Avatar f tn I have a hard lump on the lateral side of my knee and bruising around knee and it band. I cannot bend knee and feal pain all the time, when sitting, lying or walking. When i press lump there is irritability and pain. It hurts to straighten knee. I had an x-ray that shows a minor lateral patella tracking but my knee cap does not hurt. I have had this for a year, what can I do to fix this and go back to sport?

Avatar m tn Hello, I am a 28 year old ex military man. Wile in the service during training I felt a sharp pain in my outer left knee. It was intence for awile but then it went away so ofcourse being mr military i did not complain. Now I am out of the military and trying ot get back in shape. I have noticed that if i try and jump and pull my left heal to my butt and down. I get a shap pain on the left side of my left knee. I dont' know how to explain the pain as anything except a stabbing feeling.
Avatar n tn Ever since then, I have had a bad, achy pain in the right side of my knee on the joint line, especially when standing and I pick my foot up. The worst pain is when I rotate my toes outward with my knee bent. It occasionally hurts when decelerating, and definitely when going down stairs. I got an MRI today and am waiting the results, but does this sound like a tear? I know it's not large since the knee hasn't locked, but I do feel a small pop on that side of my knee when I straighten it.
Avatar m tn I have a hard boney bump on the outer side of my left knee cap. I only started to notice the bump after I've increased my running miles. The bump has only recently started to give me pain while I'm active. It is not painful to touch, but it hurts really bad when I climb stairs or bend my knee. What could be the problem?
Avatar f tn The MCL is intact. LATERAL COMPARTMENT: Allowing for motion artifact, there is fraying to the lateral meniscal posterior horn free edge, and the posterior root is diminutive. Superficial chondral fibrillation is present at the posterior meniscal surface of the tibial plateau without subchondral remodeling. Intact lateral collateral ligament complex and structures of the posterolateral corner. INTERCONDYLAR NOTCH: The anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are intact.
Avatar f tn 18years prior I had a broken tibial plateau that required bone graft (freeze dried cadaver bone) with 2 screws and meniscus repair on the lateral side. Screws were taken out and the plateau had to be reshaped on both the lateral and medial sides to due excess bone growth from the repair. I've been skiing ever since. MRI findings..... Tear of the undersurface of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.
Avatar m tn Recently I have also experienced minimal hip pain. While walking, the area along the medial side of the knee also hurts. The entire area feels like it is full of sand to touch. At times it feels like my knee is buzzing or growling and shifting - even while it is stationary. I experience many different kinds of pain in many different areas of the knee, everything from the type of pain that accompanies a bruise to pinching, burning, and stinging.
Avatar f tn over the last 3 weeks I have been having alot of pain to the lateral side of my left knee. Mainly when I am standing from being in a squatted position. The pain is so bad I have to hold on to something and slowly straighten up. I can walk just fine. It hurts when I bend my calf to my thigh when I am shaving. I have been taking alot of IBU and applying ice. I finally went to see the doctor and they what to do an mri...Any suggestion?
Avatar f tn a bakers cyst is a fluid filled sac in the back of the knee. inside your knee, providing padding on top of your tibia, there are two "pads" called menisci (medial and lateral) and by the report, it sounds like you have a tear to the lateral meniscus. a grade 3 tear is usually the worst. (grade 1, 2 and 3) truncated means 'short' so a short/small meniscus? (that would be my best guess:) i really dont know about the staying off the legs. and surgery...
Avatar f tn the pain is at the right side of my right knee, its situated near the fibula, not indicating that my bone is the one hurting, the pain is distinctive as it only hurts in a manner or form of a thread, the pain doesn't take up all of the right part of my knee, its just a thread shape pain that seems to extend from the femur down to the fibula.
Avatar m tn Dear Dr Junig. I started with pain above my right knee (lateral side) 18 months ago, which then quickly translated into pain the whole length of my IT band. I had several months of physio, stretching strengthening exercises. I have had knee, hip and back x-rays, MRI scans on my back and hip, two knee operations for mild CMP and a lateral release. I have also seen a chiropracter and had a bio-mechanical assessment (othotics req'd).
Avatar n tn Doctors call the outside of the knee the lateral side of the knee. There are several common causes for pain in this area that vary by age and activity level. Once the source of the lateral knee pain is identified, it usually can be eliminated or decreased.
