As the topic states, I get knee pain in the back of my knee when jumping off one leg while playing basketball. However, the back story should help explain things. About three years ago I rolled my ankle a number of times over the course of a couple of months. It was to the point where I favored it and just started jumping off my opposite, strong leg. This worked for the most part. However, I still managed to roll my weak ankle incidentally while playing from time to time.

Hi! I have had right knee pain and swelling and tenderness on inside of knee below the kneecap to the shinbone. It is tender in one spot to touch and makes me jump. If I walk very far it aches afterward. I had MRI and ortho doc said just meniscus fraying and old MCL sprain and inflammation under kneecap.
After that, running and jumping has caused much pain in my knee. I went to an athletic trainer and they told me I had tendinitis and to ice and take ibuprofen. It continues to be very painful during practice. I can feel rubbing and clicking in my knee when I walk. What is wrong with my knee? Should I still be playing basketball or will it make it worse?
My 10 year daughter has knee pain on both sides and directly beneath her knee cap. She plays soccer and it not painful to play. It does bother her after she plays, going up and down stairs and after she has been sitting or sleeping. We are having her take motrin and ice it after games. Not sure if it is any better.

Hi, How are you feeling? Your symptom of pain behind the knee cap suggests that your pain can be due to either a ligament weakness or meniscus issue. When any patient complains of “knee pain,” the initial differential diagnosis in most of the cases includes: Osteoarthritis, Ligament damage, Meniscus damage or Patello-femoral disorder. If you give little detail regarding your symptomatology it will helpful in discussing further.
When I landed, i felt a sharp pain in the middle of my left knee. I did not feel any popping, just a very sharp pain right behidn the patella. I didn't think anything of it that day, and it never bruised or swelled. I laid off the knee for the remainder of the week, but when i started lifting the next week, anything that put stress on the knee hurt. Squats, Legpress, Deadlifts, they all hurt right at the middle of the knee behind the patella.
Hi, I have pain in the tibia of my left leg, which I think is below the knee cap. The pain started when I was 18, after I got an injury during a basketball game. Now I'm 20 and I still feel the pain only when I engage in physical activity. What's wrong with me. Could these by osgood schlatters disease?

I just went back the other day for my follow up because my knee pain has gotten worse and he thinks i have damaged cartilage in my knee and if i do he said i need surgery. So if i do have to have surgery how long is the recovery and will i have to wear knee braces if i play these sports from now on?

Over the past 4 days I have been experiencing pain/Throbbing in my right knee. I do not recall doing any activities which may have damaged it in anyway. The pain feels like it comes from underneath my knee cap, slightly to the right. It throbbs when I am sat down, and if i move my knee left or right whilst my foot is on the floor I get a very sharp shooting pain which makes me jump.

Lately when I have been running and swimming the knee pain starts when I'm about half way through my 3 mile loop or mile swim. The pain is located on my right knee, lateral side, below the knee cap. I hope someone can give me advise. I went to the doctor and he said it would heal up in time but all he checked for was LCL and said it all the ligaments were in good condition.

He was forced to jump from a 2nd floor roof to escape a fire 10 yrs ago. He was able to save many, but two foster children and his mother-in-law burned to death. He works in construction, and is a former coal miner, and has worked as a farrier (shoes horses) in the past. He also owns and runs a small farm with some livestock. His general health is good. He is physically fit. He has a hx of herniated disc repair about 20 years ago. He states he was doing well until the accident.

but if he does it again font be afraid trip knee gin in the chest when he jumps. It won't hurt him at all but better to get him to stop now than having him jump on you later. wasn't sure if it was a common thing or a 1 time thing.
A microdiscectomy is typically performed for a herniated lumbar disc and is actually more effective for treating leg pain (also known as radiculopathy) than lower back pain. Have a great week everyone.
The muscle spasms are driving me nutts, I can handle the ones that dont hurt but sheesh i'd like a day with out the ones in my ribs and my stupid knees, the pain is like a sledge hammer lol. Oh i have no idea what a charley horse means but if its anything like having your hamstrings ripped out, then i've been introduced to that one too. Thankfully the tremor is not as bad but i still cant hide it, and i'm back to throwing things all over the place again.
hello, I play volleyball, which is hard on the knees from diving to jumping all the time... a few months ago I dove and hit my knee on the groung very hard. My knee pain went away and it recently has come back. It feels like a knife goes into my knee right below my knee cap every time i jump or put a lot of pressure on it like trying to stand up. I have been icing it, but it won't go away....Does anyone 1. Know what is wrong? or 2. Know how to fix it?
A few months ago, I started to have back pain, in my lower spine, and horrible knee pain. I can still handle the back pain cause it stops after 30 minutes of training, and returnes after it (I don't care as long as I can play), but knee pain in my left knee is horrible. Yesterday I jumped and felt as like someone is stabbing me with a knife in my knee. I couldn't stand on my left leg for 10 minutes, and after that it still hurts a bit, but I can walk nicely today.
I have been having knee troubles since mid november of last year. The pain came up about two weeks after basketball had started and it hasn't gotten much better or worse to this day. The pain comes when I jump, squat, lunge, etc. which causes playing basketkball very difficult. The pain is worst directly on my kneecap.
