Knee pain after meniscus surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain after meniscus surgery

knee-pain

I had a torn meniscus surgically repaired 2 weeks ago and continue to have swelling around the knee. I have iced the knee everyday, used one crutch since the surgery and have reduced my workload by 80%. I have basically been resting, icing my knee and as of today the knee is swollen to the point where I cannot bend it. In addition, the knee is "hot" in the area, which would tell me there is some sort of infection.
I had my left knee operated on for meniscus surgery on 4-11-2011. Doctor said 4-6 weeks recovery. I went to PT, and was still out for 11 weeks. I work in a 4 star hotel as a turndown attendant. I push a cart that weighs about 180 lbs. My knees are buckling, and my left knee is swollen. I am always in pain!! I find it very hard to do my job. I am going to see my regular Doctor this monday. See what he says. Am i always going to have this pain? I was better off before the surgery!!
Knee brace or no brace???? I had a large horizontal medial meniscus tear that went from the posterior horn to the body. They did a partial meniscectomy and said I had a little arthritis as well. I just had this done a week ago. Seem to be doing ok for the most part or I guess as expected for being 41 years old. I don't play sports other than backyard activities with my sons. I do however drag race and its a stick car. Naturally its my clutch leg that was operated on.
I have had three surgeries on my left knee, starting with an ACL reconstruction and medial meniscus repair my freshman year of high school, a lateral and medial meniscectomy my senior year of high school, and I just recently had the same surgery, a lateral and medial meniscectomy this past January, 2010.
- I have undergone ACL reconstruction surgery of right knee on 21st May,2010. Even after my surgery I feel pain when I bend my knee or when I walk. The pain is distributed over the entire crossection of the knee. But recently on 12th feb,2012 my right knee has started paining again. I am not able to walk. Even if I try to walk, I feel instability. My leg becomes stiff when I keep it straight for around 30 min.
knee pain, knee, Chiropractor, meniscus, Meniscus tears, chondromalacia, Chondromalacia patella, surgery, orthopadic I think this injury began at work, under a cublicle, while hooking up a computer. I felt what was discomfort in my knee but ingnored it as it was a busy crazy day. About a week later, my knee really gave out on me.

I had meniscus surgery 3 months ago and since then my knee has been drained twice 50 cc removed the fisrt time then a month later 40 cc's. After the second time 3 days later the swelling was back just as bad if not more. I can bend and I have pain when walking due to the sweeling. Any answer as to why this is happening would be appreciated. I'm also going to physical therapy3 times a week and ice it everyday.
14 days after artho meniscus surgery I have developed a hematoma. Dr. says it is probably from the fluid used during surgery. Very bad cramp between the back of the knee to mid calf and also swelling. No blood clot shown in the Doppler. What should I do for pain? How to help the swelling - heat or ice? Leg up? Not sure what to do to correct the pain and swelling. Stockings??? How will activity affect this issue?
Well… one day I was playing flag football and this guy rolled on my knee and ankle. The pain was bad in my knee and ankle so I had an MRI done. I didn’t have a limp or no brace when I went to see the doctor and he told me that I have a torn ACL and meniscus. The Doctor said that since you’re not limping the ACL tear must have been awhile ago. I schedule surgery on June 3rd and I don’t have any locking, my knee doesn’t give out at all.
My daughter is a competitive gymnast that has just been diagnosed with a stress fracture and meniscus tear in her right knee. The doctor wants to do surgery to repair the meniscus. We are going for a second opinion and I want to be able to know more about this tear, surgery, recovery time etc.... Can anyone help me? If her pain in only coming from the stress fracture and not the tear, is it imperative that we have the surgery done? If the surgery is done, is it possible that it doesn't work?
I've suffered for almost 2 yrs with pain in right knee. Had surgery for a medial meniscus tear. Physical therapy before and after surgery. had synvisc injection, cortizone, and a partridge in a pear tree. When will my knee stop hurting every time I have a slight twist or turn of the knee? Is it normal to still have pain after 5 mos.? I'ts not as bad as it was, but I do have some pain.
I have been suffering with a swollen knee for three months after arthroscopic knee surgery a year prior. Even with an NSAID in me (Mobic) the pain was terrible, radiating into my hip and all the way down into my ankle too. My wife called a local chiropractor and he recomended that I put Castor oil on the knee, then wrap it with an old flannel cloth, then an ace bandage (taught) over the flannel. Well, I tell you, it was like a miracle happened.
this summer again, I started having the same pattern of pain even after 1 mile of fast walking. I was able to see a knee specialist, and after an MRI, they found the following: Full Thickness vertical tear of the red-white junction of the posterior Horn of Medial meniscus. There is no free fragment, bucket handle or secondary osteoarthridis.
Injured knee a couple years ago. After putting up with the pain, finally went to ortho when Baker's cyst developed. He suspects torn meniscus, but it did not show on the MRI. PT and cortisone shot did not help. He wants to scope the knee and clean it out. Most days the knee is uncomfortable to walk on, but some days I can barely put weight on it, usually after being on it for more than a couple hours.
It sounds like your surgeon is describing osteonecrosis. There is an entity known as "spontaneous onsteonecrosis of the knee." or "SPONK" This occurs rarely after knee after knee arthroscopy and can resolve after a period of rest and non-weight bearing. I t is not usually a reult of swelling. If anything, two weeks may be to soon to expect any change, either positive or negative, and often 6 weeks is used before re-evaluation.
Sometimes it will heal on its own, sometimes it requires arthroscopic surgery, but they have you up walking right after surgery and it is not as painful as you would think. Take care and good luck.
We were hopeful this would work but it's been 3 weeks and he still complains of pain under his knee cap. We are in a rural area and none of the Dr's have ever seen this injury in a kid this age. I'm not crazy about surgery but it doesn't seem to be healing on its own. Should I keep him in this leg brace for 3 more weeks or take him to a larger area for possible surgery.
I have bad arthritis in my knee. My ortho doc (after MRI) says I tore the meniscus but he thinks arthroscopy is a waste of my time and money since I have such thin cartilage. He took all the fluid out and injected me with cortisone earlier today. The pain is unbearable and the swelling is coming back already. Has anyone had torn meniscus with advanced arthritis and had sucess with arthroscopy. He says I am not ready yet for knee replacement.

One week I did not have a race so I decided to jump my training up to 80 miles for that week. After doing it my leg started having some problems and soon enough when I would start a workout my knee felt extremely unstable and like it could not maintain my body weight. I thought it kind of felt like I was running on one strong leg and one stilt leg. I ran like this for a week, then took 2 days off, and then ran my last 5 mile race.
After consulting with him and getting MRI's and X-Rays it was determined that I had some how tore my meniscus so the Orthopedic scheduled corrective surgery to fix the problem. Well the pain in the knee is much worse now and after post op appointments the Dr.
63 year old female had surgery for torn meniscus at the end of August. Still in pain, at times cannot walk without limping. Have a difficult time getting out of a chair. Have been back to the orthopedic doctor and siad it has range of movement ,but if i stub my toe or hit my foot on something, the pain is very severe and it stops me in my tracks. I go back in December. What should be done next. I am at wits end because of the pain. The pain is the same as before the surgery.
