Avatar m tn Hi, there is a slight difference between running on a treadmill and running on a hard pavement or road. You have to choose the on which is comfortably for you as the outcome is equally good for both. If you are comfortable on treadmill then that is perfect. But if you insist on running outdoor then you have to slowly adjust by some stretching and warmup exercises. Using good, comfortable and cushioned shoes and avoid running on hard surfaces.

Avatar m tn If the pain comes on bending the knee as in walking step or running downhill or down a flight of stairs, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome or runners knee. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor.
Avatar n tn About two years ago I was diagnosed with patellar tendonitis as a result of running to much too soon. Now I am trying to get back into walking and running, I've started walking on a treadmill 4 miles a day (no running) and at the same time trying to stretch and strengthen my quads. I do wall squats and I push it, but don't bend the knee too much. The activity aggrivates the condition. My knee feels week, but no pain.

Avatar f tn I try to walk straight, take shorter strides, rest for a day or two in between work outs, but no matter what, once I up my speed, whether it is on a treadmill or on the street, my shins hurt so much I actually have to stop. Even when I get a pedicure, when they start the massage part up my legs and press on my shins, it really hurts. I always have to ask them to touch lightly. It really hinders my ability to increase my fitness level by walking or running.
Avatar m tn I started noticing that after running for 3 to 5 miles, I get bruises on my knee (the left knee has darker / larger bruise than the right knee). The bruises only hurt like a bruise when I press down on them. But they are not particularly painful when I walk or run the next day. I run about twice to 3 times a week. Question: Is this someting that I need to pay more attention to or is there any knee exercises that I can do? Thank you!!
Avatar f tn i wrote earlier that i am doing treadmill 6 days a week for an hour burning upto 300 calories...but i am also having in my knees as i climd stairs and come down or when i stand up instantly, it hurts for a sec as if i cant balance on it. any suggestions? i dont want to stop my treadmill. i do at intervals half walk half jog and half running.

So 2 days ago after a 30 minute run/walk on the treadmill, I noticed a bump on my left knee (the run went fine, with no accidents, just happen to notice my knee). The bump is on the outside and almost below the knee. There is absolutely no pain, or discomfort, and I can run and walk fine with no limp. The bump is almost like a bone or a ligament, is hard in texture and does not give way when felt.
Avatar f tn t conditioned enough to be running on the treadmill. Running on a treadmill is jarring. Stay with brisk walking on the treadmill. To be honest there is no need to run on a treadmill. Plus, brisk walking is easier on your joints. Maybe add: Resistance Training Strength Training Elliptical Machine Cycling Whatever you add I recommend something low impact until your weight comes down a bit more.
Avatar f tn 8 mph on the treadmill with no problems for 45 mintues. Now after 5 minutes on the treadmill at level 3.0 my knee pain starts up (same pain as the ITB). It's like someone is winding up my knee really tight with a screwdriver. What is up with this!!?? It is so frustrating. I had goals of at least walking a 10K and 1/2 marathon. I can do the elliptical, step, kickbox, etc all with no problems. I have been doing a lot of walking around, shopping, errands, etc. with no problem.
Avatar f tn Well I went about still exercising and then I developed a small rash, then my knee pain intensified. I thought arthritis because I felt the pain deep inside my knee. I saw a doctor who did an xray and it came back normal so I thought I was out of the woods. I still exercised but very slowely but for a half an hour everyday. Well I had a knee follow up appointment with my regular physician who told me to stay off my knee for two weeks.
Avatar f tn I have been icing and I am now wearing a compression tensor on my knee. Walking just seems to be the most challenging thing at the moment. I do have an appointment to start physio therapy a week from now, but I would hate to stop exercising when I am on a roll.
Avatar m tn but that seems to intensify the pain. I feel pain on the lateral side of my knee. It hurts a lot to bend and then once bent, it also hurts to unbend it. Also, i can hardly walk normally. I have a limp...this is because it hurts too bad to bend my knee, therefore, i literally have to walk by dragging my left leg. It's that bad. Bending is not the only problem, when i add pressure to the left side, i can also feel a sharp pain to my patella.
