Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain during squats

knee-pain

Avatar m tn When I landed, i felt a sharp pain in the middle of my left knee. I did not feel any popping, just a very sharp pain right behidn the patella. I didn't think anything of it that day, and it never bruised or swelled. I laid off the knee for the remainder of the week, but when i started lifting the next week, anything that put stress on the knee hurt. Squats, Legpress, Deadlifts, they all hurt right at the middle of the knee behind the patella.
Avatar m tn About 5 weeks ago I was trying to do rapid-squats without any warm up (yes, stupid, I know), and got this really sharp pain in my right knee, kind of under the kneecap - in the muscle area of my right leg I've been trying to not run at all to aggravate it, and trying to keep it straight, but I'm still taking walks on it. The pain has gotten a lot better, and it's only painful when I squat, kneel or bend my legs (the least painful).
Avatar f tn But then up and pain subsided. Possibly knee cap moved back in place. Now then in morning knee lil swollen, pain when walking, no bending or squatting which would lead my proffessional opinion to be you over streched tendons, possibly a slight tear. Use an ice pack for 2 days twice a day 30 mins each. No more weights till Friday. If everything returns to normal leave the squats out for an additional week. However by this Friday if knee is still the same, go see family doctor.
Avatar n tn I am just wondering how long it could take for a quad muscle to heal from a direct blow but with no bruising and if the weakness in the VMO muscle could cause my knee to pop and IT band to snap at times and cause pain in my pes anserine bursa. I did see a orthopedic who said he is not sure. X-rays were negative but I have a high deductable insurance so I am trying not to get an MRI.
Avatar m tn Foam rolling and wearing a knee sleeve helps me a lot when lifting heavy weights, as it makes me feel almost no pain even when doing, for example, squats or similar exercises. In the last week or so, I noticed that my left knee got a bit swollen. It feels tender to touch, as if it's filled with a liquid. (This is not the first time that this has happened) I feel no pain in the knee however, and I have full range of motion.

Avatar m tn I have had knee pain since I was a kid. I am 20, and I have been a swimmer up until last year. I believe it may come down to more than one cause, but I will leave that up to the professionals to decide. Bascially, I have alot of pain around my pattella when squatting past 30 degrees. I believe it is in part due to patellar mistracking. I have been working on flexibility in my hamstrings and quads, as well as strengthening my VMO, since it is weaker than the outer quad muscles.
2063301 tn?1343833074 I started going to the gym around 2 months back and my trainer got me started on a high intensity of squats, steppers and abdomen related exercise such as squats and sit ups. And after about 2 months I developed a back and knee ache. My left knee hurts whenever I climb stairs or stand up from a sitting position but that pain is much more better than before.

Avatar f tn Squats helps bring baby down and get them more engaged but they also can help do that during labor... i did squats for 2 days (only 10-15 per day) and it had my legs hurting so bad that I quit because if I did go into labor I didn't want my legs to be that sore! Lol so I'd recommend getting a birthing ball. You should be able to get one at walmart for about $5! Plus more people have had success with a birthing ball than by song squats, and with less pain/soreness!
Avatar m tn 3 years ago I had Microfracture done on the my left knee. In May of this year I had OATS done on the same knee. What was found was a full-thickness (bone on bone) tear in my medial femoral condyle about the size of a dime I believe or some where around there. I'm on 37 so any thoughts of knee replacement were immediately rejected. I went through 8 weeks of non-weight bearing and physical therapy and now doing everything on my own.
Avatar f tn Lateral lunges, front lunges, half squats, leg press, lateral step ups, knee extension (90-40 degrees), hamstring curls, hip adduction and abduction, hip flexion and extension, toe raises, try all of these under an instructor. I would suggest you to apply ice packs regularly to decrease the pain and inflammation and take intermittent pain killers and go for an MRI and also a second opinion. Take care!
Avatar f tn anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy 2x week for 5 months, exercises at home (or bike or swim) and cortisone injection. PT was extensive but worsened the pain: I did taping, dry needling, and ultrasound with hot and cold but all those PT things really hurt and worsened the pain. I don’t do any heavy exercises like squats but pain occurs from walking, resting, stairs, driving. I am seeing a second opinion tomorrow who does specialize in lateral release.

Avatar n tn There is a band of tissue that starts at your hips and runs outside of your thigh down to your knee and is meant to provide stability to the knee during movement. This can cause pain like you describe. Here's information on it.https://www.webmd.com/pain-management/it-band-syndrome#1. Tingling or anything like that? You could also have a nerve issue.
Avatar n tn Do you mean doing squats relieved you sciatica pain? It didn't hurt to tighten your glutes? Was your pain in the glute area?

(no knee pain during a month where I was bed ridden due to unrelated illness). WEIGHT: healthy PAIN IN OTHER AREAS OF BODY: Hips and glute med ( I have been working on hip flexibility, glute max strength and rolling hips, glutes, quads and IT band in hopes of helping my knees.
Avatar f tn First, there's a limit to how much you can change the basic shape nature gave you. Some of us just have bigger body parts than others. So the question is whether the size issue is due to fat, in which case you'd probably have excess fat in other places as well, especially the belly and thighs, or just due to your anatomy.
Avatar n tn Do you have access to a gym? Or is this for at home exercises without any equipment?
Avatar f tn t do lunges because it caused severe pain. Then a trainer showed me how to put my foot on a slippery disc and move it that way. Pain is gone.

Avatar f tn I have been doing Crossfit for 2 months now and have crepitus, along with minimal swelling and pain with weight bearing during my squats. Extension ,stretching ,running and jumping never causes pain, only when squatting. My primary physician is treating me with Mobic( anit-inflammatory) ,Glucosamine daily and cold compresses nightly. All this helps, but pain is still there along with pain and swelling returning daily. Ive become irritated with the problem now...ready for a change.
Avatar n tn Have a day of rest in between each one so that your glute muscles get to fully heal. Include squats, split squats and step-ups into your weight-training workout, as each are effective at targeting your major butt muscle. Perform three to five sets of eight to 20 reps of each glute exercise you include in your workout. This type of exercise will help size gains because it is effective at overloading your muscle fibers. Rest 30 to 90 seconds in between each set.
