1308443 tn?1302693321 This can lead to chodromalacia patella ( wear of the articular cartilage on the back of the knee cap) and in the extreme, recurrent subluxation of the patella. The subluxation would account for the locking, and the feeling that the kneecap is about to "pop out of place". Your flat feet are a factor, and I would suggest arch supports. Thee can be over the counter at first, and custom orthotics if needed. Finally, physical therapy and bracing should be utilized.
Avatar n tn Prepatellar bursitis, patellar subluxation, knee cap dislocation all can lead to pain directly over the knee cap.Rest, antiinflammatory medications, application of ice to the knee all are very important for reducing the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or are severe it is best to see an orthopaedician.I hope it helps. Best luck and kind regards!
Avatar n tn Osteochondral lesion also often comes about due to fracture. Sublexation of petella I believe means dislocation of the knee cap. Mucinous degenerative change is kind of rare from what I've read and can limit motion. Are you experiencing that? Plica are layers in the knee. There are usually 4 and they help it bend and move. It sounds like there is an issue with your medial plica. It can be from irritation or injury. Sounds like your knee is jacked up.
Avatar f tn my right one is fine and when i have tingle pains and burning its hurts more then my bad knee with the knee cap problem. i had a bad knee like 6 months before all this other stuff started. its just nice to ask somebody what knows im not being rude when questioning there ms.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Pain in the knee cap usually refers to injury or under development of patella. Conditions causing this could be patellar bursitis, chodromalacia, patellar and quadriceps tendon rupture, fracture of the patella, subluxation and dislocation of patella. In your case, it is injury due to over use. It could most likely be pre-patellar bursitis, which causes pain during movement, limited movement and swelling.
Avatar f tn my knee keeps giving out 3 to 4 times a month...When the VA did the Pivot Shift, I explained to them that's exactly what happens when my knee gives out...They called it a gross positive pivot shift..Have had 3 MRI's done in 4 years.. gone from partial tear, to complete tear with reattachment to PCL, to complete tear now laying side ways (what ever that means)...
Avatar m tn have a knot on knee cap when to doc. 1974 said it was like munchhousen something and not the one for women doc.
Avatar n tn It includes the articulation between the tibia and femur (leg and thigh) and the patella (knee cap) and femur. The most common knee problems in running relate to what is called the "patellofemoral complex". This consists of the quadriceps, knee cap and patellar tendon. What is now called patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) has also been called runner's knee, anterior knee pain, or chondromalacia of the patella.

Around the top of my knee cap is tender and hurts and when I put pressure on my knee getting out the car or anything I get sharp tack like pains under my knee cap and sometimes on the side of my knee and it aches a little, I have really slight swelling but I am able to walk. What do you think it is and what should I do?
Avatar f tn When I was a freshman in highschool I had seen a Doctor about my knee problem, and was tolded that my knee caps were making new knee jionts by themselves. They had done surgery on my right knee. I was wondering what the medical name was for this type of knee problem.

Avatar m tn x-rays show obvious knee cap deteriation ( less than 50 % of the other knee in size ) and an old MRI report said slight sublexation- I have two questions untill I get a different referral from my PCP ( although the doc stated the obvious about the knee cap he did not even bother to allow me to show him what happens when I bend my knee and it wobbles and crunchs and did not even offer a brace solution to my falls ) 1.
Avatar m tn Is the pain under your knee cap or tendon? From what you are saying it sounds like your saying under your knee cap. You could have patellofemoral syndrome; very common for cyclists (read your bio). Try this website. http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_patellod_sma.
Avatar m tn A year back, i was injured in a football match in which the part of my left leg below the knee got twisted. The doctor gave me medicines for tissue repair. I had an MRI done two days back and the report says 1.Minimal intra articular fluid in the lateral compartment. 2.Rupture of ACL at the femoral attachment, likely posttraumatic. Anterior tibial subluxation. I want to know What exactly has happened? What is the treatment? and can Surgery be avoided?
Avatar f tn There is mild intermediate intensity intrasubstance signal within the menisci but no discrete tear evident extending to an articular surface. The medial and lateral compartment hyaline cartilage appears preserved. With the knee in extension there is lateral patellar tilt with approximate 3mm lateral patellar subluxation. Probably mild fibrillation hyaline cartilage patellofemoral compartment predominantly lateral. Patellar retinacula are intact. Marrow signal is normal.
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome, For what its worth it doesn't sound like MS to me, and if you think about it cancer would be a bit of a stretch, considering you are saying this is something you've experienced since you were a child. Being a new mum, its not uncommon to worry about your health or that of your new baby, its possible postpartem, that you are experiencing fluctuating hormonal levels, creating a level of anxiety you would not typically have.
Avatar f tn But no use, then had advised me to wear knee cap for few days. I was feeling better with knee cap. I removed it after 25 days, it was little better for 2 days, then again the pain is back. After few days, went to orthopedic, he said no problems and advised me to do some exercises. Then also no use. I have still have the pain in my knee and following parts....couldn't talk for more than 10 mins. Could you please advise me how to solve this and become normal.
Avatar n tn t remember which) are too weak (due to the fact that my knee are still growing) to keep the knee cap from sliding over to far and causing inflammation and swelling in the knee. So, it would be great if someone knows what is wrong and what it is called. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Whenever I touch it or bruxh it against something I get a bad pain in the side of my knee. Seems odd that an injury on the front of the knee cap and cause such pain on the side. Looking for any info, please help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn my daughter who is 11 broke her knee cap snapped off one of the minscus ligaments right at the knee cap and the cartilage that covers the knee was torn..she wasn't doing anything except standing when this happened..she recently had surgery on Nov 30Th to repair it.her orthopedic surgeon said that with the repair he is not optimistic about the knee cap staying in place due to bone shifting and as well as tissue degenerating..
Avatar n tn child with a small pebbles size bump under the skin on the knee cap area. It is firm, freely moveable, regular borders, and very tender to touch. When I say freely moveable I can actually move it all around her knee cap. I moved it down so far that it disappeared for a few seconds before it resurfaced. I thought it may be a piece of chipped bone but I believe it is to smooth for that. Her knee cap doesn't seem tender only the nodule.
