Knee pain running outside of knee

Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain running outside of knee

knee

I like running but lately I can't because I have a sharp pain on the outside of my right knee. It is really frustrating because I had a knee scope down about 6 months ago and I kept going back and telling the doctor that I had the pain plus I have popping in that knee every since the surgery. I feel like he was not listening to me so i stopped going back. I am really tired of having to pay for 2 surgeries in order to get something done right.
If the pain comes on bending the knee as in walking step or running downhill or down a flight of stairs, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome or runners knee. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor.
Now when I'm on the go, I get severe pain in the knee joint area, that stretches from the top of my knee cap and extends down the outside of my knee, it feels like someone kicked me in the back of the leg, and my knee doesn't want to swing/move.
The complexity of the design of the knee joint and the fact that it is an active weight-bearing joint are factors in making the knee one of the most commonly injured joints. Knee pain can occur due to arthritis, bursitis, dislocation, baker’s cyst etc. As you mentioned that rheumatoid arthritis is running in your family, it would be better to get checked for the same. Also an X-ray would help in making diagnosis.
I can walk and run on it fine, and have not experienced any swelling or other problems. I cannot feel any abnormalities on the outside. The pain is on top of the knee. Even pushing on a certain area it is is sensitive. What do you think?
I damaged my medial ligaments(slight) 4 to 5 months ago felt fine after a couple of weeks but have just recently been experiencing a severe sharp pain mainly i would say towards the outside and in the back of my right knee but only when i bring my heal to my bum ( no pain at all until it nearly at it fullest ). Not really experienced any other pain ect on the odd occasion knee felt like giving way when fully locked out . I have no problem running gym ect .
Stopped running due to sharp pain on the inside below my knee. Started walking instead. Now 5 years later knee pain again. Went to an Ortho for exam and xrays. Nothing showed. The Dr wanted to do a MRI but my schedule did not allow at the time. Now 2 months later the pain begins if I walk a few blocks. The pain seems to be all around the joint and builds the longer I walk. Yesterday after a short walk the pain was enough to make me sit down.
The discoid meniscus can cause problems, usually a popping sensation with pain over the outside part of the knee joint. If there is a popping sensation, then conservative treatment consisting of exercises and stretching can be performed. If these treatments do not relieve the symptoms, arthroscopic surgery on the discoid meniscus would be helpful. Best.
I have been having pain in my left knee. On the outside and lower part of it. It doesn't hurt when I do activities (running, walking, lifting). But when I sit still or lay down it starts to hurt. Also I have boot camp in 2 days. Should I postpone leaving? What can I do for this to help? Or can I run through the pain.
band injured that makes the little muscle on the outside of the knee hurt, but I am certain that this is a different injury than either of those. The only time I have twisted my knee was about seven years ago. I should mention that I haven't been able to squat down or bend my knees very far since I was a teenager, without hurting my knees (I played catcher for years in little league), but I am not sure if this injury is related to that or not.
The outside of my left knee (the left side) clicks whenever I'm bearing weight on it and I bend it more than about 45 degrees. When I touch it, what feels like a bone just above and to the left of the kneecap pops out a little bit. My right knee (which is fine) does something similar but much more subtle and I can't feel it unless I'm actually touching it. I'm not really experiencing pain, but whenever a do a lot of exercise my left knee gets a bit sore or more sore than my right.
just inside and slightly low to the kneecap. the outside of the knee feels fine. when i squat the knee bends stiffly, feeling very tight - almost swollenlike. there's no pain per se, merely a stiffness that goes away(sort of) as i walk. i can do the exercise bike no problem....i can even run on a treadmill, but i don't do it as much as before. the knee no longer "unlocks" like it did in the beginning, but it's still slightly stiff and sometimes feels out-of-sync.

