Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain when you straighten your leg

knee-pain

Avatar m tn I woke up last night to unbelivable pain in my knee. My leg was bent in a natural position and I woke up not being able to straighten it. It was actually the pain that woke me but I wasn't able to straighten my leg, it felt as if it was locked in place. It eventually subsided and I was able to straighten my leg, and have had a dull ache in it all day.
Avatar f tn ve been experiencing posterior knee pain, more medially than laterally. It hurts most when walking (when i straighten the leg out to take the next step with the achy leg- making it difficult to walk normally). Walking up stairs does not cause pain, nor does it hurt when i sit/rest, and actually seems to relieve the pain when bending the knee. It is not tender to touch, and i don't think it's swollen or warmer than the other knee.
18497060 tn?1465345701 When I get up from sitting down, I will get a sharp pain from the back of my knee and my leg starts to buckle. I feel a loud pop. Sometimes at night I will go to straighten my leg out and I have to straighten it out very slowly until my knee pops. I also have a crunching sound underneath my knee cap. Any insight or help would be great.
Avatar f tn My right knee hurts when it straighten sometimes. So the pain was sudden, I was standing and then suddenly I cant stand with my right leg because it was too painful, and when I try to straighten it, it was really hurt. But when I sit down or bend my leg, it wasn't hurt at all. But I still can't walk or stand because I have to straighten my leg when I walk. The pain wasn't specific in any areas, it just hurt in every parts of my knee.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I was riding a horse and my foot got caught on a panel and the horse kept going. This happened 3 days ago. It's hard to walk. I have swelling and pain on the inner side of my knee. I can bend my knee approx 45°. When I'm sitting or laying down I can straighten my leg but when I'm standing I can't seem to straighten it. My knee cap feels awkward when I try to. When I stand up from sitting i get an excruciating pain and blood rush feeling through my knee.

