Avatar f tn Back when I was a kid, I hurt my right knee pretty hard. Went to the doctors, as the "swelling" wasn't receding, and was diagnosed with exostosis. Had surgery to remove the ostheocondroma at the age of 13, which resided on the inner part of right knee. Around 20, it started bothering me again.
Avatar f tn t put much thought into it until recently. I know the pain in my knee started after running far distances, but it was also the same time I started sitting at a desk for 8 hrs straight every day. I also realized that the pain got better or worse depending on which chair I sat in and also when I was away from work for days at a time.
Avatar n tn I am a marathoner, last time i ran 17 miles on a regular schedule for San francisco marathon before 2 weeks and realised pain on knee and back. I stop running whenever i have such issues. I went to Detroit and came back in a bus, next morning my back pain was sever then i took rest for a day. I took some pain killer and got back to work and run again but max i could run in last 2 weeks is 5 miles. I am having shoulder and lower neck pain still.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have pain in the tibia of my left leg, which I think is below the knee cap. The pain started when I was 18, after I got an injury during a basketball game. Now I'm 20 and I still feel the pain only when I engage in physical activity. What's wrong with me. Could these by osgood schlatters disease?
Avatar m tn Everything was going great until month 5 when I started to slowly jog for very short distances (half mile increment to 1.5 mile). I felt severe medial pain in the tibia (surgery entrance area). I stopped running and decreased all other activity and ice more frequently. I could walk again w/o pain 2 weeks later. I started slowing jogging in small increments for another week in month 6 post op and the pain returned. It is so painful that I can't walk as well. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn Running fast for slow distances will make you faster but running slow for long distances will make you to lose weight, both of them will do better condition for you.
Avatar f tn ve learned to deal with it the best that I can. For a while I was into running, and would average about 3 miles per run without having an asthma attack. I injured my knee though and had to take about 6 months off. I'm ready to get back in to running, and I went to the track the other day to get a run in. After 1/8th of a mile I felt like I was going to die. It was like I never ran a day in my life.
1470596 tn?1286713970 I had this problem and realised thanks to my physio, that I overpronated when running. This can cause knee problems which is why I needed to buy shoes with arch support which stops the foot rolling inwards. For walking you can buy orthotic insoles but I would not recommend running with these. I use Adistar Salvations to run. A good running shop will check you for pronation before you buy. Also this might seem obvious but are you stretching before and after running.
1773330 tn?1314171331 i ve been running on threadmill for 2 weeks..i ve got a knee pain...any solution to decrease the pain?
Avatar f tn My knee is stiff and painful today underneath the knee cap where the pes anserine tendon inserts and to the inside of the knee cap (medially). I also have pain in the middle of the back of the knee, is especially sharp if I push into it. In terms of comfort and daily activities, I am having no trouble walking except that my knee will get a little swollen (very slight) and stiff if I walk a lot.
Avatar m tn ve been running with no knee pain. I run on the dirt/grass, where others run on the hard cement. Time after again they would get knee injuries. I quit running in races because I could feel the difference in the hard surface on my legs running verus the dirt/grass. If it was me, since I love running, I would stay off the hard cement. Our joints aren't made for that hard pounding.
Avatar n tn It includes the articulation between the tibia and femur (leg and thigh) and the patella (knee cap) and femur. The most common knee problems in running relate to what is called the "patellofemoral complex". This consists of the quadriceps, knee cap and patellar tendon. What is now called patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) has also been called runner's knee, anterior knee pain, or chondromalacia of the patella.
Avatar n tn Hello everyone, Have not been on this website in a long time but I think it is high time for me to come back. Let me start by saying that a month ago I was running 14 miles a week. 4 days a week, varying distances. I felt good and I felt strong. I was dieting well and lost 20 pounds over a few months. I hurt my knee on one run and had to stop for 2 weeks. At the end of those 2 weeks I got very very sick with tonsillitis. That was 2 1/2 weeks ago and now I am all better.
Avatar f tn I'm 7 weeks. I work hard and most days my knee flares pain. Never had it before anyone else?
