Knee pain from overuse

Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain from overuse

knee-pain

Avatar m tn Hi, I have pain in the tibia of my left leg, which I think is below the knee cap. The pain started when I was 18, after I got an injury during a basketball game. Now I'm 20 and I still feel the pain only when I engage in physical activity. What's wrong with me. Could these by osgood schlatters disease?
Avatar n tn Ever since then I cannot knee on a certain part of that knee. If I do I get a sharp, burning, stinging pain that quickly subsides once off the knee. I can walk and run on it fine, and have not experienced any swelling or other problems. I cannot feel any abnormalities on the outside. The pain is on top of the knee. Even pushing on a certain area it is is sensitive. What do you think?
Avatar n tn m now 32). The pain started below my knee, and is now accompanied with pain shooting down my shin. It also now feels as if something from the top of my knee is pulling as well. I am hurting, and I don't know what else to do. I am also taking Naperson (sp?), which is not helping. I can't take anything more than that, because pain meds knock me on my butt & I don't want that. Please help with other suggestions while I await my doctors appointment.
Avatar f tn it also gives out every now and then, and now i also am experiencing a shooting pain that feels cold and radiates partly down to my upper calf bone, and after the shooting pain is over, the knee feels very cold and achy. (this pain i am describing is occurring inside the knee, and not on the exterior. any ideas?
Avatar f tn This time around, i have been having a very sharp pain under my knee, inside the knee cap and on the side of my knee (laterally) Its like its locking, catching and occurs mostly when i walk, i cannot straighten the knee fully. It also happens either after walking awhile like 5-10 miniutes or right away. Sometimes i dont have a pain occurrence at all until the end of the day after overuse. Did I tear something this time hurting my knee?
Avatar f tn I could be walking fine one minute and the next limping from the pain shooting through my knee. There was never a definate diagnosis. He told me to come back when my knee flared up again but the last flare up hasn't really ever ended. It clicks all the time. I don't know what is wrong and don't know what to do about it. I've never felt the tingling at the bottom of my foot before and am wondering with all these symptoms what could be going on with my knee.
Avatar m tn Leg presses and lifts still aggravate my knee so I have been doing exercises to build up the side of my legs and my gluts in hopes of off-loading weight from my knee. These exercises have caused mild irritation but are now aggravating my knee, presumably because the cortisone is wearing off. Neither the doctor not the physical therapist can pin point a diagnosis. Its really frustrating and I am reluctant to do surgery when the MRI showed nothing. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.
Avatar n tn It is not my whole leg JUST the knee area. Sometimes it is both knees sometimes it is just one. If it was from the knee down to my foot I would just assume it is the circulation being cut off from the way my leg was positioned. I also sleep with a pillow between my knees to reduce this and it does not seem to make a difference.
Avatar f tn Hi there, A complete clinical examination is essential for correct diagnosis. There can fluid within the knee joint itself, or in the surrounding soft tissue. Acute injuries, anterior cruciate ligament tear, meniscal tears, ligament sprains all can lead to fluid or blood accumulation around the knee joint. If there is no history of trauma any infection in the knee joint can lead to swelling.
Avatar m tn About 5 weeks ago I was trying to do rapid-squats without any warm up (yes, stupid, I know), and got this really sharp pain in my right knee, kind of under the kneecap - in the muscle area of my right leg I've been trying to not run at all to aggravate it, and trying to keep it straight, but I'm still taking walks on it. The pain has gotten a lot better, and it's only painful when I squat, kneel or bend my legs (the least painful).
Avatar f tn However, it would disappear almost immediately when I straightened it. Recently, I have been having more continuous pain, it feels like I should have a floor burn on my knee but there isn't one. It also has this prickly feeling to it. I saw an orthopedist who simply said the pain was due to overuse of my muscle, however he never asked me to describe the pain. I have had sore and overused muscles before and it has felt nothing like this. Does anyone know if he is correct in his diagnosis?
Avatar f tn Well I went about still exercising and then I developed a small rash, then my knee pain intensified. I thought arthritis because I felt the pain deep inside my knee. I saw a doctor who did an xray and it came back normal so I thought I was out of the woods. I still exercised but very slowely but for a half an hour everyday. Well I had a knee follow up appointment with my regular physician who told me to stay off my knee for two weeks.
1327032 tn?1288840755 Wow I have to say I have been pretty much sx free and today my knee joint started acheing bad! I put a benjay like patch on my knee tonight. I hope that is ok on tx what else can I do to make it feel better?
Avatar n tn I have the same problem and I have severe back and neck pain and my husband who is not a doctor suspected it should be from poor posture and arising from back pain. I am wondering pelvic lift excercise and neck excersice will help? Does walking improve the circulation?
Avatar f tn Same with your groin pain -- it could be referred pain, say from your performs or your hips, or it could be the groin itself that's injured. If you just don't want to see specialists and get pictures taken, you're probably left with resting completely for a while and see if it goes away, but if it keeps coming back, something is damaged even if it's only weak muscles or inflammation.
Avatar f tn s an intense pain centered in my knee. It is in the front of my leg and in the soft points on my knee. Sometimes in the back but not so often. Sometimes it's in my calf on the back. It makes me limp and have to sit down pretty often. I cannot spend much time on my feet or else my feet fall asleep. I had Xrays and nothing showed up. My knee does not have fluid. That's why it gets swollen, right? My legs have no fractrures (I had fallen on a cement pad 3 years ago).
Avatar m tn Do you have any referred pain in your thigh or knee? The reason I ask is I do and it is from the torn hip labrum that I have. It is also on my left side. GL to you in your search for the cause of your pain.
Avatar f tn s cyst with multiloculated fluid dissecting laterally and superiorly with a focal collection along sciatic nerve. This knee pain is not due to an injury but from overuse remodeling a house up and down a lot of stairs, ladders and kneeling on floor. I am 63 years old in good condition and do not want surgery if I can avoid it. Would appreciate any suggestions on how to treat this.
Avatar n tn I have looked for patterns to try to self-diagnose, such as hydration levels, with no success. The pain often begins in my knee as a dull ache that can be temporarily alleviated by putting pressure on the patellar tendon, but then will radiate into either my hip or ankle. NSAID's seem to help sometimes. However, today I woke up with excruciating pain in my quad. It is not a cramp because there are no knots on palpation and stretching does not help.
Avatar n tn The injury feels like I overstretched something, similar to a pulled muscle. From the squat position it is at the top of the knee, above the cap and painful to any pressure. It has evolved into a dull pain behind the cap and located at the top. I work a desk job and the worst part is keeping the knee in the sitting position. It is really difficult to stand up and straighten it out.
Avatar f tn But the pediatrician said that Osgood Schlatter is more involved near the ligament below the knee that connects to the libia and that my son's was a bony growth on his bone just below this area. His symptoms are pain with actitivies, pain at night, and sometimes he limps. It is slightly swollen around the growth but is not hot to touch and he says that it does not hurt when pressure is applied and that is a general dull ache in the area but not directly on the bump.
Avatar f tn I'm 17, and I've had knee pain in my right knee as long as I can remember. it is usually happens after standing/walking for long periods of time. Ive been to my doctor and to an orthopedic doctor, and they don't know what it is. I've gone through many xrays, and the only thing they found was a small, thin line going across my kneecap, but they said that it was nothing to worry about.
