1461944 tn?1286027942 You would benefit from a series of exercises that would mobilise the sciatic nerve, without stretching it, thus reducing the hypersensitivity of this nerve. However, this should be carried out with an experienced therapist as irritating an already irritated nerve is a recipe for disaster! exercises to mobilise the nerve should be 100% pain free at all times... otherwise they are counterproductive. A TENS machine may be a good idea for you... in addition to a good rehab program!See....
Avatar n tn Stretching the front and back or your leg to increase the flexibility in your knee. Perform stretching exercises at the end of your workout when your muscles are warm. Stretch the front of your leg in a standing position by bending your knee and raising your foot up toward your backside. Grasp the ankle with your hand to enhance the stretch. Stretch the back of your legs in a seated position with your legs extended on the floor. Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings.
Avatar m tn You can continue this until proper stretching is achieved and till patella balances. Soft tissue therapy and stretching help loosen tight structures. The exact stretch depends upon which muscles are tight. Once pain has resolved then strengthening exercises can be started to prevent the condition from returning. Surgery is also an option.
Avatar f tn I now have pain everyday, it pops, clicks, gives way, locks. The pain can be anywhere from around the knee to the inside. I am an active person and am always on the go. I got hit by a bike a month ago and the popping and clikcing and the giving out has became worse and now I have pain above the shin bone just below my left knee. The doctos said it was soft tissue damage and it will heal within a week but its past over a month now and its worse than ever.
Avatar m tn The pain lasted for more than 2-3 days.. Now the pain from hip has shifted towards my knee and thigh area. The pain is constant and specially in the area behind my knee, and on thighs. And now the pain has again expanded to the ankle area (the joint between feet and leg). I have tried doing exercises and such activities, and had some pain killer medicines as well, but the pain has not decreased. The pain especially increases during nights.
Avatar n tn Mine came on after increasing exercise. Currently, I am stretching it at least once per day, doing some strengthening exercises 2-3 times per week. I also apply ice 1 time per day for about 15 minutes when I need to. You may want to look into stretching exercises if these are overuse injuries due to exercise. Also, may want to look into some rest for a little while, before pain gets more intense, and requires more healing time. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Aqua therapy without pain. But sometimes running in pool would cause pain in the patella. Strength exercises would cause some pain in patella. But not as bad as running. Running would always make it hurt. In that inner/middle part of patella. On Dec 1 ( 5 1/2 months post surgery) He Started doing more intense strength training on his legs to improve the quad muscles. His quads are getting much stronger. His right leg is almost the size of his left.
Avatar n tn I have had extreme knee pain (to the point where I can now barely walk as it is), and I don't know what the problem is. In March 2008, I had an operation to help remove a torn miniscus, and the pain went away after physical therapy. Now it's back (been back for about 5 months), and in BOTH knees now, rather than just one. Went back to the same doctor that did the operation, and he gave me some anti-inflammatories that worked for a week then quit working.
Avatar m tn about 2 and half months back i kinda overstretched my knee during stretching exercises, i felt excruciating pain later, i went to a doctor and he gave me pain killers for 3 weeks, saying its probably not a tear but swelling, will subside with time, since then, it remains, i try to jog and stretch with same condition. at times , it increases and at times, it doesnt. at times, when knee turns at an angle, it gives a giving away feeling, with pain, wonder what should i do?
Avatar n tn I can put all my weight on it now, however it occationally gives off a crack/pop sound when I do. Today, for the first time, I felt a shooting pain from the left side of my knee cap up into my inner thigh. To top it off, I have a bad habbit of rubbing my feet together while I sleep, and I frequently wake up with an inflamed knee, with burning sensations. How long should this puppy take to heal? Should I be worried and go see a doctor? So far I have taken no medications.
Avatar m tn During therapy the knee pain has gone away but the therapist has conducted range of motion exercises in her hips and discovered during an exercise where my daughter is lying on her back and the therapist brings either knee up and across her chest, she has serious pain in her hip joint area. The therapist has recommended a orthopedic hip specialist will fix her problem. does anyone have an idea what the specialist might determine what issues my daughter may have with her hips?
