Knee injury while running

Common Questions and Answers about Knee injury while running

knee

Avatar n tn I got my knee problem initially while running as well. It doesn't mean it happened because of what you did that day, it might have been building up for awhile. I don't know why you haven't seen an orthopedist to get an MRI and see if there's a meniscus problem, which it sounds like it might be, or to see if it's just tendinitis. Hopefully, it will just require physical therapy to rehab, but I don't think at this point it's just going to go away. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Pain in the front portion of the knee can be caused by bursitis (inflammation of the lining of the joint, possible due to injury while playing), arthritis, or injury to the patella cartilage (front portion of the knee). Pain on either sides of the knee is usually related to meniscal tears, injuries to the collateral ligaments, and even to arthritis. Pain in the back of the knee can be caused by arthritis or Bakers cysts (cystic accumulation of synovial fluid, also causes a swelling).
Avatar f tn after physical therapy and lots of rest, i was cleared to play lacrosse again. My knee was feeling alot better and stronger. i still wear a brace while i play to try to prevent any further injury. however, i'm afraid its injured again. my knee clicks and pops alot no and there is a piece of what i'm guessing is cartilage that moves around when i'm walking or running etc. my knee feels very weak and stiff like it did before surgery.
Avatar m tn From there hopefully your doctor can perform tests to find out if there is tissue damage, or what the exact injury is. Until then, I highly suggest you stay off of your knee as much as you can, i.e. no running. You can try ice, or heat, whichever feels better. I would be careful when stretching as well in case you aggravate your knee. Good luck and I hope your knee feels better soon!
Avatar m tn Hi, about 3 months ago i think i overextended my knee while dribbling the ball in a game of basketball. Its not that much of an injury, there was no pop or swelling. I was even able to continue the game. There was pain when it happened, but it quickly subsided. I was able to walk and put weight on it. I played basketball sporadically for the following months and it did not bother me. Last week I decided to go back to running after a long hiatus.
Avatar n tn It hurts when bending knee to chest, or after running, walking, cycling, basically overuse. I use a heating pad which helps at night. Is this a hip flexor injury and how do I treat it?
Avatar m tn for the last four years I have been experiencing sharp pain on the outside of my right knee starting usually after running about 3 miles. no pain when I am not running. It comes on gradually but I eventually need to stop running. The pain is located in the vicinity of the lateral meniscus and is most intense when my foot is off the ground and my leg moving forward. I have had no major injury to this knee. What is going on? is there anything I can do?
Avatar m tn m wondering at what age can ligament damage happen and has anyone had a child with a knee injury...a similiar one?
Avatar n tn This first happened 6 years ago while running and I overextended it. A quick sharp pain and inability to flex the leg without it throbbing. Pain now is dull, but sharpens as I apply sudden movement. Never had any surgeries and have no other current pain in the leg.
Avatar n tn The ACL may tear, either partially or completely, as a result of a hard twist, sudden stop while running, jump landing or direct blow to the knee. You may experience a loud, painful pop when the ligament is first injured, followed by swelling of the knee. The pain and swelling of an ACL injury can last for several weeks. Short-term treatment can relieve the pain and inflammation, but it takes months for an ACL injury to heal completely.
Avatar f tn Diagnosis of my injury after twisting it when turning a sharp corner when running in house. Felt pull/tug 4 inches or so below middle of knee. Discomfort bending, walking, sitting, squatting, etc. What did I fo. No swelling. What treatments to help it heal. What's my prognosis?
Avatar m tn upon leaving they gave me a foam knee brace and sent me on my way. When I got home and tried on the knee brace I found out it was way to large (XXL) to the point of it being almost comical (I'm 130 lbs., maybe if I was a NFL running back it would fit.
Avatar f tn Some simple yoga poses for wait loss.
Avatar f tn I have had pain in my left knee for about 2 years, (18 year old, female). I recently went skiing and the pain flared up. Initionally I wasn't going to make an appointment at the orthopedics, but after a week the pain didn't change. Today while running up the stairs I fell and landed on my left knee, it has three small bruises (inner side) about an inch from the knee cap, although the whole area hurts, it's not all bruised... is it something I should worry about?

