Knee cap inflammation

Common Questions and Answers about Knee cap inflammation

knee

I have just found out, after seeing 3 doctors, that I have a cyst on the back of my knee cap. I had my second knee replacement 8 years ago. The doctor is sending me for a ct scan and bone imaging test but said that he could not scope the knee. How can I walk if surgery will not be done? I understand because of the chance of infection, but I will be crippled in 6 months.
She woke up yesterday with a Swollen bump under her knee cap that is the size of 1/2 her knee. The top of it has a spot on it that looks like she scrapped or burned it like a rug burn. Says when she presses on it, it burns/hurts. Hurts to bend but only because of the skin being pulled. Obviously I told her to go to the dr tomorrow to get checked out which she is. She has been iceing it.
The doctor pushed for me to get a cortizone shot behind me knee cap to help with the inflammation. With reluctance, I accepted the shot. Four weeks later, I am constantly getting a sharp (knife stabbing pain) on the inside of my knee with a constant cold feeling in side the knee even though my skin feels warm. I have been taking alleve and pain medication as instructed by the doctor. The pain does not go away and the doc seems to think that I just need to go to physical therapy.
My knee cap is still my own. Why wasn't that replaced with the total knee also? I am so upset and will be getting a second opinion. Any ideas? Thanx.
It has been 6 months since I fell and broke my knee cap into 5 pieces. The Doctor did surgery and wired it back together. Then 6 weeks of Physical Therapy. I was walking almost normal, pain was minimal. But this past week when I get up to walk I feel as though the wire has moved and the pain is more than I can bare. I am back to walking without bending my knee. Has anyone heard of this?
Meanwhile, rest the affected joint, apply ice pack, take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory such as Tylenol, Aleve or Mobic, and wear protective gears (knee cap, elbow cap etc), and braces. Hope you get well soon! Good Luck and take care!
I was told that I have patella feminel pain, I am use to having trouble kneeling and walking after a shift at work and and my knee being weak and the knee cap moving around, but lately even when I am not doing anything it feels as though something is push up on my knee cap, and extremely painful and I cant get the pain to go away. At time it feels as though something is being wedged under my knee cap. I just don't know how to make the pain go away and it is getting worse every time it happens.
The bursa is a thin lining of tissue that sits in front of the patella(knee cap). There are bursae in many areas of the body, wherever a tendon attaches to a bone superficially. When you fell, you caused bleeding into the bursa, this caused the swelling and eventual bruise like appearance. First, you should have an Xray, to be safe, and make sure you didnt actually fracture your patella.
Hi My son is 16 years old he got injury in one of his Rugby practice, his Knee cap was broke en he loss 40% of it the Orthopedic Dr said that was the only choice for him to remove it the size was 2.5 by 2.0 cm, he also make some holds in to his femur bone to help develop cartilage, today is his 2nd day after the surgery and he is in so much pain he have a burning sensation.
This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained while playing), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. Other possibilities are bursitis (inflammation of fluid filled sac over joints), tendonitis (inflammation of cords joining muscles to bones) or due to weakness of patellar bone.
The doc said the tendons, or ligaments (I can't remember which) are too weak (due to the fact that my knee are still growing) to keep the knee cap from sliding over to far and causing inflammation and swelling in the knee. So, it would be great if someone knows what is wrong and what it is called. Thanks.
It can also be Patellofemoral syndrome. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor.
There is swelling and pain wich is right below my left knee cap and to the right. My knee also feels very loose to the right like the bottom part of my leg feels like its going to the left and the top stays in place. i haven't been to a doctor yet. Any idea on what may be wrong.
my Ortho told me that i had arthritis behind my knee cap, he shot my knee with cortizone, after two day i felt like knew but after two months, i started to feel the knee pain again, i went to see the doc again, he recommended another shot, i agreed, he tried to give me the shot without any anesthetic, so when the needle went in, by impulse i pull my knee back, and ever since then, i cannot bend my knee, i cannot kneel down, it hurts constantly, its an undescribable pain, worst than ever before.
I got through okay though the knee never really seemed to stop hurting. It seems if I touch the knee cap area, kneel or just bump it, it starts hurting again. I don't know what it could be. I had fallen on that knee before and it took several years for it to stop. At one time I went to a chiropractor and they put some kind of strange thing to make it tingle. Would I have to go through that again? I've been putting this off for a while but it doesn't seem like my knee is getting any better.
Whenever I walk up stairs my left knee makes a clicking noise and if I touch and feel my knee it feels like a grinding sensation inside my knee. I've been icing my knee after each game and the next few days following. It is uncomfortable to walk on it at times but not necessarily painful or impossible. I have started going to the gym again.
Hi. . If you had recently fallen and hurt your knee, you might have had a bleeding inside your joint and collection of blood in the joint space along with some fracture. I would advise you to immediately see an orthopedician and get an x-ray or a MRI of the affected joint done. Please do not ignore it.

and include popping, clicking, and I am almost positive that my knee cap feels as though it continuously relocates unnaturally. Furthermore, the cartiladge that I hear before sounds much worse and more frequent. Now, over this past weekend, I leaned up on my car only feel as though fluid might be in there (keep in mind it has swelled up frequently after therapy). A couple days ago I started to feel a little better on a scale of 1-10, a five if I don't do anything I am in good shape.

00 I looked at my left knee and is it all swollen above the knee cap and on the right side and it hurts to move it.(it's my left knee). I have done nothing to injure myself. Is this just symptoms of anemia or could it be something completely different..

Unfortunatly, new bumps appeared on my left inner quadricept and on my left outter calf, they dissapeared in under a day. By Sunday morning i had another bump on the right knee, it was only about 1/2 inch in diameter when it started and has by now ( monday the 14th) grown into a full grown sore covering most of my knee cap area (photo joined).
I was given crutches and 2 different knee braces to hold my knee cap in throughout my teenage years. From time to time I still need the braces. I have loose ligaments throughout my body and don't know if this is the cause for me not outgrowing it? I often find it's worse during bad weather, and when I go to bed at night, I started putting pillows under my knee for some comfort but it will still keep me up for a while.
I am now experiencing more pain then before the injections. The pain is mainly under the bottom of my knee cap when pressure is applied to my toes while walking and threw both sides of the knee joint when pressure is applied to my heal while walking. When my leg is fully extended forward straight. I feel a stabbing pain above my knee cap. My current doctor is freaking useless and after giving him my full history on our first visit he wrote nothing down.
