Avatar m tn I am now 51 years old, and despite still having beebees in the knee area and a missing knee cap I have been fairly active, but now have arthritis surrounding the area and my knee occasionally pops out of alignment. I build livestock fence on hilly terrain and rope riding my horses. I would like to know what knee brace I could use to give it the best support possible (without being too hot when wearing) while doing these activities?
Avatar f tn He is taking out the plica, its gotten calcified and it pushed out my knee cap, so its not technically sublaxation because the plica is making the cap out of place. I appreciate your response and thank you for caring.
Avatar f tn He did an ultrasound and drew off some more fluid and gave him another cortizone shot. The first doctor drew the fluid from under his knee and the second drew it from his knee cap. It has been several weeks now and his pain is back he still has a little swelling but now both his knees hurt. He wears a brace on both his knees now. He has trouble getting up if he has to get down on the ground for something. We are not sure what to do now because both doctors has told him all his test look fine.
Avatar f tn Knee braces can provide support, stability, and pain relief for various knee issues, including meniscus tears. By wearing a knee brace, you can alleviate some of the stress on your knee and promote healing.
Avatar f tn My question is can the cartilage and the knee cap be from that one injury? I never had problems with my knee prior! Workers Comp is saying that it is a genetic defect and I was born with this.
Avatar f tn When in pain, RICE treatment helps (rest, ice, compression by wearing a knee cap and elevation of leg). Use of ultrasound waves also help bring relief. Other possibilities are vascular pathologies such as deep vein thrombosis and clots and will need a dopplar study. Please discuss these possibilities with your treating doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.

Avatar n tn It includes the articulation between the tibia and femur (leg and thigh) and the patella (knee cap) and femur. The most common knee problems in running relate to what is called the "patellofemoral complex". This consists of the quadriceps, knee cap and patellar tendon. What is now called patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) has also been called runner's knee, anterior knee pain, or chondromalacia of the patella.

Avatar m tn x-rays show obvious knee cap deteriation ( less than 50 % of the other knee in size ) and an old MRI report said slight sublexation- I have two questions untill I get a different referral from my PCP ( although the doc stated the obvious about the knee cap he did not even bother to allow me to show him what happens when I bend my knee and it wobbles and crunchs and did not even offer a brace solution to my falls ) 1.
Avatar f tn m sitting and move it a certain way i cannot make them go straight without pain and then a pop. Also when I ice skate or roller blade the medial side of my left knee cap hurts and the lateral side of my right one, what does this mean if anything?
378273 tn?1262097621 You could consult your doctor and ask regarding physiotherapy and knee band/cap for support. Usually these two should be able to maintain your knee movement with minimal pain. You could also take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory as and when required. Sometimes debridement of the torn ligament and damaged cartilage helps reduce the pain. However, yes, it is not a permanent cure. Please consult all aspects of an arthroscopic surgery with your doctor. Take care!
457721 tn?1256640798 Also, in some cases, strengthening the muscles around the knee cap and/or re-balancing the strength of the muscles around your knee, can help stabalize it. I have what they call "bilateral patella-alta", meaning both my kneecaps sit too high up, so you can imagine how easy it is for me to dislocate them. Due to the awkward position, I can also only wear knee gaurds for a limited time or risk "Patellar compression syndrome".
Avatar m tn I cannot be certain of the cause but at a guess I would say that I first started noticing it a week or so afterr I had a fall onto pavement whilst running (I was wearing knee-pads at the time, so it was more of an impact fall, rather than a wound). More Info : the pain does not appear when I passively flex e.g. a quadriceps stretch. I am 21, have a BMI less than 25, athletic, male. I have no history of joint pains or problems, nor does anyone in my family.
Avatar f tn When I was a freshman in highschool I had seen a Doctor about my knee problem, and was tolded that my knee caps were making new knee jionts by themselves. They had done surgery on my right knee. I was wondering what the medical name was for this type of knee problem.
293157 tn?1285873439 Your knee cap is probably slightly out of its groove. I awoke with popping knee but no pain one day until finally in the afternoon there was a giant pop and excruciating pain from the front of my knee all the way across and backward into the knee. I was able to see my husband's orthopedic doctor that same day and then was started on a physical therapy routine to strengthen my upper leg muscles to hold the knee cap in place. It is simply a group of exercises that I can do at home.
670987 tn?1284498786 Hey everyone, I am pregnant with my third child (about 17 weeks) with this pregnancy it has been one thing after another. First of all I have headaches everyday, now for about the last 5 hours or so, I've had a constant throbbing pain in my knee cap on my left leg. There is a bruised colored knot on the left side but that isn't where the pain is. The pain is around the bottom of the knee cap itself. I've tried a heating pad, ice, tylenol, etc. Not helping.
Avatar n tn Prepatellar bursitis, patellar subluxation, knee cap dislocation all can lead to pain directly over the knee cap.Rest, antiinflammatory medications, application of ice to the knee all are very important for reducing the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or are severe it is best to see an orthopaedician.I hope it helps. Best luck and kind regards!
Avatar f tn I have a question. I had a knee scope (to clean out scarr tissue underneath knee cap) on 3-26-2012 I only took a week off of work & started PT 9 days after surgery. I am walking better & the bending is getting easier. My question is (my PT guy could not answer) why do I still have fluid on the top of my knee (left side) if the holes are at the bottom sides of the knee cap.
Avatar f tn I was told that I have patella feminel pain, I am use to having trouble kneeling and walking after a shift at work and and my knee being weak and the knee cap moving around, but lately even when I am not doing anything it feels as though something is push up on my knee cap, and extremely painful and I cant get the pain to go away. At time it feels as though something is being wedged under my knee cap.
1308443 tn?1302693321 t remember the last time the swelling was sown enough I could see my knee cap. I am doing exercise I found online and wearing knee braces during karate. Nothing seems to help. The doctors keep telling me sorry just wait I out take 4 advil when they hurt. That doesn't help at all. Is there something else I should do or suggest to the doctors?
Avatar f tn with extreme stabbing pain in which I come very close to falling. No known injuries. Compared to other knee the knee cap looks to be double in size. Full extension even when sitting can Bring on the stabbing pain.
Avatar f tn The pain occurs mostly above the knee cap and slightly along both sides. I have never had any knee injuries nor do I remember injuring it prior to when the pain began. I made a doctor's appt for February 22nd but it seems to be getting worse and i'm not sure if I will be able to handle the pain. I have minimal swelling above the knee cap but no redness, warmth or presence of a fever.
