Avatar n tn What type of pain is this that hits the right knee abruptly even like lightning so swift, and travels from the knee straight through the thigh nerve and/or tissues, shooting straight to the joint of the thigh and groins that lasts at least one to two minutes. Sometime the pain is so severe even after it has left I can still feel the pressure it leaves behind.
Avatar n tn I had my knee partiallly replaced on the inside of knee. Was in a lot of pain in bursa sac area and along incision. My ortho tried 3 injections and the nerve continued to intensely burn, twirl and I felt like something cold was running down the inside of my calf. I felt this 24-7. 1 month ago the Dr. reopened the incision and clipped the nerve. I am now experiencing not as intense burning but like their are more nerves being hot. Will this go away.?
Avatar m tn I have the pain from adhesions as well, but mine are from a laparotomy and 2 laparoscopic surgeries in the abdominal area. Really not much I can do about them at least according to the surgeon I saw about 5 months ago for them. Yes I could have surgery again, but heck surgery is what created them....So a no win situation...for me. I did have 2 knee surgeries and never got adhesions or scar tissue from either of them.
Avatar f tn ve had 3 hip implants and the pain from the hip causes pain ALL the way down my leg. If you stop and think about it your entire leg is connected to your knee and therefore it WILL affect your entire leg. I hope that you will give us the missing information such as your EXACT diagnosis and like I said we might be able to be of more help to you. :) Looking forward to your update.........

Avatar f tn I have an 18 year old daughter who has been suffering from joint pain for about 3 and a half years now. Her pain started in one knee and gradually over time has extended to her other knee, hips, ankles, shoulders, and lower back. She has seen many doctors, has had x-rays, MRIs, and one arthroscopy surgery on her knee. She has soft cartilage in her knees. She tried taking glucosamine but found no relief after 6 months so she stopped taking it. She cries to me almost every night.
Avatar m tn Spinal stenosis is a fairly common problem caused by constriction of the spinal cord or nerves exiting from the spinal cord. Central stenosis is stenosis of the spinal cord as foraminal stenosis is tightening of the exiting nerves or nerve roots. None of these types are seen on your MRI.
Avatar f tn Generally weakness of the inner thigh muscles and tightness of the outer thigh muscles causes the knee cap to move from its place and cause knee pain and knee locking. This could have happened in your case if you have a localized muscle wasting only. Alternatively locking of knee (say due to torn piece of cartilage or bone figments) and knee pain could have caused a localized muscle atrophy in the thigh due to less use of the muscles.
Avatar f tn I could be walking fine one minute and the next limping from the pain shooting through my knee. There was never a definate diagnosis. He told me to come back when my knee flared up again but the last flare up hasn't really ever ended. It clicks all the time. I don't know what is wrong and don't know what to do about it. I've never felt the tingling at the bottom of my foot before and am wondering with all these symptoms what could be going on with my knee.
Avatar m tn My mother is 58 years of age. She has pain in her left knee for almost last one year and this leg is swollen for same period. We consulted various doctors (including ortho.) but there is no improvement. X-ray was done and she has been treated by doctors for crack in skin and infection, but there is no improvement. She can not put her full weight on right leg and can not move on stairs. There is small history of one injury in her legs.
Avatar m tn This knee pain can arise from the knee itself or referred from conditions affecting the hip, ankle or the lower back. MRI spine will reveal the cause whether it is a vertebral fracture, slipped intervertebral disc causing nerve impingement etc since these symptoms started with the back injury. You could take oral anti anxiety medicines like benzodiazepines under medical supervision. If it is difficult, an anesthesiologist could be requested for intravenous sedation or even general anesthesia.
Avatar n tn When I bend the knee beyond 90 degrees I have a sharp pain on the lateral side of the knee cap. I have tried to be positive, but I don't see things getting better. It is very frustrating since I too thought things would be better than when I went in for the partials. It is like I have a tourniquet wrapped around my leg just below my knee. I ice every night and even heat pack for relief. I have tried five different PT's with not one knowing finding the answer.

Avatar n tn I have had the same thing in my left leg - it's been about 2 weeks now for me. Started with some pain behind my knee, I couldn't straighten my leg all the way. Then the pain kind of moved down into my calf, affected my thigh a little, then behind my knee -- it's been on and off for 2 weeks. I tried icing it which kind of helped - tried wearing a knee brace, sort of helped.
Avatar f tn I have an appt on Tuesday the 16th but I just looked at my knee since I have been in a lot of pain. I have bruises all over my knee. The pain is shooting from my knee to my thighs.
Avatar m tn The regular arthritis pain increases gradually when the patient is walking and prevents walking altogether after about 15 yards. The grabbing pain is additional to the regular pain. The only relief for the pain is sitting. Lying down, getting up, standing, walking, twisting, reaching, any movement may cause the grabbing pain unexpectedly. It seems to radiate from the spine across the top of the hip and down the right leg.
Avatar m tn (right leg only) Pain when sitting or laying down. Little or no pain when standing or walking. Negative MRI. Pain fluctuates from outter thigh to inner thigh. Sharp pain in calf as well. Also in knee area and Hamstring. Have had X-rays. Nothing remarkable. Pain is off the chart. Could it be a nerve issue?
Avatar m tn Seemed pretty inoccuous, was a slow speed fall. Could be an issue related to severed nerves below my knee from a high tibial osteotamy. Will get it checked out anyway. Ta.
1524655 tn?1291420532 If the articular cartilage damage is shallow (grades 1 or 2) you may not experience any pain from the defect at this stage as the sensitive nerve endings in the subchondral bone are still covered with some articular cartilage. As you had pain with the damage that means the injury also damaged some nerves beneath the cartilage. The damage to nerves and subchondral bone can start a healing process in the defect.
Avatar n tn on regular basis she would have this strange sensation in her left knee sa if she had ants in her knee and would find some relief by twisting it until it popped.About 4 weeks ago but this time it was painful, then about a week later while walking at the park she felt a hard pop with intense pain. After going to the doctor and a mri it was confirmed that one of the two menisci is torn and she is to go for an artheroscopy. What could be that sensation in her knee ?
Avatar f tn I'm a 30 something yr. old woman and for the past month I have having chronic pain in my left thigh and knee. I don't recall falling down when the pain started occuring everyday. OTC pain meds aren't helping. There isn't any unexplained bruises.
Avatar n tn (seems to be helping the pain) The acupuncturist, who is also an MD stuck one needle behind my right knee and I immediately experianced a lot of pain at the site. He replaced the needle and it seemed to be fine but the area was sore arfter removal and my right foot had some sensory disturbances right away. Since then I have intermitant pins and needles on top of my right foot and some tingling in my right calf on the outside.
Avatar f tn Patients with a loose total knee joint limp. The pain is usually felt in the whole knee area, predominantly in the front, along with increasing stiffness and effusion in the knee joint. With advancing time patient will not be able to put weight and diminished motion in the joint. Diagnosis can be made with the help of X-rays. Revision operation can be considered if there is unbearable pain, progression of osteolysis and loss of function.
Avatar n tn Both knees, radiates from knee up to lower back and sometimes down shins. The pain is not sharp, but a constant dull ache. I describe it like striking a tuning fork... the pain starts in my knees and then radiates out to the other areas. I do get sciatic nerve problems sometimes too. The pain keeps me up at night.