Avatar m tn About 4 years ago I broke both my tib and fib. I had a rod put into my fib along with 2 screws on the bottom and 1 on top. In November of 2007 I had the screws taken out. Here is my problem. Pain ,Pain , Pain. 4 years and no better> My doctor told me that the bone has healed well, as long as a second ortho, who said the same thing. Why such excruiating pain??? Firstly I have a vice-like pain after walking short distances, it is painful to the point that I come close to vomiting.
Avatar n tn I like to stay active so I try to go walking and running in town. Halfway back from my walk it hurt unbelievably bad. My hips would not stop popping. I noticed that if I even push down on my hips it feels extremely painful. This only happens when I walk, run, or even ride horse. I don't have any clue of whats causing it and can't decide if I need to go to the doctor for it. Please help!
Avatar n tn After that, running and jumping has caused much pain in my knee. I went to an athletic trainer and they told me I had tendinitis and to ice and take ibuprofen. It continues to be very painful during practice. I can feel rubbing and clicking in my knee when I walk. What is wrong with my knee? Should I still be playing basketball or will it make it worse?
Avatar f tn My husband has been running for a while and we want to run together. I have gone running a few times with him early in my cycle. I know some people who ran while pregnant but they were marathon runners and such. I am a few days from my expected period. Can I run if I think I might be pregnant or find out I am pregnant? Right now I run very short distances. And only til I get winded because I have asthma so I don't want to get an asthma attack.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been having pain mainly in my left knee above and to the left of my left knee cap. I have had X-Rays and a MRI to see if any problems can be found. The doctors said they have found nothing wrong. I went a physical therapist around April of last year during spring track. He said I didn't have enough thigh strength. I do the exercises daily he instructed and they seem to not work anymore. Right now I am running winter track.
Avatar n tn It started out of no where and ever since, if I go on a run for longer than .75 mile, I get the same sharp pain again. If I continue running with the pain, I'll feel it in the same spot for the next 24-48 hours, especially when going downstairs/upstairs and of course when running. I've stopped running for a long time in hopes this would solve the issue, but after going for a run again recently it came right back.
Avatar f tn I have been running 3 miles a day fro 3x a week, until recently because i have been experiencing really aching pain in my knee and if i keep running it becomes really painful like i have torn something, and sometimes my knee gives way too, if i stop running and walk the pain wears off for a while, i have had an 6-8 week rest, but it still hurts when i try to bend my knee, it pulls really tight and hurts, haven`t tried running fully yet, sometimes the knee hurts really bad , it hurts in the back
Avatar f tn arthritis class, within 6 weeks, she was running, riding a bike and able to walk fairly long distances and she was 70+ at the time. Do a web search for "water exercises" and I think you will come up routines that you can do in the pool. Or talk to your doctor - maybe he has a water work out that he could give you. Exercising in the pool will help you lose weight AND could help ease the pain in your back and knees at the same time. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I love to run as well. For long, long distances. I assume you are also aware of the other aspects of good health as well. Try to increase fluid intake by about 16oz/day for the next couple of months. Also remember to really pack your diet with yummy whole foods, grains, beans, olive oil, and foods high in healthy fats such avacados, walnuts, and sweet potatoes. Most important of all, you must, must, must try as hard as you can to get 8 hrs of sleep at night.
Avatar f tn right knee painI have noticed recently that when I go to knell on my right knee it feels like it has a stone in it and then feels like a hot poker. Once I am on the knee for a bit it is ok but it happens each time. I do run and I have no issues while or after running. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn 30, with my gf and my knee got super tight and after another step a SHARP pain shot through it and I nearly fell. We had only gone about 4 miles and had warmed up properly and stretched, the weather was warm so I wasn't cold or tight when it happened. I have seen my medical department and they suspected ITB or Meniscus problems. However after about 2 months of aggressive icing, stretching, and physical therapy I can now run LESS and less before the pain comes back.
597183 tn?1226814437 However, I have toned down the intensity a bit. I used to love running, but now I tend to stay on the exercise bike so I can keep an eye on my heart rate. The problem is, I miss running and want to get back into it, such as 10ks and maybe marathons, but I've heard a lot of bad stories about people with heart conditions running long distances. Should I steer clear of something like this?
