Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain physical therapy

Avatar m tn I too have patella femoral syndrome. The best thing I ever did for my knee was to go to physical therapy. Look for a good manual therapist. They typically treat not just the knee but also look at how your calf and hip are affecting your knee.
Avatar f tn my acl had ripped during physical therapy so i had acl replacement on oct. 23 of 07. Ever since then i have had the worse knee pain ever. i can't walk in the morning, severe pain unless i have at least 2 norcos. I don't have insurance but i have paid for a reavulation at the same physical therapy place i went to and they told me that i needed to go to pain management and more surgery for knee replacement. i'm only 18....
Avatar m tn s have said muscles around her knee joint needed strengthening and she has been going to physical therapy. the 1st therapist she went to said the range of motion in her hip/knee was minimal and had her do a stretching routine. I decided not to continue with the therapy since she could do these stretches at home. To my regret she didn't continue with the stretches and about a year later her knee/hip pain worsened. X-ray's were taken. Radioligist and orthopedic said x-ray looked fine.
Avatar m tn Hello. just coming on here to see if anyone else has or is still in pain 8+ months after total hip replacement? Back in June of 2012 I had the surgery done. The arthritis had set in to my left hip, but the pain was spread to my left knee?? doc said the hip replacement would more than likely take care of the knee pain. At first (in the second week after) the pain wasn't so bad in the knee, but the pain came back shortly after that and isn't getting better.
Avatar f tn I went through Physical Therapy and my pain was very minimal (have always had slight knee pain) for about two months before I started having the problems again. Turns out I have Tendonitis again, but no one can answer why I keep getting it(I am not an athlete I am 21 years old and I work in a retail store in Customer Service and my latest visit was to an Orthopedic Specialist) and what else I can do besides Physical Therapy to stop these issues.

Avatar m tn I just went back the other day for my follow up because my knee pain has gotten worse and he thinks i have damaged cartilage in my knee and if i do he said i need surgery. So if i do have to have surgery how long is the recovery and will i have to wear knee braces if i play these sports from now on?
1573930 tn?1295917640 Have you done any physical therapy?? I am sure your doctor ordered physical therapy for your knee replacement. You may need to be treated for RSD...some doctors don't know anything about it. Please look up RSD symtoms and see if anything resonates with you. Good luck.
Avatar f tn He gave me a prescription for physical therapy and said that they have a great prenatal therapy with a whirlpool. Has anyone ever done therapy for pain during pregnancy?
Avatar f tn Patella femoral pain is usually treated non-surgically with physical therapy and bracing. 90% of patients recover with conservative management. The first step in your treatment should be to see an orthopedist, and to receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been having pain mainly in my left knee above and to the left of my left knee cap. I have had X-Rays and a MRI to see if any problems can be found. The doctors said they have found nothing wrong. I went a physical therapist around April of last year during spring track. He said I didn't have enough thigh strength. I do the exercises daily he instructed and they seem to not work anymore. Right now I am running winter track.
Avatar n tn when i walk i have a pain in the back of my knee and i dont trust my left leg supporting the weight of my body, i was wondering what that would be?
1308443 tn?1302693321 My daughter was diagnosed with JRA at 5 1/2, but actually started having problems the same month she turned 3. It took that long to diagnose her. At 7 she was in physical therapy for a year while they tried to straighten the curvitures of the knees. I'm not telling you you have JRA, I'm just saying you MAY have it so get evaluated by a Rhuematologist.
Avatar n tn Is there any surgery for this repair? He suggested physical therapy. Ive read that physical therapy in alot of cases doesnt work. I live in NY Long Island. Does anyone know any specialist. My Op Report states "The superior pole of the patella did have a flap tear of cartilage"The patellofemoral joint and noted that the patient had a significant amount of chondromalacia on the superior aspect of the patella and also a flap tear of the cartilage. I would op for surgery.
4268628 tn?1375041176 Hello ladies! I highly suggest physical therapy for joint pain! I'm don't agree with the group sessions tho! You can always try and if ita not for you then seek another therapist and/or clinic. You need 1 on 1 with a therapist that is skilled in manual therapy, muscle energy, and strain counterstrain! I am a physical therapist and treat many pregnant women with much success! Now with that said some pains will not be fully releived until baby is delivered!
Avatar m tn Sorry for the detail, but maybe it will help you understand in answering the question as to what area of the knee may be injured, or if not injured, then what is going on? : I was in an accident which caused my knee to grind, and become painful as I went up and downsteps, in which I could have tolerated if knew how much worse I would feel after physical therapy.
Avatar f tn I have had a limited amount of pain compared to the painful knee replacement surgery and physical therapy following that. It has been 13 months since then, and the only lasting effect is the "knocking" popping sensation and sounds from the rotating platform knee system. I thought it might go away, but it still hasn't. I don't intend on repeating the two surgeries on the other side for a couple of years, unless my left foot or knee dictate it quicker.
Avatar n tn My nine year old daughter, Irene, has presented with knee pain for the last three weeks. She has to use crutches to walk. She can bend her leg at the knee with no problem but she cannot straighten it without crying out in pain, she cannot put any weight on it because it hurts worse. She has had x-rays, an MRI and has appointments with physical therapy, orthopedics, and rheumatology. The xrays came back negative, the MRI showed no problems with her bones just slight inflamation.

Avatar n tn what is the average length of rehab therapy after total knee replacement? This discussion is related to On-going Pain after Knee replacement surgery.
1903798 tn?1333905288 So today was my first day of physical therapy. I was relieved that she actually knew about chiari and EDS. I had a little fun when she wanted to check range of motion...I giggled...she asked what was funny and I said remember I have EDS. After my evaluation she decided there was no way anyone should be doing manipulations to my body. I was glad. She said ok stretch and strengthening it is for you. She also said she would not be pushing down on my head due to my PFD.
Avatar f tn My parents and fiance said hen the dr came in to talk to them after I was in recovery he told them it ws a lot worse than he expected, and that i was going to have a lot of issues on my left side my but my parents disnt ask why and did not tell me this until after we were home and i was complaining about the back left side of my head My family suggested physical therapy and set me up an appt.
Avatar n tn According to what I read rest, and physical therapy are the main treatments along with NSAIDs for pain and inflammation. I don't understand why it is going to take a whole year to get into physical therapy? Perhaps you need to call a different place..unless where you are located you do not have access to this type of choice. Perhaps then researching this "runner's knee" or chondromalacia patella and seeing what others say might be a good start.