Avatar m tn Ugh, that's a long time to have bursitis. I have, however, heard of it taking up to a year to get fully better. You should be at that point, right? hope so! What do you do to treat the bursitis (or did you do)? I know it is not feasible for everyone but a physical therapist would be great to see as they can help guide you on what types of exercise are best for your personal situation. But either way, stretching is important for all with bursitis no matter its location.
Avatar m tn Hold this position for around 20 seconds with each leg and repeat 2-3 times for maximum stretching and pain relief. Lying Down Quadriceps Stretch You notice that many of these stretches focus on loosening up tight leg muscles, and that’s because they’re all connected to your back. So when you loosen up leg muscles through stretching, you’ll start to feel your back loosening up.
Avatar f tn Aw, I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. I, too, have chronic pain and have had it for over 20 years. I won't lie to you and say it'll get any better, unless you're on some awesome pain meds, of course, or you get that miracle blessing of it totally disappearing!
Avatar m tn sudden knee pain during pt and continued pain interior medial aspect. medic took xrays - all ok. Soft tissue issues. therapist can feel the popping of (muscle, ligament, tendon???) during flexion and extension. It feels like something has to pop over something else for leg to straighten. It hurts when it does. Occurs during weight-beating and non weight bearing. Therapist says muscle may be increasing in bulk but not stretching out causing other soft tissues??? to have to pop over them.

8171031 tn?1399327634 It usually feels like growing pains in my knee and sometimes up my thighs. I have tried lying in left side and right side and my back and no position really helps relieve it. Are there any exercises or things I can do to help get the blood flowing and lessen the pain? It wakes me up a lot, I havent had more than four hours sleep in a while.
Avatar f tn From your flat back position, bend one knee to a 90 degree angle while keeping your foot on the floor Allow your knee to “fall” gently to the opposite side of your body, letting your hips twist Rest your foot on the floor for support and try to keep your back and hips flat on the floor Repeat on both sides for 10-20 seconds Pretzel Stretch This stretch is excellent for releasing tension in your buttocks and pelvic floor.
Avatar m tn Things got a little better, I got alot bored with the exercises, and finally just stopped. Now, my ankle pain is back - so is knee pain, and heaven help me when I 1st get up in the morning or after sitting in the recliner for any length of time - I can barely walk! I know I need to go back to the dr, but I don't want him to order physical therapy (costs to much and is not permanent). What are my other options? A brace/boot at night? some type of surgery?
Avatar n tn It did not, and I began to experience pain within the knee joint after a a few months due to bone-on-bone contact. I had a total knee replacement and recovered well from the surgery (March 2009). However, the ITB problem persists and flares up with rather short walks or bike rides. My orthopedic surgeon says that any surgical approach (such as Z-plasty) is contra-indicated after a TKR. Is that the general opinion?
Avatar f tn Since about 3 weeks I have severe pain on the back of my knee ( left leg), it hurts mostly when walking. Especially after sitting a while, If Advil don't help to ease the pain. I'm not a sports person have not done anything out of the ordinary. the muscle on my calves are very tight and sometimes cramp. I have done a ultrasound to rule out a blood clot. Fortunately nothing was found. Thank you for any response. I do stretch sometimes, put heat on.
Avatar f tn m reading online, I see to rest it and discontinue any activity that aggravates the knee or causes pain. I was curious whether I should be using crutches or not, I just don't want to make it worse. The orthopedic didn't say anything about it, and just gave me a NSAID cream to put on it for the swelling and what-not.
Avatar m tn Just motions like making a bed or vacuuming, even putting or taking the dishes out of the dishwasher will send me into excruciating pain. Like you only sitting down or stretching out will at times help the pain to subside. Mine also radiates down my right leg. Which they have diagnosed as lliotibial Band Syndrome. I have only had xrays on my tailbone which showed some sort of spurring. I have never gotten a good answer as to what that means.
Avatar f tn I have the same issue with my Right leg, cannot bring it over to put my socks on without it feeling like it is tearing in the inner thight area, have to bend over with leg straight to get socks on..ive tried stretching exercises but they havent helped.
