Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain when using elliptical

knee-pain

1470596 tn?1286713970 I had this problem and realised thanks to my physio, that I overpronated when running. This can cause knee problems which is why I needed to buy shoes with arch support which stops the foot rolling inwards. For walking you can buy orthotic insoles but I would not recommend running with these. I use Adistar Salvations to run. A good running shop will check you for pronation before you buy. Also this might seem obvious but are you stretching before and after running.
Avatar m tn Hello, I hope you can help me. I find that whenever I use my home elliptical machine that I develop a hard bulge on my right leg. The bulge is located just above and to the left of my patella. It never hurts and is less pronounced after an hour or so. This reaction does not happen when using a treadmill and I own a very good quality Precor elliptical machine. I'm not sure why this happens and if it is something I need to have checked out. I am a 55 y.o. man, 6' 250lbs.
Avatar n tn I suggest the elliptical and stationary bike. The pounding isn't going to be good for the knees! You'll end up needing knee replacement.
Avatar f tn I've started working out with a personal trainer 2 times a week in preparation for an upcoming knee surgery. I also started doing some cardio on my own. I usually work on the regular stationary bikes and arm bikes which I have know problems with. I decided to move to the elliptical Saturday. Here's my problem. I would start and get my heart to about 135 which is close to the lower end of my fat burning zone.
Avatar m tn I wanted to caution you about using pain as a diagnostic as to location as referred pain may be present, especially in an area of prior injury. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I would love to walk outside but I have terrible shin splints from the early eighties high impact aerobics, plus a bad left knee. So, I have to do the elliptical or a bike....I know that I would truly get into running, but I just can't do it. And the elliptical gets VERY BORING!!! Thanks for the pep talk!!! I am going to hang in there!
280369 tn?1316702041 i have been going to gym also and using the treadmill and elliptical machine my obgyn was fine with it just as long as i dont overdue it. I enjoy the elliptical more due a knee injury from a few years ago but i also do alot of swim areobics and such but just run the quesion by the midwife or dr .
Avatar f tn Check your alignment while on the machine, I actually stressed out my knee on an elliptical and had had the same toe numbing problem before it happened. Make sure to be mindful of leaning more to one side or the other. Keeping your core strong will help also, it is not normal for you to feel numbness in your toes.
Avatar n tn s and many Xrays and two different doctors to come to this conclusion. I am just hoping that the stabbing pain I feel in my knee when I walk will eventually go away.
Avatar n tn I have been doing the elliptical a lot for the past 2 months and the past few days my quadriceps and shins have been killing me. My quads are extremely tight. I went for a massge today and it still aches. Could this be due to my use of the elliptical for lengthy periods of time at a high intensity? My feet also turn in when I walk and I have been wearing flip flops all the time lately so Im thinking that could be it as well. Any thoughts/help?
Avatar f tn I had knee arthroscopy 6 weeks ago to smooth the cartilage on the back of the patella, remove scar tissue, and correct a structural defect in a groove at the bottom of the femur that helps the kneecap track properly (needed to widen it). I had a lot of swelling over the first 4 weeks. This has finally subsided for the most part but I am struggling to get the full flexion back. I am still only at 105 degrees despite physio, biking, and the elliptical trainer.
Avatar n tn Is it normal to have pain while walking around the vaginal section. Sorry for tmi. Also I been having a lot of backache...

Avatar m tn About a month ago I was using a elliptical and all that day I had a pain in the groin. But it went a away the next day. Then about 3 weeks ago the day after a bike and treadmill workout I began to get a dull pain in my left testicle. It seems to be worse when sitting and seems to improve as the day goes on. I also feel a light discomfort in the left testicle when I take a deep breath. I am on antibiotics for 3 days now and have rested it no change so far.

Avatar f tn I knew I was pregnant this time round from day one of conception because when I took a show the next day I had ligament pain. Only ever get it while pregnant.
533063 tn?1262366101 The days that I use the recumbent bike and then do my pilates are pain free. The days that I use the elliptical is another matter. While I am on the machine, there is no problem, but when I get to pilates, my scar feels as though it's on fire. It is intermittent and will go away after about 20 minutes, but is very uncomfortable. So I am wondering, is this something that I should worry about? Should I stop using the elliptical?
1587585 tn?1309432260 I can straighten my leg all the way (but its sore) When I bend my knee back it really hurts. The pain seems to be coming from behind my knee. What do you think is causing the pain?
Avatar m tn I have not been able to sleep or sit for more than 1 hr before intense pain forces me to massage around the knee, front and back. When this happens the knee feels like stone and I am unable to lift it without using my hands. It then takes me up to a minute before my knee will allow me to walk without feeling that the spongy feeling and pain will cause it to give out. I have been going to physio 3 X a week for 3 and one half months.
Avatar f tn a few weeks ago I woke up when I rolled over onto my hip because the pain was so severe. I spent the next few days limping and barely able to walk, although sometimes my hip just hurt/pulled but I could stand and walk upright. After four days, I went to the doctor. She said it was probably a pull in my IT band...rest and ice and ibuprofen every 4 hours is what she recommended...
Avatar f tn I need advice on what to do about the pain in my knee. I got into a small accident while biking last weekend. While biking along the main stretch of town, I collided with the side of a pick-up truck backing out between two buildings. He couldn't see me and I didn't see him until it was too late. Neither one of us was going very fast and there wasn't even any damage to my clothes from where I hit the pavement, so I figured the bumps and bruises were going to be the end of it.
1348306 tn?1279836224 I had that with my dd, I took potassium supplements before bed and they went away, Also point your toes towards your knee and it will relieve the pain. eat lots of bananas!
579258 tn?1250649343 On the sixth run cycle I started to have some pain in the back of my knee...so decided to listen to my body and that was the last run cycle. Finished off the rest of the 4.25 miles by walking at 3.7 mph to try to make up for it a bit. Cool down walk for 5 minutes after that at 2.5 mph again for 5 minutes, 10 minutes of general stretching, and 3 of the planks described in today's post at 30-second holds each. Whew! I feel good though....except that knee.
Avatar f tn t done anything (knowingly) to injure it. The pain is below my knee cap where it meets the shin bone. It only hurts when in motion...walking or using stairs, or anytime I have my weight on it. I have to limp because the pain hurts so much. Some days are worse than others; some times there is very little pain. When sitting down there is no pain, and I can move my leg around with no pain while sitting. My knee pops occasionally but nothing new.
Avatar f tn t show up when I poke or touch my knee, I can duplicate the pain when my knee is slightly bent and I press below the knee cap and rub to the painward side while still pressing. I almost thought it was a chipped bone at first, but now (because of the above) I think it is a collection of fluid and the pain is from the fluid trying to migrate to an area of muscle or tissue that doesn't want to separate. Some of you may be aware of how powerful hydraulic pressure can be.
Avatar f tn However, I do notice when I exercise at a low intensity on the elliptical, my knee feels better for a while. When I rest my knee, it gets stiff and painful. I'm surprised my doctor doesn't want to do an MRI. And when I asked for a referral to an orthopedician, my doctor said no because a specialist would just send me to physical therapy. I'm feeling let down by my doctor and am thinking I need a second opinion (if my HMO allows it). Thanks again for the information!
Avatar f tn Older woman here, developed knee pain 2 months ago. It thankfully went away, but then about a week ago started hurting again, this time in different location, just to the left and medial of my knee cap. Every step is excruciating, only way to describe it. Guess I have meniscus tear? But has anyone experienced this type of horrible pain with Every Step? If so did you find a remedy?
