Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain from gout

knee-pain

Avatar n tn Hi, at this age the cause of knee pain are arthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, bursitis etc. As you don't have history of recent trauma, it is unlikely to be ligament or meniscus tear. Investigations like MRI, blood tests like ESR, RF, ANA etc are done to find out causes related to autoimmune diseases. Try cold compression, crepe bandage and pain killers like diclofenac etc.
Avatar f tn Hi, how old are you? Any family history of arthritis? Usually multiple joints are involved in rheumatoid arthritis, it is autoimmune disorder. Investigations like ESR, RA factor and X ray of relevant joint is undertaken. Other possibility is gout, but in gout usually single joint is involved. Please consult orthopedic surgeon.
Avatar n tn Hi Dr Ghosh My dad just came home today, and he told me that the pain is the same pain he felt while he had a gout attack in September, however, it's not on his right knee anymore. He's feeling the pain on the front area of his foot/big toe and the toe next to it. Is this still gout?

It hurts to stand or walk for a long period of time. I cant even play with my grandson like I use to. I read some people experience the same pain especially the hip. I drink alot of water also.will this ever end? I feel like crying. I have a doctors appointment june 11th. If someone has any advise I would appreciate the feedback.
Avatar n tn Hi, It is good that xray and MRI of the knee and other tests showed good results. Was there blood test done? This will help rule out infection or presence of gout. Knee pain usually results from arthritis (rheumatoid, osteoarthritis, and gout), baker's cyst, bursitis, connective tissue disorders such as lupus, dislocation of the kneecap, iIliotibial band syndrome, infection or any trauma or abnormalities in the structures in the knee.
Avatar n tn The episodes do not occur with drinking from what I can tell. The pain is not localized in one specific area of my knee either it is my entire knee. I experience extreme swelling with very little motion allowed if any at all. I hope that helps.
Avatar n tn Initially the doctor took fluid from the knee joint because his feeling was that it may be gout. After receiving the results of this test to be negative for gout alongside with negative tests for lupus, rheumatoid and bacteria/infection through blood work i am left undiagnosed. It seems that the doctor is not overly concerned that this is serious as he has referred me to a rheumatologist that i will be unable to be seen by for two to three months.
Avatar m tn I am 40 years old and moderate activity , The pain in the left knee is not severe but the pain in the right knee is . Actully pain in the left knee is almost gone .I can take 40 mg of indocin and the pain subsides but when it comes back its just as bad , I am trying to get into a orto again but its a waiting list over 2 months and this is really starting to affect me , Is it ok to keep taking the indocin like this till I can get someone to look at this ?
Avatar n tn Have the possibility of the original knee swelling being gout and the pain being a kidney stone been addressed? Uric Acid can form kidney stones. Gout can occur in joints other than the big toe. I take Alopurinol to prevent Uric Acid buildup. My knee gets affected more often than my toe. When I have a kidney stone, I get referred pain in my shoulder and radiating up my neck to behind my ear.

Gall Bladder surgery gone wrong, severe back pain which can't be repaired, MRSA what else can go wrong well Gout, last week my knee swelled up really big, I assumed I wrenched it but finally went to the dr.s she drained and luckily sent it for analysis. She was concerned about MRSA in the joint.. Today I went to the dr.s for a recheck on the MRSA and the dr.
Avatar n tn tall, and about 250 pounds (in process of losing weight). He had a gout attack in September on his knee, and it was very painful for him. He went to his doctor and was diagnosed with gout. Since then, he only had one gout-like attack (not painful at all) on the toe next to his big one, and only lasted a couple of hours. He isn't complaining about pain or anything, thankfully.. but I am still worried about gout in general.
Avatar f tn I have been on colchicine since 7/7 and Allopurinol since 7/21. I have alot of pain in my lower back to the back of my Knee and now my fingers are hurting. My question is how long does this last and once i get the gout flareup under control will i still have the milder pain of the arthritis? I am kind of confused about this. Also at the same time -- I am now being treated for high blood pressure because my creatinine is at 1.13.
Avatar m tn And i am surprised of few facts that makes people totally helpless. Knee pain, back pain these are very common today but what is the proper medication of this problem? Thanks for the answers in advance.
Avatar n tn My husband suffered un-necessarily from acute gout attacks and it turns out that it was not going away because of the way it was being treated! He's on two different anti-inflammatories and alpurinol and has not had a single attack since he saw this doctor. The pcp and the podiatrist did NOT know what they were doing!

Avatar n tn If I start it back up today do you think it will help with the gout pain and inflammation? I am taking Ibuprophen and soaking in epsom salts/hot water.
Avatar n tn Acute pain in both ankles and mid-foot area. The pain lays me off from walking for days. The pain is likened to having needles drawn in and out of the effected area. My sergeon believes i am well out of the criteria to have gout as i am 33 male, active and lead a healthy lifestye...... his ideas reach towards mid-foot arthritis? Any possible ideas of what may be causing me these anomynous attacks of pain?
Avatar m tn throbbing pain lower leg for about 2 weeks then it moved to back of my left knee - and its now at the back of my thigh. This discussion is related to SEVERE THROBBING THIGH PAIN.
712802 tn?1274645485 Indocin, which is a very potent NSAID, has often been prescribed for the condition but is can result in very serious GI issues and is not as widely used as it once was. Muscle relaxants should provide little if any relief from the acute pain of gout. Best of luck to your daughter. She is lucky to have such a concerned parent as you. If she has more flares of gout I would suggest she be evaluated by a rheumatologist. I'd be interested in hearing how she is doing.
Avatar n tn i have knee pain in both knees. and it hurts all the time . mainly in my ankles and knees . i just want to know what it could be i.m 24 and over weight by 90lbs. and i just need some relief from the pain . went to the doctor she prescribed nyproxen and therapy but it doesn,t seem to do nothing but make my stomach hurt and my pain in my knees worse when i do the exercises i was told to do by the therapist. please someone help me i am a mom of 3.
107366 tn?1305680375 Anyway, the Allopurinol does not seem to be stopping the attacks. I have had gout twice in my knee in the past two months, several times in my ankles, and now in my wrists. I have Indocin for the inflammation, but all that seems to do is make my stomach upset. I also have Prednisone, but long term use of it causes a whole other set of problems. I'm looking for suggestions on anything else I might be able to do, or any other medication I can talk to my doctor about that might help.
Avatar f tn There are two types of gout - one from uric acid crystals and one from calcium (called psuedogout.) There is an enzyme that your body makes to deal with purines and folks with gout either don't make it or don't make enough. The basic course is to avoid fast weight loss, foods high in purines (there is a website that lists all the foods but the ones that surprised me were oats, beans, fruit and nightshade plants. Give up tomato sauce. bell peppers and eggplant! Geesh!
