Avatar m tn Pain at the joint line is the result of a collateral ligament or meniscus problem (or both) until proven otherwise. Anterior knee pain can also be due to Patello-femoral syndrome. When did his pain begin, what was he doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Does he experience any grinding, locking, catching, or giving way of the knee? Are there any positions that make his knee more or less comfortable? Has he tried anything to help his pain and, if yes, has that been successful?

Avatar m tn I have been having knee pain for quite some time now. Initially was taking it light, but recently got the same checked and MRI was performed. Dr.'s conclusion are as follow: 1. Grade 2C tear of medial meniscus. 2. Moderate to severe joint effusion distending the suprapatellar bursa with underlying osteoarthritic changes at knee. 3. Bone marrow edema is noted at the medial tibial condyle. Yet to meet my docter in two days.
Avatar m tn I had surgery for a meniscus tear 6 years ago.Now the same pain and symptoms are back again. What are the chances of it being another tear?
Avatar f tn You would need surgery as meniscus are very important ligaments in the knee joint and spontaneous healing is difficult. Take care!
Avatar f tn t walk up or down stairs or hills without more pain. There is also pain when I inadvertently twist my knee (if I turn while walking) or if I try to get up from a sitting position by placing most of my weight on that leg. My confusion lies in the usual symptoms of meniscal injuries - I've had no swelling, my knee doesn't lock completely. Is this a meniscal tear? Could it be that an old injury is starting to cause this years later?
Avatar n tn Hello I'm 17 years old and any help is greatly appreciated I was at this party about 7 months ago and i had too much to drink and fell on my knee Since I have been unable to apply pressure to my left knee while bending - without feeling pain - Bending my knee isn't a problem as long as i don't put my weight on it - The pain i'm feeling is just underneath the knee cap.
Avatar f tn I used to play a lot of soccer and have not in years, but I remember having knee and ankle pain quite often, enough so that I frequently wore knee braces and wrapped both ankles. I now play golf, and after playing one day I noticed some knee pain. There was no specific incident or sudden onset of pain - it just gradually appeared. I also started hearing more popping noises than usual, but now it hurt and I felt movement.
Avatar m tn 30, with my gf and my knee got super tight and after another step a SHARP pain shot through it and I nearly fell. We had only gone about 4 miles and had warmed up properly and stretched, the weather was warm so I wasn't cold or tight when it happened. I have seen my medical department and they suspected ITB or Meniscus problems. However after about 2 months of aggressive icing, stretching, and physical therapy I can now run LESS and less before the pain comes back.
Avatar f tn The MCL is intact. LATERAL COMPARTMENT: Allowing for motion artifact, there is fraying to the lateral meniscal posterior horn free edge, and the posterior root is diminutive. Superficial chondral fibrillation is present at the posterior meniscal surface of the tibial plateau without subchondral remodeling. Intact lateral collateral ligament complex and structures of the posterolateral corner. INTERCONDYLAR NOTCH: The anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are intact.
Avatar f tn Hello Bon, Welcome to the Pain Mangement forum. I am glad that you have found us. However I am sorry to heat about your knee pain. "Bad knees" run in my family and I understand how painful and debilitating knee pain can be. Has cortisone been effective for you in the past? If it has not been they usually won't repeat them. As Sandee said the general rule is 3 in a year but I have know physicians that will perform 4.
Avatar f tn Now, it still hurts to walk for a long time on it and sometimes while sitting I have an aching pain. The main area of the pain is on the inner part of my left knee. If anyone knows of what could be wrong or what could help, I would grately appreciate it.
Avatar n tn I know how frustrating knee pain can be. However my meniscus is healthy and your sounds like it may not be. The occasional "pop" you feel or hear could be your meniscus. Our knee is the largest joint in our body. Meniscal tears are among the most common knee injuries or can just thin and wear out as we age. They are two wedge-shaped pieces of cartilage that are located between your thighbone and shinbone. They act as shock absorbers and help stabilize and cushion the joint.
Avatar m tn An individual suffering from spondylolisthesis will typically experience generalized pain in the lower back, along with intermittent shocks of shooting pain beginning in the buttock traveling downward into the back of the thigh and/or lower leg. Sciatica that extends below the knee and may be felt in the feet. Sometimes symptoms include tingling and numbness. Sitting and trying to stand up may be painful and difficult.
Avatar n tn Since it has been two weeks and the swelling and pain is still there, it is quite possible that there is a ligament tear or meniscus tear involved. Since you have pain while bending the knee and not during straightening this suggests a meniscus injury. I would advise you to schedule an appointment with a orthopedic specialist as soon as possible. Meanwhile take rest, continue with the ice packs and take OTC pain killers for pain and swelling.
Avatar f tn Meniscus repair is recommended for tears that occur in the vascular region (red zone or red-white zone), are longer than 1 cm, involve greater than 50% of meniscal thickness, and are unstable to arthroscopic probing. A stable knee is important for successful meniscus repair and healing. Thus, associated ligamentous injuries must be addressed. The most commonly associated ligamentous disruption is complete tear of the ACL, which must be reconstructed to prevent recurrent meniscal tears.
Avatar n tn s no blood in the damaged part of my meniscus, why do I swell after leg strengthening exercises. I have pain in the knee when twisting the joint, even when simply crossing my injured leg on the other. However, I can run pain free as long get a secure foot plant and I don't twist the knee. Is this consistent with a simple Meniscus tear? The joint itself doesn't seem "right". As though the parts aren't quite fitting together properly.
553692 tn?1215277731 I have been on crutches and ibuprofen 800 for the last month, my pain is increasing in my knee, im becoming intolerant to any weight bearing on my knee at all, the pain is becoming severe. It feels really unstable. Thanks again!!
Avatar m tn Minor joint effusion Conclusion Tear posterior horn medial meniscus. Remaining internal structures of the knee appear grossly intact. Knee causes lots of pain and discomfort and some nice noises. What are the chances of this needing surgery?
Avatar f tn Knee braces can provide support, stability, and pain relief for various knee issues, including meniscus tears. By wearing a knee brace, you can alleviate some of the stress on your knee and promote healing.
Avatar f tn Surgical repair for torn meniscus of L' Knee. 3 months post-op it buckled, caused tear during fall to R' Knee and meniscus was surgically repaired but has also failed, although the surgeon refuses to order an MRI to "prove" this latest injury. Pain is an issue as I am allergic to all pain meds ordered to date and take nothing for the pain levels of 9-10. Before injury both knees were healthy, minimal arthritic changes on MRI's in spite of age 58 and obesity.
