Knee pain running outside of knee

Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain running outside of knee

knee

I like running but lately I can't because I have a sharp pain on the outside of my right knee. It is really frustrating because I had a knee scope down about 6 months ago and I kept going back and telling the doctor that I had the pain plus I have popping in that knee every since the surgery. I feel like he was not listening to me so i stopped going back. I am really tired of having to pay for 2 surgeries in order to get something done right.
I have been having pain in my left knee. On the outside and lower part of it. It doesn't hurt when I do activities (running, walking, lifting). But when I sit still or lay down it starts to hurt. Also I have boot camp in 2 days. Should I postpone leaving? What can I do for this to help? Or can I run through the pain.
Another possibility is that you have mildly damaged the nerve that runs on the outside of the knee. If you pain or trouble everting your ankle, this might be the problem. This occurs when too much pressure has been put on the outside of the knee. If this is the case, with time this problem should go away, if the reason for the compression is resolved (more padding or shifting weight frequently).
Now when I'm on the go, I get severe pain in the knee joint area, that stretches from the top of my knee cap and extends down the outside of my knee, it feels like someone kicked me in the back of the leg, and my knee doesn't want to swing/move.
Okay so I'm 22 years old and have been suffering with sever knee pain for a few years now. Arthritis runs in my family and my grandma has had both her knees replaced twice and my mother is only 43 and has her knees replaced already. They both have osteoarthritis and my father has rheumatoid arthritis.
I twisted my knee and when it happen I heard and felt a pop on the inside of my knee. Also, now when I walk, I have pain and crackling on the outside, under the knee. When I am walking and I have to turn or piviot, I get a pain that runs the inside of my knee. And now I can just be standing there and my knee feels like it is really loose and feels like I hyperextended in, the knee pushes back. How ling should I wait to go to the doctor or should I continue to try and heal it myself.
I cannot feel any abnormalities on the outside. The pain is on top of the knee. Even pushing on a certain area it is is sensitive. What do you think?
I have been having problems with knee pain. The pain is in my right knee but only on the outside and towards the back of the knee. I do not recall any trauma/injury. I have done heat and ibuprofen but those dont seem to help alot. I have been experiencing this pain for a few weeks, with a short span where things seemed to be getting better. I am 29 years old and rheumatoid arthritis runs in my family. Any ideas of what could be going on? The side of my knee feels "tight".
Stopped running due to sharp pain on the inside below my knee. Started walking instead. Now 5 years later knee pain again. Went to an Ortho for exam and xrays. Nothing showed. The Dr wanted to do a MRI but my schedule did not allow at the time. Now 2 months later the pain begins if I walk a few blocks. The pain seems to be all around the joint and builds the longer I walk. Yesterday after a short walk the pain was enough to make me sit down.
The pain will come with walking, sometimes very quickly and sometimes not much at all. When the pain comes, I have a swelling on the outside of the knee joint about the size of half a golf ball. When I rest the swelling and pain go away within 10 or 20 minutes. This doesn't sound like arthritis to me. A two-fold question, would these symptoms be consistent with AO? Or do these symptoms sound more like damage to the meniscus? Also...
When I kneel on my right knee I feel an extremely sharp pain inside of my knee, almost as if I have a piece of glass jabbing me. I do experience some discomfort while walking or sitting and especially while running. I do have flat feet and I also experience pain in my hips, What could be wrong?

The discoid meniscus can cause problems, usually a popping sensation with pain over the outside part of the knee joint. If there is a popping sensation, then conservative treatment consisting of exercises and stretching can be performed. If these treatments do not relieve the symptoms, arthroscopic surgery on the discoid meniscus would be helpful. Best.
I have had some pain in my knees lately; usually one knee will hurt for a few days and then the other knee will hurt for a few days. I am a runner but my knees usually don't hurt while running; if they do though, it is usually a feeling like maybe a twisted knee, and I kinda just 'run through it'. Rather, it usually hurts the most when I bend down for a minute to pick something up off the floor and thereby put weight on a particular knee that is slightly bent.
adrenaline and sheer enthusiasm enabled me to complete the game but when i'd finished my left knee on the outside was extremely painful and swollen. i used ice (and beer) that nite and because it was the end of the season rested for about two months. when i started back training, the same left knee in the same place, outside left, was still sore. Stupidly i continued to play and play and play. now months later the injury has cleared up but i now have pain in both my knees at the front.
The outside of my left knee (the left side) clicks whenever I'm bearing weight on it and I bend it more than about 45 degrees. When I touch it, what feels like a bone just above and to the left of the kneecap pops out a little bit. My right knee (which is fine) does something similar but much more subtle and I can't feel it unless I'm actually touching it. I'm not really experiencing pain, but whenever a do a lot of exercise my left knee gets a bit sore or more sore than my right.
just inside and slightly low to the kneecap. the outside of the knee feels fine. when i squat the knee bends stiffly, feeling very tight - almost swollenlike. there's no pain per se, merely a stiffness that goes away(sort of) as i walk. i can do the exercise bike no problem....i can even run on a treadmill, but i don't do it as much as before. the knee no longer "unlocks" like it did in the beginning, but it's still slightly stiff and sometimes feels out-of-sync.
So 2 days ago after a 30 minute run/walk on the treadmill, I noticed a bump on my left knee (the run went fine, with no accidents, just happen to notice my knee). The bump is on the outside and almost below the knee. There is absolutely no pain, or discomfort, and I can run and walk fine with no limp. The bump is almost like a bone or a ligament, is hard in texture and does not give way when felt. Although now that I am aware of the bump, I can almost feel it?!

