Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain when resting

knee-pain

Avatar m tn Pain, swelling, popping sound in the knee could be due to arthritis, as it is the most common cause of pain in the knee after recurrent injuries to the knee. Burning, tingling and radiation of the pain to the hip and ankle relates to compression of nerve. I would suggest that you visit a orthopedician and get x-ray and MRI of the knee to confirm with the diagnosis. All the best.
Avatar m tn You may like to get this evaluated by your primary care physician or an orthopedician; or alternatively you may try resting the knee for 1-2 weeks and some tylenol if there is pain. If this does not tend to improve you may consider a medical evaluation. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have knee pain in my right knee when I kneel down on it.About a year ago the same knee for some reason unknown to me got very swollen & had to use crutches for about a week. Anyway when I kneel down it is like kneeling on a tack. Then it has a sensation of a rug burn to the touch. After about five times of this happening I looked more closely. On the right lower outer edge of knee cap it gets a swell pocket. It does not swell up the entire knee just this oval like shaped pocket.
Avatar f tn But then up and pain subsided. Possibly knee cap moved back in place. Now then in morning knee lil swollen, pain when walking, no bending or squatting which would lead my proffessional opinion to be you over streched tendons, possibly a slight tear. Use an ice pack for 2 days twice a day 30 mins each. No more weights till Friday. If everything returns to normal leave the squats out for an additional week. However by this Friday if knee is still the same, go see family doctor.
Avatar f tn I would suggest resting the knee till the pain and swelling settle. Ice-packs and NSAIDS may also be helpful for relief. After that I would advice seeing a physiotherapist for exercises that would strengthen you hamstrings. You may also consult with your doctor if you would be required to wear a knee brace. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn The knee is causing pain on movement; I use movelat gel; now the pain is severe at times. The knee clicks when walking.
Avatar f tn I am unable to kneel as it feels like a massive burst of pain behind the knee into my calf muscle as if i have severly sprained it. When standing, if i transfer any weight onto my right leg, i get pain from the back of the knee right down my calf. It is a constant pain when any weight is bearing on it but if i kneel or bend the leg with weight on it, the pain is like a muscle pull and extremely painful. When walking there is no pain at all.
Avatar f tn Theres very little swelling but when I try and bend my knee there lots of pain to the out side... I have it resting with ice on it now and I doesn't hurt just sitting there.. The same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago and I thought it had got better... This time is much worse tho.. Last time I could walk with it...
Avatar m tn Respected Madam, There is no pain in my knee and also i didn't done excessive exercise. I took rest for 6 days without any exercise and swelling was gone. Again after that i started very light exercise and then swelling is increased but it is not that much as was before(It is seen only during straight leg). Also when i rest my foot on the floor gently with the help of crutches then also i do not feel any pain.
Avatar f tn My office chair rolled out from under me as I sat this morning and I ended up on the floor. I only fell on my rear but my left knee was flexed to it's max. You need to know I have arthritis in both knees and no cartilage left under knee caps. My knee instantly was hurting but mostly when trying to walk normal. I can walk stiff legged and it doesn't hurt too bad but flex the knee and it has sharp pain like i have walking up and down stairs because of the knee caps.
Avatar n tn m now 32). The pain started below my knee, and is now accompanied with pain shooting down my shin. It also now feels as if something from the top of my knee is pulling as well. I am hurting, and I don't know what else to do. I am also taking Naperson (sp?), which is not helping. I can't take anything more than that, because pain meds knock me on my butt & I don't want that. Please help with other suggestions while I await my doctors appointment.
Avatar n tn Hello, About 6 months ago I started to do some running and after the first month or so started getting pain above my knee, so I stopped. Since then the pain hasn't gone away and I'm getting desperate now as nothing seems to work. The pain is at its worst when going down stairs, steep hills, or when I put weight on it such as in a lunge or squat. It's had periods of getting better then when I think I'm going to be pain free it always gets worse.
604489 tn?1220023514 For the past week, I have had excruciating pain in the center of my knee that radiates to the outside of my thigh. This pain is on the left side of my body. I have noticed some puffiness around the knee and below it. There is no warmth in the knee or on my thigh. I've popped OTC painkillers like Advil and Aleve to no avail. I can't tolerate any pressure on that side, including when lying down. When sleeping, I have to straighten my left leg out flat.
Avatar m tn 30, with my gf and my knee got super tight and after another step a SHARP pain shot through it and I nearly fell. We had only gone about 4 miles and had warmed up properly and stretched, the weather was warm so I wasn't cold or tight when it happened. I have seen my medical department and they suspected ITB or Meniscus problems. However after about 2 months of aggressive icing, stretching, and physical therapy I can now run LESS and less before the pain comes back.
Avatar f tn It doesn’t pop when I am bearing weight on it and lock it. When I have it resting in front of me and I press on the kneecap, it seems to “rock” back and forth, while popping. The other knee does not pop and seems much more secure. The pops don’t really hurt, but it is uncomfortable. I know I have been favoring it more since it has been injured, so could that be the cause of some of the pops and pain? Will it make a difference if I see a doctor now or later, at this point?
Avatar f tn They took x-rays of the knee, came out negative. I was sent home on sitting and resting, the next day I had bruise on the back of my knee, big as hamburger bun. As the days go by my knee got worse, it be came stiffer, my knee would lock, and when i try to straighten it it would make click sound, I was thaking Physical therapy, one day during therapy session, my calve muscle got very stiff and tight, that i was in so much pain, I was crying. I couldnt move at all.
487070 tn?1313665952 having pain behind both knees I asumed I might be getting varacose veins. My primary says no, but suspects I have Artritis in both knees. X-Ray tomorrow, awaiting insurance pre-cert for MRI. Well, since yesterday, the left knee has been having constant sharp, shooting, extremely painful "stab" like feelings now come from the front. Walking, sitting ,doesn't matter.
Avatar m tn Soreness is natural for skiers, as the intense resistance affecting the muscles of the arms and legs as you down the mountain can create small tears in the muscle tissue, resulting in pain and sometimes noticeable inflammation. When pain from these tears develops 12 to 24 hours after skiing, this is mostly likely delayed-onset muscle soreness,. As the muscle tissue has a chance to heal and rebuild, the pain will subside.
Avatar m tn Meanwhile I would suggest resting the knee and limiting weight bearing. If the pain is more than mild, Tylenol may be helpful for pain relief. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have what seems an odd leg pain--mostly in my right lower leg. It hurts most when I am resting and is just a constant pain. I noticed that when I mow the lawn, there is no pain at all. But, when I do my Nordic Track exercise in the morning, the pain increases, and by 30 minutes is very painful. Of course, we all know the story about the man who said, "Doc, it hurts when I do this." The doc says, "Well don't do it, then.
Avatar m tn ve looked all round the web for anyone displaying similar symptoms as me, but to no avail. When I am sat down and resting, I get hardly any pain at all (probably due to the amount of ibuprofen I've been taking), but when I stand up for any amount of time the pain grows to the point of being unbearable. It is a little painful the start walking anywhere and if I have to stop and wait while stood, ie picking up the kids from school, again the pain grows.