16237877 tn?1446544835 About 2 years ago, I started running for the reason to get fit. But suddenly I happened to get knee pain whenever I ran or just walked. I thought that it was a sign of me doing something wrong when I run. I tried changing my shoes, but that didn't work. Finally, I had to go for a knee pain treatment at Physio Now Mississauga. The therapist there evaluated my knee. I was asked to wear a custom knee brace for a while. That helped a lot with pain.
Avatar m tn The consultant recommended a knee brace that locks at 0 degrees and 90 degrees while I undergo some physio and rehab. I have ordered a knee brace from DonJoy that is suitable, and just had my first physio session yesterday. The physio actually advised that I can move my knee through more than 90 degrees of flexion when exercising / stretching / in rehab, since I was able to do so without too much effort and no real discomfort when she was treating me.
Avatar f tn My knee is stiff and painful today underneath the knee cap where the pes anserine tendon inserts and to the inside of the knee cap (medially). I also have pain in the middle of the back of the knee, is especially sharp if I push into it. In terms of comfort and daily activities, I am having no trouble walking except that my knee will get a little swollen (very slight) and stiff if I walk a lot.
Avatar f tn Hi, I recently started running and injured my knee. I’m looking for a good compression knee sleeve to see if it will help me continue to workout. Has anyone here tried a compression knee sleeve by Grip Power Pads? It looks great online, but I just wanted some advice before I make a purchase. Thanks.
Avatar m tn ve been running with no knee pain. I run on the dirt/grass, where others run on the hard cement. Time after again they would get knee injuries. I quit running in races because I could feel the difference in the hard surface on my legs running verus the dirt/grass. If it was me, since I love running, I would stay off the hard cement. Our joints aren't made for that hard pounding.
Avatar f tn However, yesterday when I was running, I suddenly started getting sharp stabbing pain only on the outside of my right knee. My knee is NOT swollen at all, I can easily bend my knee and pushing all over it causes no pain. It only stabs when I'm jogging on that leg. Today it was way worse. It's not bad when I walk, but it's over the top when I run. The hip/upper femur pain is constantly present, but worse when I sit.
Avatar m tn Felt pain in right knee when pulling sofa forward about 4months ago. At the time I had no swelling , no continuous pain or knee wasn't buckling. However, when I've tried running I can't totally put weight on right knee. When I'm lying on my back, and bend my leg there's no pain. When I starighten my leg I can feel pain.ive tried holding my leg halfway and the pain is there around my right knee.ive not been to doctors because I have no "major symptoms".
Avatar f tn When I have it resting in front of me and I press on the kneecap, it seems to “rock” back and forth, while popping. The other knee does not pop and seems much more secure. The pops don’t really hurt, but it is uncomfortable. I know I have been favoring it more since it has been injured, so could that be the cause of some of the pops and pain? Will it make a difference if I see a doctor now or later, at this point? Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Temporary relief would come from rubbing the knee cap gently, primarily on the inside of the knee. I began running again in the summer (8 months post injury) and immediately noticed that I had some new pains associated with running. The head of the fibula bone at the knee would feel sharp pains, on and off, unexplainably. A similar pain would shoot up the underside of my leg, near the outside of the leg by the IT band, but not the IT band.
378273 tn?1262097621 My doctor prescribed a beta blocker for me two years ago. Just before I was diagnosed with AFib, I had stopped running because of a knee problem. After laying off running for several months, I have been slowly getting back into it and find that the medication does not seem to impact my running, although it does lower my heart rate and my endurance is not what it was before the knee injury or AFib. I suspect that is because of conditioning more than anything.
Avatar n tn Hi! I'm sorry to hear about your knee. It sounds to me like either a ligament or possibly cartilage. Does it feel unstable or is it still giving out on you? Does it ache after sitting for long amounts of time? Is your pain off to the side of the knee or under your knee cap? These answers may help me know better.
