Avatar n tn Has anyone had a total knee fusion before having knee replacement. I am a 31 year old female who had a total knee fusion. After a year and half of not having full use of my leg and severe hip pain due to all my weight shifting on one side because I can not bend my leg it has now caused severe pain in my hip and both legs and lower back.
Avatar n tn Thank you. My mom is walking with a crutch. She has severe hip aches especially when she sits or stands up. She said she will have a CAT scan on the 20th of August. She had physical therapists for a month at home and when she had these hip aches she stopped physical therapy and started only doing short walks once a day. How long and what kind of physical therapy activities should she be doing after the knee replacement? Thanks.

Avatar f tn My grandmother had a double knee replacement quite a few years ago, when her knees were so bad that she couldn't get around. It gave her a great new lease on life and she was able to be active again for more than 10 years, up until a couple of years before she died when she was in her mid 90s. You've got to have it done for the right reasons and you have to be very compliant with the rehab.

Avatar n tn I had a total knee replacement done over 14 weeks ago and still have quite a bit discomfort. My knee down to my ankle will swell and I get a burning sensation that will last for hours. I have been to the doctors several times and i am being told that this is normal and could last up to 1 year. I had the other knee replaced and didn't have anywhere near the pain I am having with this knee.
Avatar f tn I had a knee replacement 5 months ago and I am allergic to nickel. Now this knee needs to be taken out and replaced! Is the Oxinium knee nickel free? I am very sick from this and need help quick! This discussion is related to On-going Pain after Knee replacement surgery.
Avatar n tn A friend had his knee replaced yesterday. Last night & this morning he suffered excrusiang pain. His wife asked his physician why not give him a pain killer that can reduce his agony to discomfort. She was told that they have given him all of the pain killers that they could. My question is this, how in 2009 can we not have a drug that can make you pain free or at leat reduce the pain to uncomfortabe?

Avatar f tn I had been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in the left knee and beginning in the right knee four years ago. I was told that I was bone on bone in the left knee. Since I was only 50 years old the doctor said that I was too young for surgery. Four years later, 1 less thyroid, additional weight, I have been told I am too fat and I need to get my BMI down before they would consider.
16888441 tn?1452155657 Knee replacement can be an excellent option in many cases, but there are also some contra-indications where a knee replacement should not be the first choice. For instance, if a person is young and below 50 years of age, knee replacement can be delayed because the life of implants typically lasts between 15-20 years. Is the person too over-weight? Is the extent of damage limited to a knee section, can anything else be done such as unicompartmental knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, etc. ...
Avatar m tn Hi, Knee fusion surgery is a last resort for any knee related problem. It is a salvage procedure rather a management of knee arthritis. I am sorry to say but if you would have gone ahead with knee fusion then, doctors would not have been able to do ligament reconstruction or knee replacement surgery. The anatomy of knee or knee joint configuration would have changed after the knee fusion surgery to do any sort of surgery after that.
Avatar f tn m only 46) and having some other health issues (lupus, fibromyalgia, asthma), he would strongly suggest going with a total knee FUSION as opposed to a total knee REPLACEMENT. He said that because I am relatively young (although I don't feel young most days) and have the autimmune problems, there is an increased chance that a knee replacement would not last very long for me and would have to be done at least one more time, if not several times.
647391 tn?1275016633 Robert Lee. The right knee replacement was a disaster. The knee will not straighten or bend. All surgeries that Dr.Robert Lee completed for me was a success. At my 6 week checkup post surgery, I remember the smile on his face when I said "no problems".
Avatar f tn Blood clots are a common concern in a knee replacement, are they also a concern in a knee manipulation?
452066 tn?1400626877 At what point does an orthopedic surgeon come to a conclusion that a partial knee replacement is the only option? I had surgery for a torn meniscus on my left knee over a year and a half ago. Since then, the knee feels worse and is progressively getting worse. I have been on steroids, had injections, take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, went through PT...and even continue to exercise the knee now.
Avatar f tn This would be a difficult question to answer without the relevant clinical details. A knee replacement is not preferred in young patients as the life of a knee replacement around 10-20 years (the newer devices last longer than the older ones). Though knee replacements are usually successful and help in regaining movements around the joint conservative management is preferred due to the risk associated with the replacement surgery and a possible re-replacement surgery.
Avatar f tn Finally, depending on the findings on your xrays and physical examination, you may be a candidate for a partial knee replacement rather than a total knee replacement.
Avatar f tn I was told by one position that I could not have a knee replacement unless they did a Fulkerson because my knee was not tracking properly. I now assume he was referring to a partial knee replacement. As I've been referred to a position for total knee replacement because the Fulkerson did not completely resolve my pain and improve my mobility.
Avatar f tn I had a knee replacement a year ago and am having pain. I was curious . . . how did they know the glue was deteriorating? Did they do an MRI? I just had and MRI and have been told it could be "mild loosening, bone stress reaction, or stress response". My Dr.'s onlt response was, if it's bad enough redo the knee replacement surgery. How long ago was your replacement surgery?
