Avatar f tn But, I got permanent swelling from last 3 weeks and pain also. Pain is in my lower and upper part of knee. I tried cooling and hot cycle belt of wrap but still pain exists. This all started from nov 07. I never had injury with my knees. Completed my blood test and routine check up in January 08 but everything is normal. I never had consultation with my knees.
Avatar m tn You can have arthritis at young age and when the joint cartilage is lost then you would need total knee replacement. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hi, at this age the cause of knee pain are arthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, bursitis etc. As you don't have history of recent trauma, it is unlikely to be ligament or meniscus tear. Investigations like MRI, blood tests like ESR, RF, ANA etc are done to find out causes related to autoimmune diseases. Try cold compression, crepe bandage and pain killers like diclofenac etc.
Avatar f tn My first knee replacement was in 2002. Second one was in 2003 (on the other knee). For a number of years now I have had pain in my "knees". Even the tissue surrounding them. I've noticed that I can hear the prosthesis move when I move my leg. I swing my legs and they make a funny noise. Today I went to an orthopaedic surgeon about another (unrelated) problem and asked him about the pain in my knees.
Avatar m tn My mother is 58 years of age. She has pain in her left knee for almost last one year and this leg is swollen for same period. We consulted various doctors (including ortho.) but there is no improvement. X-ray was done and she has been treated by doctors for crack in skin and infection, but there is no improvement. She can not put her full weight on right leg and can not move on stairs. There is small history of one injury in her legs.
Avatar m tn Anyways, it hurts to bend the knee and walking up and down stairs causes slight pain as well. Any insight on the problem is appreciated. Thanks for your time!
Avatar m tn I have had pain behind my knee for almost a year now. I had a meniscal tear taken care of last June and I was told it would also take care of the ganglion cyst that had developed. 6 weeks after the surgery I was still having the pain and discomfort behind my knee. I experience increased tightness and pain with exercise....the more I use it the less I am able to do. Even walking causes discomfort. I am not able to pick up my foot and move it back as if trying to touch my butt with my foot.
Avatar m tn -) The old age pain was fixed by getting a new hip. The MS pain is not so easy to fix. I don't know whether this is good news or bad, but MS pain doesn't jump around. The nature of MS is that it attacks individual locations in the central nervous system, rather than systemically attacking the entire central nervous system. As such, the neuropathic pain caused by MS tends to be related to the specific nerve pathway that controls its pain center. In my case it's my left foot.
Avatar n tn Doctors call the outside of the knee the lateral side of the knee. There are several common causes for pain in this area that vary by age and activity level. Once the source of the lateral knee pain is identified, it usually can be eliminated or decreased.
Avatar m tn I appreciate your concerns about your grandmother and I agree that the pain needs to be investigated. Usually knee locking and pain after total knee replacement is due to formation of fibrous tissue around the patella. Rarely, it is due to blocked or pinched popliteal artery that runs along the back of knee.

Avatar f tn So as you can see, arthritis can cause an overall knee pain. Ligament injury causes pain to worsen on walking, bending and stretching the knee. Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint.
1961313 tn?1326290364 I have problems with my knees, just general stiffness-but one day I had to get down on my right knee and the pain was extreme,it wasn't necessarily in the knee but to the right side of the knee,it felt like the skin was splitting into,I look and the skin looked fine,so I don't know if it's the tendon or the muscle what ever it is,is very painful,in fact I can't get down on my knees any longer
Avatar m tn I agree that there are multiple causes of knee and back pain. I will offer what I have learned about knee and back pain. Degenerative diseases like Degenerative Disc Disease of the back and Degenerative Joint Disease can lead to arthritis. Arthritis is an inflamation and degeneration is a tearing down so to speak of parts of a joint, When the lining of the knee joint becomes inflamed it is sinovitis and this can become an arthritic joint..
Avatar n tn I'm a 57 y/o female, weight is 225. I had a pre-op ekg for minor surgery on my knee. The EKG came back as abnormal, possible inferior wall infarct, age-untermined. Surgery has been cancelled because of this report. I have a history of high blood pressure which is normally in control with my medications. I don't recall ever having any type of serious chest pain in the past.
Avatar n tn what would make my leg spasm at the thigh and behind the knee? It happens mainly at night while laying in bed.

Avatar f tn I cannot slide on my knee without it popping and locking in a way I can beat describe as my knee getting stuck closed to the point where I have to squeeze it as tightly closed as possible. The pain is 10/10 and I can only unlocking it by hanging my knee over my other leg while lying on my stomach relieving pressure on the outside of the knee. This all started beginning when I injured my knee sliding on wet grass my cleat got stuck and twisted my ankle.
Avatar n tn what is the average length of rehab therapy after total knee replacement? This discussion is related to On-going Pain after Knee replacement surgery.
Avatar f tn Hi! Everyone I started getting pain in the lower left side of my stomach and left knee last night, I woke up with said pain and it hasn't stop as of yet,HELP PLEASE.....
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Knee pain is a very common symptom which can occur due to a variety of causes like arthritis, fractures, ligament tears, meniscal tears, chondromalacia, sciatica etc. Proper evaluation will help in making diagnosis. An X-ray would help in revealing any fractures or ligament tears. With the symptoms that you have mentioned, I feel it is a case of damage to the knee joint due to over use.
Avatar f tn After having a mri my dr said he couldnt see anything but the pain kept getting worse and decided to scope my knee. He discovered that I had no cartlige and it was completely eaten up with arthritis among other things. I was told I needed a knee replacement but didnt want to do it at my age. I was wondering if there was anyone who has had one at an early age because I would like my quality of life now due to the fact that I have 3 kids who need me now more than at age 60.
Avatar n tn My 5 years old daughter has severe pain(cramp like) behind the knee for 4-6 seconds, then relieve for 3 secs & then repeat the same scenario few times. All this will be over within about 2mins the most. What I did is to lie her down & push her toes toward her body with her leg flat on the couch. Just like how I do if there is leg cramps. At the same time, I'll put some camphor oil around the knee area & gently rub to keep warm.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm 14. I was rather large and was putting a lot of pressure on my knee through sports, and I fell badly on it at one point. About six months later, I went for an MRI (Jul 2017). The MRI said that there were "incresed signal intensities in the posterior horn of medial mesicus, suggestive of prior injury at this age. There is also probable tear at the posterior medial meniscus root." My knee still causes me trouble and hurts a lot of the time. What would be the right treatment?
Avatar m tn you have to provide more detail info such as your age, when did pain start and which area of the knee? did you have prior injury to this knee? how long have you had this pain. does your knee lockup or buckle? when does this, occur?only when playing soccor or w/other times as well?
Avatar m tn I had a meniscus injury almost 2years ago a tear in left knee due to gym exercise while doing thighs exercise and from that time I was exercising my legs and their was no more pain after nearly 8 month , just yesterday I did the same movement once again and I hearted a pop in the same knee and a little pain with a bending movement in the same place after examining it by my self by pressing on the spot is it possible that the tear had happened once again ...
