1961313 tn?1326290364 I have problems with my knees, just general stiffness-but one day I had to get down on my right knee and the pain was extreme,it wasn't necessarily in the knee but to the right side of the knee,it felt like the skin was splitting into,I look and the skin looked fine,so I don't know if it's the tendon or the muscle what ever it is,is very painful,in fact I can't get down on my knees any longer
Avatar f tn So as you can see, arthritis can cause an overall knee pain. Ligament injury causes pain to worsen on walking, bending and stretching the knee. Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint.
Avatar n tn Bending knee after putting weight on it often causes painless popping/clicking noises. Bending it with weight still applied causes louder clicking/popping. I have to be standing on it for a few minutes before it starts happening, like when you're brushing your teeth or standing in the shower. The clicking seems to be closest to the lateral posterior outside of the left knee, near the upper calf. Possibly meniscus related. A couple months ago I injured my left knee doing lunges.
Avatar m tn i cant do a straight leg raise or bend the knee with out excruciating pain and lots of effort if i can.
Avatar f tn m reading online, I see to rest it and discontinue any activity that aggravates the knee or causes pain. I was curious whether I should be using crutches or not, I just don't want to make it worse. The orthopedic didn't say anything about it, and just gave me a NSAID cream to put on it for the swelling and what-not.

Avatar m tn Is the pain under your knee cap or tendon? From what you are saying it sounds like your saying under your knee cap. You could have patellofemoral syndrome; very common for cyclists (read your bio). Try this website. http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_patellod_sma.
1176841 tn?1330832460 He examined both my knees - right knee is the replaced one, he said I had an inflamed tendon in front of my knee I believe he used the word Patella Tendon. The left knee same there but I also had a bursa. He gave me an cortisone injection in both and I am to go back in a week to see what is happening. The thing is I am not a runner, dancer, gymnast just an ordinary person somewhat limited due to a neck fusion from C3-T1. So I am not sure what is causing all my tendons to be inflamed.
Avatar f tn i had total knee replacement in may.2009.but still i get pain and feeling of heaviness in knees more in right knee in night during sleep .i can walk for about half KM or so comfortably.please advise.
Avatar f tn But do you think the pain i have thought was arthritus could actually be pain from having a patellar tendon rupture? If i was to have surgery to realign my patellar would that get rid of the crepitus? Thanks again.
Avatar m tn Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. Pain worsens on walking. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint. You will need X-rays and MRIs of the knee to find the exact. Treatment will follow correct diagnosis. Do consult your orthopedic specialist at the earliest. Meanwhile do not bear weight on that leg, give it rest, apply ice pack, and take an anti-inflammatory pain killer. Take care!
Avatar m tn Hi, I have pain in the tibia of my left leg, which I think is below the knee cap. The pain started when I was 18, after I got an injury during a basketball game. Now I'm 20 and I still feel the pain only when I engage in physical activity. What's wrong with me. Could these by osgood schlatters disease?
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Knee pain is a very common symptom which can occur due to a variety of causes like arthritis, fractures, ligament tears, meniscal tears, chondromalacia, sciatica etc. Proper evaluation will help in making diagnosis. An X-ray would help in revealing any fractures or ligament tears. With the symptoms that you have mentioned, I feel it is a case of damage to the knee joint due to over use.
325007 tn?1352560645 Since the surgery I have intermittent pain behind my knee. I believe it is the hamstring tendon. The pain is intense after kneeling or squatting. It goes away fairly quickly. What is the best treatment?
4671444 tn?1357794171 It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint. Since you had tendon injury 4 years back, this time too it could be a tendon troubling you. Hopefully the MRI will explain the cause of your pain. Meanwhile please rest your knee and avoid weight on it. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn From researching online, i have read that about 80% of people who have IM nailing done complain of knee pain, which is usually due to the incision that surgeons make through the patella tendon in order to put the nail in. Sometimes it causes damage to the tendon, therefore causing anterior knee pain. However if this was my problem, then surely i would get the pain in my tendon all the time? And the MRI shows it is compeltely normal.
Avatar f tn The same muscle (quadriceps) that causes the knee to be straight (extend) causes the hip to bend (flex). When in a long leg cast, it’s only the movement at the knee joint that would not be possible to evaluate; however the ability to raise the leg when straight/ flex the hip can be tested, to evaluate the function of the muscle/ tendon. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn Ankle went and I fell onto my left knee. People with me were more worried about my knee but most pain was in the ankle at the time so I was completely unconcerned by the knee. I got up and walked to my meeting, then went to a doctor who briefly glanced at my knee and gave it the all clear, and diagnosed a sprain in my ankle. Five weeks later an xray showed a fracture to my right ankle (lateral malleolus).
Avatar f tn Pain in the back of the knee can be caused by arthritis or Bakers cysts (cystic accumulation of synovial fluid, also causes a swelling). So as you can see, arthritis can cause an overall knee pain. Ligament injury causes pain to worsen on walking, bending and stretching the knee. Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint.
Avatar n tn Doctors call the outside of the knee the lateral side of the knee. There are several common causes for pain in this area that vary by age and activity level. Once the source of the lateral knee pain is identified, it usually can be eliminated or decreased.
Avatar m tn I have been having knee troubles since mid november of last year. The pain came up about two weeks after basketball had started and it hasn't gotten much better or worse to this day. The pain comes when I jump, squat, lunge, etc. which causes playing basketkball very difficult. The pain is worst directly on my kneecap.
Avatar m tn I'm in the military and am suffering from right knee pain in the patellar tendon area. I have had a PRP injection in the tendon and still suffer from the pain which seems to be worse after having the injection. I have also had physical therapy which did nothing to relieve my pain.
Avatar m tn Anyways, it hurts to bend the knee and walking up and down stairs causes slight pain as well. Any insight on the problem is appreciated. Thanks for your time!
Avatar f tn First you have to find out whether the muscle wasting was the cause or the effect of knee locking or knee pain. Generally weakness of the inner thigh muscles and tightness of the outer thigh muscles causes the knee cap to move from its place and cause knee pain and knee locking. This could have happened in your case if you have a localized muscle wasting only.
Avatar f tn I HAVE MY KNEE OPERATED 6 WEEKS AGO BECAUSE OF RAPTURED TENDON. I JUST WANT TO ASK F THEIR IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IT WOULD RAPTURE AGAIN?
Avatar m tn I have recently been diagnosed with a tendon tear in my knee, and more specifically the patellar tendon, the doctor said he does not want to do surgery due to the 6 to 12 month rehab time with this procedure and since it is not completely torn, but without surgery it looks like i will not be 100 percent again and get back my capabilities.
Avatar n tn The bone which you refer as knee cap is called patella and is a sesamoid (bone inside a tendon) bone of the tendon quadriceps. The front of thigh has four muscles and it is referred as quadriceps and it contains a bone inside the tendon called patella or sesamoid bone. Normally the bone is inside the tendon but when there is some wear or tear or arthritis or some anatomical defect it is attached to femur like patello femoral arthritis.
