655727 tn?1283296048 I have nerve damage after my 12/31/09 replacement it is so bad I am unable stand the pain of this position. So I guess it just depends on how well your knee works. Research and try to get a knee that does more than Depuy knee.
Avatar n tn Patients do have occasional pain after total knee replacement even if their total knees are healed flawlessly. Pain in the knee after total knee replacement can occur due to knee infection or loosening, resurfaced patella, with effusion in the joint occuring due to worn out polyethylene components, due to damage to the vessels and nerves around the knee etc. In case of infection antibiotics would help. In case of worn out polyethylene components may be reoperation could be considered.
Avatar f tn I hate to read you are suffering. A knee replacement is suppose to improve your function and it does not sound like that has been your experience. Have you talked to your doctor about your symptoms? Has he/she given you any feedback? I have not had a knee replaced but hope someone here who has will write to you. You might also post in the orthopedics forum as I know they talk about joint replacements there as well.
Avatar n tn what is the average length of rehab therapy after total knee replacement? This discussion is related to On-going Pain after Knee replacement surgery.
Avatar f tn I had a knee replacement 8/07 - everything went well. Joined a gym 3/08 and have been diligent with my workouts. A few weeks ago I developed pain on the outside of the replaced joint during the transition between flexing and extending my knee (feels like a tendon/ligament gets "caught" on the joint and then releases). I've been taking NSAIDs and the pain has lessened a bit.
Avatar f tn My first knee replacement was in 2002. Second one was in 2003 (on the other knee). For a number of years now I have had pain in my "knees". Even the tissue surrounding them. I've noticed that I can hear the prosthesis move when I move my leg. I swing my legs and they make a funny noise. Today I went to an orthopaedic surgeon about another (unrelated) problem and asked him about the pain in my knees.
Avatar n tn You sound like me ,except for the lime's disease......I'm going to another Dr. whos specialty is knee replacement at a teaching school. I'll get back to you after I see them.I'm 70 and in good health.
Avatar n tn Your friends doctor should be treating his pain. Pain after surgery can be painful. I would advise calling the doctor back and telling them he is coming in as he is in so much pain! This will allow the doctor to see himself the pain he is in. Did he have his PCP do the sugery or a surgeon? He can also go to the ER and get some help.
Avatar f tn 5 months ago I had bilateral knee replacement, I am having sharp pain behind my right knee. This started about one month back. It usually only happens when i am laying down, but now is happenning when I am sitting. The pain is very sharp wakes me up.Other than this pain I am doing great, but i just want to know if this is just part of the healing process or is there a problem?
Avatar f tn I was told by one position that I could not have a knee replacement unless they did a Fulkerson because my knee was not tracking properly. I now assume he was referring to a partial knee replacement. As I've been referred to a position for total knee replacement because the Fulkerson did not completely resolve my pain and improve my mobility.

Avatar f tn i am 53 years old. i had surgery for torn meniscus in left knee on 10/13/2007, and i have been in pain since. i am currently receiving my 3rd round of synvisc. i have had 3 or 4 cortisone injections, they seemed to be helping but the times in between have gotten shorter. my dr. keeps telling me i'm too young for knee replacement. he tells me it's arthritis, i can't believe it. i am not overweight (147 lbs.), however, before the surgery i weighed 128 lbs.
Avatar n tn leg and was doing so well until last week. Pain started around the knee and a week later after doing the icing, ibuprofen and tylenol with codeine, my pain has escalated to a 9 out of 10 as of last night. It does not appear to be an infection as per my doctor, he just told me to do the above and call if things worsened. I called this morning and nobody can see me until Monday...Just called in stronger pain med. even though have no idea what is going on. What are the possibilities?
Avatar f tn Hi, My name is Erika and I am search for a saver that can help my dad with his knees. He is in pain 20/7 even after his knee’s cortisone infusion. He is 71, very athletic and active. However, now he seems even getting depressed. It is hard for him to walk, stand, seat for longer than 30min. My dad is from Brazil and he lives with me. He has no insurance and we can’t afford out of pocket surgery. I am desperately searching for help.
Avatar f tn I had a partial knee replacement last May, I still have pain soreness at the implant site specifically and STIFFNESS! It is difficult to do any walking around without it swelling for 2-3 days sometime longer. I have a friend who is a physical therapist and said the key is following through with the knee exercises daily the first year and as needed weekly from then on but remember to ice pack the knee following exercise. I am still unable to work at a job that requires walking or standing.
Avatar f tn This would be a difficult question to answer without the relevant clinical details. A knee replacement is not preferred in young patients as the life of a knee replacement around 10-20 years (the newer devices last longer than the older ones). Though knee replacements are usually successful and help in regaining movements around the joint conservative management is preferred due to the risk associated with the replacement surgery and a possible re-replacement surgery.
Avatar m tn The anatomy of knee or knee joint configuration would have changed after the knee fusion surgery to do any sort of surgery after that. Yes I think an orthopedic surgeon experienced in knee replacement after knee fusion could possibly with difficulty could have done it. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar n tn However, when I showed my right knee last month this year I was told that I need full knee replacement. The surgeon recommended Otisknee replacement procedure. Is it possible that my right knee can deteriorate in onr year to have full replacemnt as opposed to partial. What are the reports on Otisknee replacement procedure. What are the pros & cons of partial replacement versus full replacement.
