Knee pain after femur fracture

Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain after femur fracture

knee-pain

Avatar n tn 2 years ago, I crushed the bottom of my femur right at the knee and I have a rod on the femur with 5 screws and 7 screws in my knee. The rod is giving me all kinds of pain, not the knee. What could be causing this? Any suggestions.
Avatar m tn There is no way of telling from here whether it made the fracture worse. I all depends on the fracture itself. When the fracture has sharp edges, it can easily damage surrounding tissue. When the bone parts are still connected (more a crack than a fracture) damage will not be done. Are you sure that the femur was broken? that is the bone between hip and knee, so not in the bottom of the leg! Anyway, I hope your baby recovers quickly, so you both can soon forget this accident.
Avatar n tn I just had surgery yesterday to remove both screws that were inserted 3.5 years ago after a femur fracture. The screws mainly bothered me when they poked into the muscle tissue upon bending, squatting, lunging... any activity where I'd have to bend it/use it. I didn't expect the surgery to be so traumatic or painful. I just had a local anisthetic and the procedure took 1.5 hours rather than the usual 15 mins because the ortho couldn't find the right screwdriver.
Avatar m tn I had the surgery in aug 2012 after a fracture of the femur neck.. Now, 6 months later, I continue to have severe knee pain. I also still have some fluid retention. The doctor said that it was due to atrophy of the thigh muscle but I have been doing leg lifts with 4.5kg on my ankle for 5 months, over 350/day. If anything the pain is worse. any recommedations?
Avatar m tn When I landed, i felt a sharp pain in the middle of my left knee. I did not feel any popping, just a very sharp pain right behidn the patella. I didn't think anything of it that day, and it never bruised or swelled. I laid off the knee for the remainder of the week, but when i started lifting the next week, anything that put stress on the knee hurt. Squats, Legpress, Deadlifts, they all hurt right at the middle of the knee behind the patella.
Avatar m tn during therapy they told me in order for the femur break to heal I needed put all my weight on that fracture. after doing that an hour letter while getting out of the car the pain was so severe on my left thigh severe muscle spasm kept me in the car for over 2 hours. I took flexeral mussel relaxer which made the spam go away. For the femur ask for a device called a bone stimulator.
Avatar m tn Of course, from 7 month before second surgery I had pain, but the doctor said the pain of knee inflammation rather than fracture.( he allowed me to walk as before accident after 14 weeks from surgery , and i think this advise (early weight bearing) made me in trouble again) So, I had surgery again (exchange with a larger nail and bone grafting) , and now after 7 months new x-ray image attached here. my question is about the quality of fracture site after 7 month : union? nonunion?
Avatar n tn And it turned to be atrophic non union so bone graft was done after 14 months, and bone marrow syringe was given for two times after three months of BG.So as still was non union and it turned implant failure fracture after 22 months of bone graft and now again ORIF withDCS985mm,10hole+bone Graft, was done before 5 months. Now still I M in Non weight bearing walk so may be it will healing slowly, god knows.
Avatar m tn I have a quick question: I just broke my femur snowboarding new years eve 2012 (mid break femur snap with a few big pieces floating) and I can't bend my knee past 30 yet. I had my IM surgery (two screws in the hip, one above my knee) on jan 1st (yes New years) and I cant even sit in a chair yet. It's now the 3.5 weeks out and I cant bend my knee yet!
Avatar f tn I've had both my femurs broken and my left one twice my left femur has a plate and 6 screws in it now it use to have a plate and 9 screws until it was broke the second time and I have no problems from it at all no swelling no pain really at all.
Avatar m tn Now the x-ray of knee joint is showing osteoporosis in articular bones femur and tibia. Doctor said it is due to disuse atrophy and adviced PTH injection which is expensive. The bone fragments have not united well till now and this is likely a case of delayed union. I am taking very healthy diet and calcium citrate +vit d supplements. Despite all these the non union is making me feel doubtful of tenofovir being the culprit which I am taking from past 2.5 years. Shall I stop tdf?
Avatar f tn I am a 65 year old woman with osteoarthritis (NOT osteoporosis--have good bone density) in knees and back--otherwise in very good health. I was in an auto accident on June 30, 2009, sitting in the back seat. My knee slammed into the back of the driver's seat. It broke my femur a few inches above my knee replacement, which was put in only 6 months previously. It was a very bad break with fragments and a considerable empty space at the break. Surgery involved placement of a plate and screws.
Avatar n tn I recently took a patient to a dr and he had to have xrays. We had to help hold the leg due to a femur fracture. Without me knowing it, the radiologist quickly snapped the xrays. My husband was alo in the room and we are trying to concieve. The xray was directly on the person's knee and I was to the side of it while my husband was at the other side. What damage could this have done?? Please help!
Avatar n tn I have worn a bone stimulator for a couple months with no results. The pain is on the distal end of the femur on the lateral part of the bone. Almost a year ago the physician and I agreed to having a total knee replacement done thinking that the pain would subside. That was a joke! The pain is still just as bad as day one. I go back to the doctor in April and it doesn't look like it will be good news for him. Now I will have to have surgery on the Left knee joint.
Avatar f tn s not the case, but thats how my knee feels). I had the lesion taken out and my femur filled with bone graft. Is this normal for the type of surgery I had and for my prognosis? I am scheduled to begin physical therapy this week.
Avatar f tn How did they find that your femur was dying?? I have pain in my left knee femur area but when I had cancer they found a bone growth of somekind that they said was not cancer. Bone scans show stablity in that area but more uptake in the T6-7 and rib area on the right side. I have been taking 2000 IU of vit D my drs request. I was taking oxycodone for the pain but that was not effective any longer. Now I am using Lidoderm patches.... (3) a day for pain control.
Avatar f tn t understand why the metalwork has not been removed as I think this might remove the pain. I also broke my femur one month after my mum in a skiing accident. I too had a nail and screws put in which I have just had removed due to it causing me a certain amount of discomfort. I understand how having screws etc in your leg can restrict your movement and cause pain so interested why it's not been offered to my mum.
Avatar f tn Subchondral impaction fracture of the distal lateral femur with additional bone contusion of the proximal lateral tibia.
Avatar m tn I began to get pain in my toe joints, when this occurred, I must have started to compensate for this by putting more stress on my knees. Currently, I have a lot of knee pain, with my left knee hurting much more than my right. However, my right knee also hurts depending on how it is used; additionally, it also cracks (without pain), when I use it.
521391 tn?1322005131 I am diabetic, overweight, and a fool who started smoking again 11 mo. ago. In 2005 I had a compound fracture of my femur. A nail was installed, but the femur still hasn't completely healed. I had sternal movement almost immediately, but by X-ray the wires appear intact. Pain was nominal. Recently the movement has progressed as well as the attendant pain. It feels as if the pain and movement are below the sternum in what feels like semi soft tissue.
Avatar n tn of the body and is common. On a pain scale the the knee is the only pain i am getting and is similar to when the nail was inserted, however i can walk alot easier on crutches and it is only 24 hours post op.
Avatar f tn After breaking my femur,I went through a bunch of surgeries. My right leg ended up being shorter than my left. At first,it didn't bother me but then I started to get a lot of pain in my right heel and left hip. A trip to the orthotics/prosthetics office showed that my right leg was an inch shorter than my left. They built a shoe with the added inch and the pain went away within a day. Hope this helps.
