4671444 tn?1357794171 Meniscii if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint. Since you had tendon injury 4 years back, this time too it could be a tendon troubling you. Hopefully the MRI will explain the cause of your pain. Meanwhile please rest your knee and avoid weight on it. Take care!
5245618 tn?1365687749 Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint. All these (ligament and meniscal injury and tendonitis) can cause referred pain to calf. The other cause for the pain can be compartment syndrome due to injury or inflammation of leg muscles due to over use. The pain is increased on putting the foot on ground and further increase with walking. You will need X-rays and MRIs of the knee to find the exact.

Avatar n tn Ever since then, I have had a bad, achy pain in the right side of my knee on the joint line, especially when standing and I pick my foot up. The worst pain is when I rotate my toes outward with my knee bent. It occasionally hurts when decelerating, and definitely when going down stairs. I got an MRI today and am waiting the results, but does this sound like a tear? I know it's not large since the knee hasn't locked, but I do feel a small pop on that side of my knee when I straighten it.
Avatar m tn But recently I am facing that my knee joint is paining and feeling some noise form last year when I walk or stand for some while. But I do not lift heavy weight things or carry. I have visited number of doctors but all of them suggested calcium 500 mg once or twice daily for 2 to 3 months, but Still I have the problem and found or felt no improvement. I don't know what to do. I am a teacher, so I have to stand before white board to take classes for 2 or 3 hours daily.
Avatar m tn However, since big tears usually do not repair fully, partial or complete removal of meniscus (meniscectomy) is performed. If conservative treatment to reduce joint effusion does not help, you may need knee replacement. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! Avatar m tn Hi, If the pain is mostly underneath the cap it says that the joint line pain would be there. Pain at the joint line is the result of a collateral ligament or meniscus problem (or both) until proven otherwise. Anterior knee pain can also be due to Patello-femoral syndrome. When did his pain begin, what was he doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Does he experience any grinding, locking, catching, or giving way of the knee?
Avatar f tn Usually a burning sensation on the knee with pain is due to inflammation of burs or bursitis. A bursa is a small sac of fluid. It cushions the outside of knee joint so that tendons and ligaments glide smoothly over the joint. This is usually treated with rest, anti-inflammatory drugs and physiotherapy. If infection is suspected then antibiotics will be prescribed. If pinched nerves are suspected you will need to undergo nerve conduction studies. Please consult an orthopedic specialist.
Avatar f tn The pain is below the knee cap on the left and right side and ontop of the knee cap on the right side and on the inside of the knee from above the knee to below the knee. For the last week and a half I've been getting sharp pains on the right inside of the knee and above the knee while walking or turning from right to left. When this happens the pain is so bad that I can hardly walk. I've also been getting needle type pain below the knee cap in the center.
Avatar m tn You need to run some basic tests for rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune diseases, diabetes and hypothyroidism as all can cause multiple joint pains. Also, an X-ray and MRI of the knee joint will be helpful. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care! Avatar f tn I can pin-point exactly where the pain is (it moves around the knee and elbow joint) just by touching it. I can also feel a constant throbbing pain without even touching my knees or elbows. I have not been responsive to icing it, physical therapy, several anti-inflammatory medications, a cortisone shot, prescription pain medication, and fibromyalgia medication (Lyrica). I have never experienced any sort of swelling nor do I feel stiff in my joints.
Avatar n tn My father in law had both knees replaced a couple years ago and he has done great. But I know another man who had a double knee done, decided the therapy was too painful, and now he can't walk at all. The key to knee replacement is to diligently do your post-surgical physical therapy no matter how bad it hurts. I'm pretty sure my FIL did his much longer than 4 weeks. He remains as active as possible - golf, ballroom dancing, and especially bike riding.
Avatar m tn Other treatments include knee caps and braces, taping the patella to reduce friction, anti inflammatory drugs, custom designed foot wear to correct arch problems if any and rest to the knee joint. Please discuss these treatment options with your specialist. You probably need an initial period of rest for the knee (maybe strapping it in braces) followed by physical therapy. Take care!
Avatar m tn As I wrote, my wife does not want a spinal or epidural, or even a regional block. She just wants the IV line and if needed a local anesthetic at the knee. She has talked with someone who says that they did it that way. What we are hoping for is to hear from anyone else that has done it that way and what were their experiences.
Avatar n tn The fluid is produced by the inflamed tissues that are affected by the arthritis and that line the joint. Usually a physician can drain off the fluid and your pain will improve. You may have had a "minor" meniscus tear at one point but now you have a major one....it needs to be repaired. Usually the "shave" off the part of the meniscus that is protruding and causing your pain. Sometimes they do more. It depends on the amount of injury to the meniscus.
378273 tn?1262097621 I sustained a knee injury 3 months ago. MRI showed Baker's Cyst with debris, subchondral fracture, torn meniscus partially stripped MCL, joint effusion and near-complete cartilate denudation in the lateral patellofemaral joint. Got a cortisone shot, which only helped a little.Ortho doctor called the fracture a bone bruise and said they take months to heal. The torn meniscus won't heal (he said) Other than a "scope" what can I do to get relief!
Avatar n tn not much pain involved and I am aleready walking w/out crutches after 3 days. I have been avoiding surgery for about 5 years, and now I don't know why. My personal recommendation is to go w/ your orthopedic doctors advice. If they say that surgery will help you with pain and discomfort, then do the operation.
Avatar f tn swelling seem to be mainly on medial aspect of knee from quads/vastus medialis through to medial and anterior calf/shin. Significant swelling just above medial joint line to back of knee. I have a copy of my surgeons letter to gp and it says I have significant changes to patellofemoral joint, grade iv changes to the the trochlea & grade ii changes to the the patella. These areas were subjected to chondroplasty.
Avatar f tn Yes, the Synvisc-One (hyalan) injection works best for a joint that has more hyaline cartilage like knee joint. It is less effective for a smaller joint like joints for your hands and feet. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar n tn Another thing that might help your pain is if you ask for and get a steroid injection directly into your knee joint. It can usually relieve pain for about a month or so. Bottom line is, though... you should find out exactly why it is you are experiencing pain at such a young age. If you are having pain after a hard jump or fall, chances are you tore something. Treat the short term symptoms, but also make sure you seek treatment for long term issues.

Avatar m tn This causes rubbing of the bones around the joint. Also if tendonitis and infection is associated with joint disease, the pain intensifies. Please consult your doctor. In all probability the infection is not under control. You may need a different set of antibiotics. Some bedside exercises may make the muscles around the joint stronger. Take care!
