Knee pain while running

Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain while running

pain

Avatar m tn I bumped it, I think mildly, with my office chair a short while ago and the pain was very great. Some movements hurt a little, typically sideways motions. Yet running not only does not hurt I actually feel better running then other activities, including just sitting! My guess has been a bone bruise, but I am concerned about what else it might be. Is there any problem with continuing to run if it doesn't give me pain? Is there any way to tell if it is more serious than a bruise?
Avatar n tn I got my knee problem initially while running as well. It doesn't mean it happened because of what you did that day, it might have been building up for awhile. I don't know why you haven't seen an orthopedist to get an MRI and see if there's a meniscus problem, which it sounds like it might be, or to see if it's just tendinitis. Hopefully, it will just require physical therapy to rehab, but I don't think at this point it's just going to go away. Good luck.
Avatar n tn My mom is in training for a marathon, and had to quit after complaining of severe pain in her hips. She went to the doctor and after bone scans, x-rays, and the like; the doctor said it was burrcitous (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong). At first she thought it was arthritis, but it just kept getting worse. She's not allowed to run anymore.
16237877 tn?1446544835 About 2 years ago, I started running for the reason to get fit. But suddenly I happened to get knee pain whenever I ran or just walked. I thought that it was a sign of me doing something wrong when I run. I tried changing my shoes, but that didn't work. Finally, I had to go for a knee pain treatment at Physio Now Mississauga. The therapist there evaluated my knee. I was asked to wear a custom knee brace for a while. That helped a lot with pain.
Avatar f tn I have been running 3 miles a day fro 3x a week, until recently because i have been experiencing really aching pain in my knee and if i keep running it becomes really painful like i have torn something, and sometimes my knee gives way too, if i stop running and walk the pain wears off for a while, i have had an 6-8 week rest, but it still hurts when i try to bend my knee, it pulls really tight and hurts, haven`t tried running fully yet, sometimes the knee hurts really bad , it hurts in the back
1470596 tn?1286713970 I had this problem and realised thanks to my physio, that I overpronated when running. This can cause knee problems which is why I needed to buy shoes with arch support which stops the foot rolling inwards. For walking you can buy orthotic insoles but I would not recommend running with these. I use Adistar Salvations to run. A good running shop will check you for pronation before you buy. Also this might seem obvious but are you stretching before and after running.
1773330 tn?1314171331 i ve been running on threadmill for 2 weeks..i ve got a knee pain...any solution to decrease the pain?
Avatar f tn Depending on the severity of these conditions, you may have pain only while running or when you are walking as well. Please consult an orthopedic specialist and avoid running until this is diagnosed and treated. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar f tn My knee is stiff and painful today underneath the knee cap where the pes anserine tendon inserts and to the inside of the knee cap (medially). I also have pain in the middle of the back of the knee, is especially sharp if I push into it. In terms of comfort and daily activities, I am having no trouble walking except that my knee will get a little swollen (very slight) and stiff if I walk a lot.
Avatar f tn I am looking forward to continue with my running habit, but should I slow down or pause after some time while running? I mean I don't run that long. Or, are they some steps I should follow, does this happen only when you are beginner and does your body get over these injuries with time?
Avatar m tn for the last four years I have been experiencing sharp pain on the outside of my right knee starting usually after running about 3 miles. no pain when I am not running. It comes on gradually but I eventually need to stop running. The pain is located in the vicinity of the lateral meniscus and is most intense when my foot is off the ground and my leg moving forward. I have had no major injury to this knee. What is going on? is there anything I can do?
Avatar m tn ve been running with no knee pain. I run on the dirt/grass, where others run on the hard cement. Time after again they would get knee injuries. I quit running in races because I could feel the difference in the hard surface on my legs running verus the dirt/grass. If it was me, since I love running, I would stay off the hard cement. Our joints aren't made for that hard pounding.
Avatar f tn the pain is at the right side of my right knee, its situated near the fibula, not indicating that my bone is the one hurting, the pain is distinctive as it only hurts in a manner or form of a thread, the pain doesn't take up all of the right part of my knee, its just a thread shape pain that seems to extend from the femur down to the fibula.
Avatar m tn Recently I have also experienced minimal hip pain. While walking, the area along the medial side of the knee also hurts. The entire area feels like it is full of sand to touch. At times it feels like my knee is buzzing or growling and shifting - even while it is stationary. I experience many different kinds of pain in many different areas of the knee, everything from the type of pain that accompanies a bruise to pinching, burning, and stinging.
Avatar f tn I am an athlete and I play basketball. I have extreme pain in my knee and calf while running. It also hurts to bend down and then stand back up. I also have discomfort walking up and down stairs, and sometimes walking. I don't know what it is but I would really appreciate some help and answers. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I have had pain in my left knee for about 2 years, (18 year old, female). I recently went skiing and the pain flared up. Initionally I wasn't going to make an appointment at the orthopedics, but after a week the pain didn't change. Today while running up the stairs I fell and landed on my left knee, it has three small bruises (inner side) about an inch from the knee cap, although the whole area hurts, it's not all bruised... is it something I should worry about?

Avatar n tn It includes the articulation between the tibia and femur (leg and thigh) and the patella (knee cap) and femur. The most common knee problems in running relate to what is called the "patellofemoral complex". This consists of the quadriceps, knee cap and patellar tendon. What is now called patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) has also been called runner's knee, anterior knee pain, or chondromalacia of the patella.
Avatar f tn I'm 7 weeks. I work hard and most days my knee flares pain. Never had it before anyone else?
1308443 tn?1302693321 s the problem. I suggest to not do sports with a lot of running. Swimming is a good one. I heard your pain. But you can't stop walking from class to class. For a few tips, stay hydrated, stretch atleast once a day (suppose to do it twice) and keep your muscle strong.
Avatar n tn My right knee clicks when moving down stairs. I have stiffness and pain in my right hip (particularly after running, but also when I don't run). Any ideas what I can do to fix this?
Avatar m tn 1)moving furniture, 2) my Siberian husky running full speed into the side of my knee and 3) laying flooring while kneeling.
Avatar f tn Only ONE knee hurts? Which part of your knee hurts? Front, back or sides of knee cap? It only hurts WHILE you run? What is the end result when you are done? Shaking after you run is not uncommon and is usually a sign you were running on empty during your practice. It's the after affect of that. Lactic acid builds up. Do you do anything for recovery? My son's coach instructs them to drink a bottle of chocolate milk for recovery post run.
Avatar n tn After that, running and jumping has caused much pain in my knee. I went to an athletic trainer and they told me I had tendinitis and to ice and take ibuprofen. It continues to be very painful during practice. I can feel rubbing and clicking in my knee when I walk. What is wrong with my knee? Should I still be playing basketball or will it make it worse?
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been having pain mainly in my left knee above and to the left of my left knee cap. I have had X-Rays and a MRI to see if any problems can be found. The doctors said they have found nothing wrong. I went a physical therapist around April of last year during spring track. He said I didn't have enough thigh strength. I do the exercises daily he instructed and they seem to not work anymore. Right now I am running winter track.
