Common Questions and Answers about Knee braces mcl

knee

Avatar f tn He diagnosed an MCL injury and a need for MRI to see the extent. He assumed that an MCL reconstruction would be necessary. I asked what the conservative approach would be. He said that we could keep it immobile (braced) for 6 weeks to see if it would heal on its own. I kept my knee straight for 6 weeks, which is no small feat. Fast-forward 6 weeks, I went in for a follow-up and he moved the knee in two different directions, checked the mobility and ordered PT.
Avatar m tn As far as the meniscus is concerned, you should probably get your knee scoped for that. For the MCL, a hinged knee brace usually does the trick in regards to healing, along with physical therapy. Make sure your quads are strong too!
676032 tn?1315674063 Can someone please give me some information on MCL (medial collateral ligament) damage... i did some damage to my left knee last saturday, physio says it MCL and cartilage damage. The only thing I had done to my knee was an x-ray. Do I not need an MRI or something to determine the damage?? This pain is not even funny anymore!!! Its on the inside of my leg and also out through my patella...
Avatar n tn In the beginning of august I had a bad fall. I was put in a knee splint. After an MRI it looks like I have a grade 3 MCL tear. Prior to that, I've had habitual dislocation of the patella. Today, the doctor said I might have never had a connected MCL since my knee would "travel" with every step (and I could walk and function completely normally, before the injury).
1587585 tn?1309432260 If yes then which kind of knee braces/support? (because I usually tend to injure my knee with the elastic knee supports more often than without it). 4) Would Yoga, magnet therapy or any kind of therapy help heal the knee joint? Thanks in anticipation...
159619 tn?1707018272 He said there is a considerable fluid build up in the injured left knee and suspects at the least an MCL tear (it does feel exactly like my right knee when I tore that MCL). I'll be getting an MRI next week to confirm and he has me on Hydrocodone 10/500 for the pain. When I tore my right MCL, I never got fluid in the knee and the level of pain is getting considerably worse on the new injury from my experience with the previous injury on my right knee.

Avatar f tn the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), and the medial meniscus.
1148201 tn?1262165258 I was in a motor cycle crash a year and a half ago and due to other problems that have been resolved they can now fix my knee. After a MRI they have found that I have only MCL in my left knee in tact and need to have a operation to fix this. I have found many people with ACL tears on you tube but can't find info on the problems I have in my knee.
Avatar m tn I have constant knee pain, swelling and my knee gives away. The pain is primarily on the inner side of the knee. I have had several kneesurgeries, one in the last 6months that was supposed to fix all these issues. I have been told its just arthritis, however after surgery i was told no signs of arhritis. a physical therapist told me i have a loose mcl. what to do?
1087481 tn?1391442376 Can you please explain what these results of a knee MRI mean? "...slight increased signal to the medial femoral condyle near the insertion of the medial collateral ligament..." Thank you!
Avatar f tn I had torn my right MCL and had surgery to fix it a few months ago. I am the catcher for my high school softball team and my coach gave me the option of changing positions if I wanted to. I love catching, but I was wondering if continuing at that position is a good idea or not.
Avatar m tn I feel as though I have been given the round about and would really like to know what is wrong. I have dont the rehab, the resting, strengthening, scoping and injections and knee braces. I know my body, especially my knees; i know that they will never be pain free especially after three surgeries but this is not a normal feeling for me. Something is wrong. Do you have any suggestions of what it might be or what I should do?
Avatar m tn Hello Doctor, Four days ago I was cleaning my garage and was in a sqautting position and when I tried to get up I felt something in the right side of my left knee sort of give-like something moved and it hurt slightly...as the day wore on the pain got worse and it was just on the right side of the knee. Now it is in the front and it hurts only when I am walking ..it really hurts and burns.
Avatar f tn Right knee X-Ray indicates some distortion on the medial side of femur bone where MCL attaches. However the radiologist did not mention anything, I feel stretch in muscles at this point that restricts my knee to bend further. Link to X-Ray: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jvw9uIZ9jya0IBynuceUXkN6uG-tmS5W/view?usp=sharing This X-ray was taken after 2 months of injury to the knee.
Avatar f tn Back at the beginning of december i injured my knee. I had been about to kneel down when my leg gave out and i landed on my knee with it bent in a very awkward way. I had swelling and great amounts of pain and dull ache and after seeing a doctor in A&E was booked for an mri scan and put into a lockable brace which i wore for around 6 weeks as he was sure i'd suffered mcl injury. The scan showed no cartilage damage and no real mcl damage which was suspected.

587778 tn?1261397118 You should have proper strong ligaments in your knee joint and I would suggest you to go for an MRI and confirm if the healing in your MCL was complete. Ligament damage can contribute to osteoarthritis further. I would suggest you to eat healthy and maintain proper body weight. Do not go for activities where you have to put pressure on your joint cartilages like running and jogging on hard surfaces or high intensity sports.
Avatar m tn There is marrow edema/ bone contusion in the lateral tibial condyle. There is grade II sprain of LCL and grade I sprain of MCL. There are collections in and around the knee joint as described. Now I have no pain while walking, feeling slight instability. pain while bending my knee or while i sit on ground. can not bend my knee. Its almost a month now. My queries are 1. Can I avoid arthroscopic surgery in my case. 2. and a Second opinion?
Avatar f tn I was playing soccer when i went into a tackle my Body got twisted around but my foot and lower leg stayed still. I felt a massive pain through my knee on the inside of my knee and heard and felt a snap. My team mates imediatly came running over because they said they heard a snap sound to and that it looked nasty when i did it. My coach put ice on it and strapped it up but i can only put a tiny amount of weight on it before my knee collapses.
Avatar f tn My son hurt his knee in football last Friday night. His MRI shows a MCL tear, partial ACL tear, and a LMT (meniscus tear - 3mm). He'll attend physical therapy in the next week or so. The doctor mentioned that it's not necessary to do surgery right away. Everyone that I talk to encourages me to have him do the surgery due to his age - (18 yrs old - 6'1" - 220 lbs). I want to do what's best for him. Should I get another opinion?
Avatar f tn Right knee X-Ray indicates some distortion on the medial side of femur bone where MCL attaches. However the radiologist did not mention anything, I feel stretch in muscles at this point that restricts my knee to bend further. The doctor says that it is a non-concluding observation. Is it a distortion? If yes, what is it? Link to X-Ray: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jvw9uIZ9jya0IBynuceUXkN6uG-tmS5W/view?usp=sharing Note: This X-ray was taken after 2 months of injury to the knee.
Avatar f tn There was no pop or immediate/major swelling, but there was pain on the inside of the knee. I had a few episodes of the knee giving out and swelling eventually increased so 2 days after I went to an orthopedic doctor. He confirmed my suspicion that I had an MCL sprain, but said I may have also injured my ACL and meniscus.
Avatar f tn Please explain this to me...I had an e-ray on knee. the findings: there is moderate diffuse enthesopathy around the knee. Additionally, there is bulky ossific density along the expected location of the proximal medial collateral ligament. This can be seen with Pellegrini-Stieda deformity and remote MCL injury. Recommedning MRI> Will appreciate if you can explain and details about this.