Pain on kneeling with a burning sensation afterword is commonly seen in the inflammation of the bursa of the knee called bursitis. A bursa is a small sac of fluid. It cushions the outside of knee joint so that tendons and ligaments glide smoothly over the joint. The flat foot could be causing pain while walking etc.
So 2 days ago after a 30 minute run/walk on the treadmill, I noticed a bump on my left knee (the run went fine, with no accidents, just happen to notice my knee). The bump is on the outside and almost below the knee. There is absolutely no pain, or discomfort, and I can run and walk fine with no limp. The bump is almost like a bone or a ligament, is hard in texture and does not give way when felt. Although now that I am aware of the bump, I can almost feel it?!
Getting up after a nights sleep it's fine. 7. Pain seems to be in back of knee and on left outside of knee. 8. Have noticed little swelling and bruising. Just a bit but nothing huge. I went to my chiro and he claims there is bone out of place below my knee that he readjusts. Its hard to know if it helps because when he adjusts it isn't hurting. I think there has to be more than that though because bending close to 45 degree is so painful. Any suggestions?
She has been missing going on 4 weeks and she lives just a few miles from me here outside of Orlando,Florida ...So I do not know if it happened while I was standing in medians, sidewalks, running to hand cars a flyer or did it happen with my SLLLOOOOWW run?? My husband says I hyperextended it- ? but the PAIN is right behind my right knee, that tendon. i guess is what that is, well it feels as if its on fire..
Well, in the last week, the are between my patella and thigh began to hurt badly, along the outside of my knee hurts all the way up into my thigh, on the inside the tenderness has progressed, also on the inside of my knee midway up my inner thigh I have a severe line of pain that I can also palpate. My knee and thigh are noticeably larger than the other other one. I am in so much pain.
If I sit with my legs bent for longer than a few minutes it's very painful to straighten that knee again. The pain is always in the back on the knee and usually towards the outside. Could there be a tear that was missed. Do I need to get a second opinion? I'm a 36 year old female.
I have had the exact same sharp pain to the outside of my right knee when kneeling. Although the pain doesn't show up when I poke or touch my knee, I can duplicate the pain when my knee is slightly bent and I press below the knee cap and rub to the painward side while still pressing.
I had total knee replacement surgery 10 weeks ago and am still experiencing significant knee pain, consisting of stiffness and alot of pain in the knee. The pain wakes me up at night. I am going to Physical Therapy 3 times a week and I still do alot of therapy myself at home. I walk, and try to go about my daily routine, but the pain is still there,, some days worse than others. I also had a three disc fusion done in January,, 2007.
for the last four years I have been experiencing sharp pain on the outside of my right knee starting usually after running about 3 miles. no pain when I am not running. It comes on gradually but I eventually need to stop running. The pain is located in the vicinity of the lateral meniscus and is most intense when my foot is off the ground and my leg moving forward. I have had no major injury to this knee. What is going on? is there anything I can do?
I had the scope because of osteoarthritis of the knee with severe osteoarthritis of the patellofemoral joint and was hoping the surgery would buy me a few more years to work. This was a big mistake because I am in more pain now than before the surgery.
3 years ago I hyper-extended my left knee running at full speed. Another player cut in front of me and my left leg was hyper-extended and "bowed out" to the left side. An MRI was performed and found only that the LCL was torn. The proximal fibular head was painful and was prominently sticking out. There was pain on the fibular head and I was unable to bend my big toe. There was also nerve tingling from the knee down. It hurt/ still hurts, to flex my lower leg.
I HAVE NOT DONE MUCH OF ANYTHING TODAY, STILL RUNNING A FEVER, THE KNEE HURTS LIKE HEY-DEY AND THE TWO MEDS FOR THE INFECTION ARE STARTING TO MAKE ME SICK,THE GP'S WORST FEAR,THERE'S VERY FEW THAT TREAT BURSITIS AND CELLULITIS (ALLEGIC TO SULFER BASED ANTIBIOTICS. I WILL SEE THE GP ON TUESDAY, THEN HAVE A EMG/NCS ON THE HANDS LATER THAT DAY,TO SEE WHY THEY ARE NUMB ALL THE TIME. GOING TO TAKE MY MEDS AND CLOSE MY EYES, IT IS EARLY BUT I CAN NOT KEEP MY EYES OPEN.
However, yesterday when I was running, I suddenly started getting sharp stabbing pain only on the outside of my right knee. My knee is NOT swollen at all, I can easily bend my knee and pushing all over it causes no pain. It only stabs when I'm jogging on that leg. Today it was way worse. It's not bad when I walk, but it's over the top when I run. The hip/upper femur pain is constantly present, but worse when I sit.
Hi, I have a painless, relatively hard lump on the outside of my right knee. It only really caused me discomfort about three years ago after playing tennis for a long period---it throbbed for a day or two, I guess because of the pounding on the hard surface. Otherwise, I cycle, run on a trendmill and use the rowing machine fairly frequently with no problem. I've had this "bump" for five years or so. I used to do quite a bit of road running 10-15 years ago, maybe 20 miles a week.

surgery on that nerve region on the outside of my knee. I guess to relieve any swelling or scarring or something rubbing up against the nerve. The neurologist isn't so sure. But the nerve pain medication he prescribed isn't doing much to help it. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem?? Please! I am really out of options and it hurts, but I have yet to hear one solid theory about what it could be. I am open to suggestions also about who else, if anyone, to ask.
