Avatar f tn When I was in physical therapy for my back, all I did was core exercises and walking. It all helped my back. Absolutely there was some pain, and when there is pain it is normally time to stop. Check with your doctor who can then send you to a physical therapist and they can put you on the right program to a healthier back.
Avatar n tn Do you have access to a gym? Or is this for at home exercises without any equipment?
Avatar f tn A good thing to do for your knee is doing some simple exercises. When your sitting down, pull your legs up and flex your thigh muscles, this will help strengthen the muscles around your knee. And also doing some water exercices, with the warm weather, it is a safer alternative than low impact aerobics and you won't even notice your exercising! We here understand the pain of arthritis, I hoped this info helped some.

Avatar m tn Hi, I have "calcified meniscus" on my right knee. I have constant pain on it. About a year ago, the doctor said my condition does not require surgery. Avatar n tn Try to reduce your workouts as pain may persist so long the maintaining factor is present.Your knee problem further adds to your pain,so be cautious. To relieve the pain you can apply some topical drugs like voltaren emulgel and take acetaminophen if required.Consult a orthopedic surgeon if there is no significant relief. All the best.

Avatar f tn what is a safe exercises as i have had a right knee replacement will need the left done in the few years and have four bulging discs in my lower spine plus a a trapped nerve on the left hand side due to a narrowing in my tail bone.
Avatar n tn d recommend is seeing a physical therapist who can show you tons of core building exercises, as well as exercises to strengthen your knee and the muscles around it. Or you can go to a gym and get a personal trainer to show you. Or go on You Tube. Or wait for someone here to mention a thousand exercises, because there are literally thousands of different exercises to work on different parts of your core, not that working on your core has proven to be all that beneficial.

Avatar f tn After work I have a Tai Chi Class and a water aerobics class - they both meet twice a week on opposite days. If I feel inclined I also swim laps before aerobics. Then on the weekend I do absolutely nothing! I turn into a couch potato. I have a wonderful support network of coworkers encouraging me to be active and that helps a lot. The only thing I am missing is a cardio workout, which I hesitate to do because tht would cause me to overheat.
Avatar f tn But now, as of a few weeks ago, a different knee pain has occurred. The other pain behind the knee was gone (I had all of the symptoms of an ACL tear, but an MRI said nothing was wrong other than the previous damage from the MVA). Now the knee pain is so bad that I can barely walk, and have to walk keeping my leg straight, because it hurts so bad to lift it. And five days ago, now if I sit for too long, I can't straighten my leg again.
Avatar f tn For the quickest result, select activities with the highest calorie burning potential. For example, high-impact aerobics burns 511 calories an hour for a 160-lb. person and jumping rope burns 730 calories an hour, according to MayoClinic.com. Tae Kwon Do burns 730 calories an hour and swimming laps burns 511 calories an hour. Using an exercise ball makes strength training more difficult. Avatar f tn ll feel this stretch in your quad muscles along the front of your thigh. If it causes knee pain, stop. First, balance on your left foot. Bend your right knee, raising your ankle to your hand. Grab hold of your ankle, pulling your foot towards your butt to deepen the stretch. Hold 15 to 30 seconds. Repeat 2 to 4 times for each leg. If you can’t reach your foot Loop a towel around your ankle to extend your reach.
Avatar f tn Years ago I did Weight Watchers from the computer and lost 25 pounds. A lot has happen since then. My thyroid was removed, I have osteoarthritis in both knees and can't stand for more than 2 minutes or walk more than 3 minutes without a cane or a grocery cart to lean on, and I have a pool that I can't swim in because I can't kick. I need to loose 45 pounds before the doctor will consider knee replacement. I have no idea what to do and where to start. Any suggestions?
1292438 tn?1276120904 Keep doing cardiovascular exercise like walking, jogging, aerobics, cycling etc along with few abdominal exercises as well. It increases metabolism and burn calories. Calculated weight training will also help. Good luck.
Avatar f tn To get in some cardio exercise, go rollerblading or running with some friends, bike to and from school, sign up for tennis lessons, take a high-impact aerobics class at the gym or play a dance video game. Fast-paced exercises such as running tend to burn more fat calories than do moderate-intensity exercises such as walking. However, you may burn out faster if you do only high-intensity exercise, so aim for a balance of the two.
Avatar f tn I would suggest resting the knee till the pain and swelling settle. Ice-packs and NSAIDS may also be helpful for relief. After that I would advice seeing a physiotherapist for exercises that would strengthen you hamstrings. You may also consult with your doctor if you would be required to wear a knee brace. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn Bend your lead knee to drop your back knee toward the floor. Extend your lead knee to come back up. Switch legs after you’re finished with the set. Prepare for step-ups by standing and facing a bench. Set one foot completely atop the bench or use a box and then drive off that leg to raise your body up onto the box / bench. Keep your initial foot on the box / bench as you lower back to the floor and then repeat, switching legs only when you’re finished with the set.
Avatar f tn aerobics, balance, strength, and yoga...you can pick what works for you as you please. I do the low-key aerobics and the balance exercises primarily, although lately, I've cracked open a few yoga poses, too. Finally, it will keep in track weight wise because it tells you your BMI and tracks it for you. I LOVE this thing.
Avatar f tn All of these exercises should be done slowly and should not cause pain. Range of motion exercises are usually initiated as soon as the swelling and pain allow within the first few days after an injury. you can resume other forms of aerobic exercise. Swimming is one form of aerobic exercise that does not require weight bearing. Rowing is another aerobic exercise that may be possible. You may also be able to use a stationary cycle.
Avatar f tn I do notice however that I get sever pain in my right leg and especially knee region when I exercise. My left leg is perfect. It can be extremely painful. Is this normal? Does anyone experience this? When I exercise and start having this pain, should I continue or stop?
Avatar n tn One would need to initially do this with exercises like swimming, aerobics etc that uniformly tone the body; before one can take up exercises that work specifically around the abdomen region like ab-crunches, leg lifts, side-crunches etc. You may like to join a gym or aerobics for the same. It is also essential to rotate between various exercise regimens like swimming, biking, jogging, aerobics etc.
405614 tn?1329144114 I had been doing aquatic exercises after a knee replacement and exacerbated back pain but got distracted during the summer. I went back two weeks ago. Boy did that warm water feel good on my joints and allow me to move around easy. An hour later.......I climb the steps to exit the pool and have to hug the wall to stay standing! I was pretty sure at that point that my MS evaluation was going to end with a diagnosis.