Avatar f tn Hi my name is Ursula, I am 17 years old and when I was younger I had fallen off of a pyramid in cheerleading, as I got older I had consent intense pain in my right knee. Finally in October the doctor offered a Lateral Release as solution to my knee cap creating a new groove in my bone. The day after the surgery I was already feeling relief from the 10 years of constant pain. I am 2 months post- op and moving around better than I ever have.
Avatar n tn I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee almost 3 months ago. The medial and lateral meniscus were repaired along with scraping under patella for some arthritis. The medial was much more damaged than the lateral. Surgery seemed to go well. No pain at all. After some weeks with therapy the knee still feels unstable laterally. Front to back movement was very good, Pain developed on medial side of knee and the patella tendon when walking.
Avatar n tn It might be some muscle flexors pain. Lateral side of your thigh you have some muscles like iliacus, Psoas major, Psoas minor which help in flexion if you have some injury or damage to some fibres then you might have this, Orthopaedician is the best person and muscle damage is difficult to find out in X-Ray. Take some anti inflammatory drugs to relieve the pain. Take care!
Avatar f tn t been in p,t for 3 weeks I still have pain in the back of my knee and on the lateral side the pain in the lateral side only comes so often and mostly when I wake up from sleep any help plz comment

Avatar f tn I did competitive gymnastics for over 11 years, and I always had some kind of knee pain. I never adressed it, because I figured that it was just from overuse. Now I am a rower in college, and I am having a lot of trouble with my knees. It started in January, so i went to see the athletic trainer at my college. After doing pt and stim and ice with her for over a month, i did not see any results.
Avatar n tn Rule out meniscus injury. TECHNIQUE: MRI of the knee was performed using the following sequences: axial, sagittal, and coronal proton density weighted with fat saturation; sagittal proton density weighted; sagittal 3D GRE. 284 images were presented for interpretation. Comparison(s): Right knee radiograph, 12/7/15 FINDINGS: Menisci: Medial meniscus: Horizontal tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus with extension into the body.
Avatar f tn In your instance, Meniscus refers to the cartilage of your knee, both the lateral or medial meniscus. In medical terms Lateral means side(s) and Medial means the middle or lying near the middle. It reveals some wear and tear, thinning - with possible surgical changes to the meniscus. Chondral means pertaining to cartilage - the meniscus is made up of cartilage. It acts as a cushion, shock absorber if you will - of the knee joint. In my opinion this may be the reason for your knee pain.
1587585 tn?1309432260 If you hurt your knee doing side lunges, this may be a meniscal injury or to the MCL. Pain in the back of the knee may be local inflammation, or swelling. Continue the NSAID's, rest, and ice; if the pain persists, see an orthopedist.
Avatar n tn The lateral portion on the muscle has become extremely strong and it seems like the back part of my knee (on the lateral side) had developed this hard-over developed "something" and is causing me a great deal of pain and tightness around my knee. The left side of my foot feels like it is being torn apart and/or very numb. I can walk but it feels like all the pressure and activity is solely on the lateral part of the muscle. Any thoughts? This is driving me crazy!
Avatar m tn This has been 7 months and today it feels like the day after it happened. I have constant pain on or around the lateral side of my left knee. The back of my knee always feels extremely swollen and causes significant pain. Now I'm even feeling pain on the other side of me knee. My knee constantly feels weak. I am forever limping around and I think that is causing my hip to hurt.
Avatar f tn s sliding off to the side (lateral) and only returns to its normal position if I straighten my knee or wait a few minutes for it to return by itself. The pain is terrible. This usually happens if I bend my knee a certain way, but I've never experienced serious trauma to the knee. The pain only lasts about 15-30 minutes after the incident and I'm fine afterwards. Recently my knee hasn't been doing this completely. Instead, it pops out and goes right back immediately.
Avatar m tn I was putting in padded flooring in my home gym for about 4 hours. Since then I've had pain in my right knee only when kneeling on my right knee (like when tying shoes). It's to the side of the knee and feels like something is being stretched laterally at first, before I get a sharp pain that feels like it's stinging/tingly. It is not completely on the side of my knee, but in the softer area to the side of my knee cap.
10947 tn?1281404252 What are the success rates of such a surgery and is it worth contemplating? Will the lateral ligament release weaken the lateral side of the knee and what is the purpose of this part of the procedure? Should I consider a second opinion? On the first visit to the Orthopaedist, I told him I did not want surgery. He said he would do what he could to treat the problem conservatively. I saw the results of the x-rays and MRI so I am aware of what the results revealed.