1748105 tn?1314473206 I have to kinda drag my leg from the hip and the inside of my big toe slides on the floor as my knee turns out. When I try to put my weight on it to step with my right leg it pulls and hurts like the musckes in the back of my calf and thigh are ripping. I haven't been able to come up with a name for this. I read about flexor spasticity and foot drop in the health pages. Could this be some combination?
Avatar f tn Can you support your full weight on that leg? If so, can you put your weight on it, then twist? If you do, what do you feel. Better: Lay on your back, have someone bend your knee 90 degrees while applying pressure from the bottom of your foot, then twist your lower leg back and forth. What do you feel? You haven't mentioned if there is any swelling or bruising, etc.
Avatar m tn When i am sitting on a chair and i straighten my left leg the pain occurs, and there must be something wrong because my right knee is fine. I also get the pain when i am lying in bed. The pain is most apparent when i lift my left knee cap, you know how you can tense or whatever and your knee cap will move up.sometimes along with the pain i get twitching in my knee, i dont know what it is that twitches, but sometimes its rapid twitching that passes quickly.
670987 tn?1284498786 m 5 weeks pregnant, so way earlier than you gals, but definately the same knee cap pain. When I have my knees bent for awhile they crack when I try to straiten them and then hurt for the rest of the day. If I wait a little and straighten them slowly they dont hurt as much but can still hurt for the rest of the day. Not hindering my sleep as of yet though.
Avatar m tn - I have no history of similar problems When I get up from a prolonged sit, my right knee often feels stiff and I notice when trying to straighten my leg, it almost feels like it wants to go back to a semi bent position. There is no pain unless I try to straighten my leg as hard as I can or if I squat right down on both legs so that they are fully bent. In other words, the pain is felt at the extremes of flexion/extension.
Avatar f tn hi there I really need some help and answers, my partner was out on his motorbike on beach when the bike slipped out from under him while he was riding and the bike fell on his inner right knee, he managed to slightly straighten his leg once, that was straight after accident so we thought it may heal itself as didn't think it was to serious, it has now been over 2weeks and he is still unable to straighten leg what so ever, and also now he is starting to get deep muscle and bone aches all ove
Avatar n tn I have had the same thing in my left leg - it's been about 2 weeks now for me. Started with some pain behind my knee, I couldn't straighten my leg all the way. Then the pain kind of moved down into my calf, affected my thigh a little, then behind my knee -- it's been on and off for 2 weeks. I tried icing it which kind of helped - tried wearing a knee brace, sort of helped.
Avatar f tn Pains on inside of knee and under knee cap front, a slightly diff pain behind the knee and random sharp shooting pains on top of knee. Any suggestions as to what could be wrong? I can wiggle toes but not lift heel at all. Sorry for essay and thank you.
Avatar n tn Most pain is across the top of the knee cap and along the interior side of my knee. The pain is present while walking, climbing stairs and when I first stand after sitting for a long period of time. Additionally, if I stand for too long, my knee is extremely sore and stiff. The worst pain is that which wakes my in the middle of the night at least 1-2 times per week.
Avatar m tn With that particular injury, the popping sound is literally the torn component getting expelled from the joint when you straighten your leg. I have this particular problem myself due to a re-injury to a surgical repair. Only an orthopedist can diagnose your particular problem, but that's what it sounds like to me.
Avatar f tn I have to do something as my quality of life is suffering very much. I can bend my knee, but cannot straighten my leg. I went to physical therapy 3 times a week for 10 weeks and see no improvement. Thank Goodness I have not had to deal with infection, but the chronic pain is becoming worse.
Avatar n tn when i sit on the floor i with my knees w or crosslegged i get a pain to my left knee on the right side that wont leave like a cramp until i straighten my leg then i hear a popping sound *previously 3 years ago got a tcl tear from falling from my motorcycle.
Avatar m tn When I straighten out my leg and press against the back of my knee I feel a node.....
Avatar m tn When I told him that I felt like I had a sprained ankle toward the top of the foot and shin pain , He said it is probably is sprained slight because of the manipulation they did to straighten my leg. Have you ever heard this before ? Is it common? I just hope the pain eases up because quite frankly the pain is worse then before the TKR. Is it possible that he accidently nicked a nerve running from the knee to the top of the foot? If so does that heal on its own.?
Avatar f tn It feels like my thigh area kind of tingles a bit. When I straighten my leg it also pops once in a while but not every time. When I walk up and down the stairs I don't feel any pain. It seems the pain gets worse in my leg around night time. During the day my knee does not really bother me at all. Last night when I was laying in bed the pain seemed to be throbbing around my knee area. I took two advils and i was able to fall asleep. Should I really be concerned or will it go away?
Avatar n tn It could be a meniscus tear but since your pain is over the joint and hurts when you have rotation to your lower leg, it could possibly be your ACL. Is there swelling to your knee?
604489 tn?1220023514 I have posed this question in another forum regarding arthritis, but I'm not sure my issue is caused by that particular disease. For the past week, I have had excruciating pain in the center of my knee that radiates to the outside of my thigh. This pain is on the left side of my body. I have noticed some puffiness around the knee and below it. There is no warmth in the knee or on my thigh. I've popped OTC painkillers like Advil and Aleve to no avail.
Avatar f tn Hey all, I know it's been a while, I decided to take time off from my health even though my health hasn't exactly agreed to take a break from me! ;) I am writing tonight because I have been experience g a rather uncomfortable problem that became severe last night. Let's just say...my whole ignore it and it will go away tactic didn't work.
Avatar m tn It is fine if the knee is at rest or folded, but everytime I try to straighten my leg or walk, I feel the pain in the knee. While walking if I keep my knee bent a little, the pain lessens. I remember no external injury or any other strain on my legs. There is no outside pain or swelling. Also, my knee feels stiff, like the locked knuckles which you bend and crackle to make it normal. I have tried some common medicines but none did a thing. [Note: I am a male of 20 years.
Avatar f tn When I straighten my leg it locks on me just like it did before the surgery, why? My knee continues to have a fever, I ice it throughout the day to keep the swelling down, its funny though that my knee feels like a 20lb ball but to look at it it doesn't look like it. I do not, DO NOT feel that I have any stability in my knee at all, I am very fearful of falling all the time.