I have recently noticed my knees feel cold. I run as excercise but usually only 3 time a week for 2 miles. The cold knees don't bother me but I was curious.
I feel an intense pain and have trouble standing up. Literally 3 minutes later, my knee is as good as new. No pain or swelling. I’ve had this injury for several months with no improvement. I can say that I'm a little overweight (96Kg 1.
But recently I started having pain and stiffness in it when I run and do games. The pain is on the left knee outside. I think I made it worse this week by playing in the pool. Now it hurts walking up and down the stairs and I can't kneel on it. It also hurts when I squat down. I feel like I can't bend it as far back as my other leg. The knee is not tender to the touch. No swelling. I was wondering if this sounds like simple tendonitis or something more serious.
At some point in the run, I felt a few little twinges of pain in my left knee, but nothing too painful. After finishing, my knee progressively got more and more sore and swollen to the point that I was walking with a pronounced limp and especially struggling to go up and down stairs. The pain was bad for a few days, but it gradually improved and the swelling went down. However, I continued to have mild pain that becomes more pronounced when I'm going upstairs.
So I do not know if it happened while I was standing in medians, sidewalks, running to hand cars a flyer or did it happen with my SLLLOOOOWW run?? My husband says I hyperextended it- ? but the PAIN is right behind my right knee, that tendon. i guess is what that is, well it feels as if its on fire..and just to the Right of my knee cap, I take my thumb and gently press in and the pain is severe!! My knee is Swollen I have been doing the 20 minute of ice then 20 minutes of heat......
It has had extensive physical tests and on the third day in i hurt my knee. The pain was sharp and intense the day i hurt it on the outside of my knee. My knee never buckled or twisted or popped to indicate something bad happened. I was just walking up stairs after a short jog about 100m and my knee began to lock up and have intense pain that day. I fought through the pain that day and made it to the next day of training.
A few minutes ago, I laid on my left side and proceeded to bend my right knee and the clicking and popping was very audible and painful. I know that swelling and pain accompanies osteoarthritis, but the doctor said that it was mild and that I can continue to exercise (Cycling). It does not matter if I am standing, sitting, walking, or lying down, I am in pain constantly for the last week. I am wondering if I have re-injured my knee or is this how mild osteoarthritis feels?
Getting up after a nights sleep it's fine. 7. Pain seems to be in back of knee and on left outside of knee. 8. Have noticed little swelling and bruising. Just a bit but nothing huge. I went to my chiro and he claims there is bone out of place below my knee that he readjusts. Its hard to know if it helps because when he adjusts it isn't hurting. I think there has to be more than that though because bending close to 45 degree is so painful. Any suggestions?
I think it would be a very good idea to get this checked out with your PCP or pain management doctor. I know my pain clinic also treats knee and limb pain. Perhaps the doctor will order a MRI of the knee. Whatever the case, I hope you are okay and recover quickly from this. I have injured my knee on the ice in the past, but it took me building up my muscles before it stopped causing me trouble. My knee would either lock up or give completely out. Good luck.
I had total knee replacement surgery 10 weeks ago and am still experiencing significant knee pain, consisting of stiffness and alot of pain in the knee. The pain wakes me up at night. I am going to Physical Therapy 3 times a week and I still do alot of therapy myself at home. I walk, and try to go about my daily routine, but the pain is still there,, some days worse than others. I also had a three disc fusion done in January,, 2007.
