My own opinion, and it's only an opinion, that none of these drugs was intended to treat sleep problems. They're way too strong for that. (Well, Ambien was created for sleep, my bad). You've been treated with antipsychotics, and yes, they are sedating, but sedation isn't sleep, it isn't a natural sleep cycle.

I have started to take two pills instead of one (so 20mg a night), avoiding eating after dinner just because the ambien will work better, and a couple weeks ago I got so desperate for the feeling I blew it. I get the urge to do that when I do not feel it starting to kick in- most likely because I have eaten since dinner. I have only done that a handful of times, but I know it is very bad news. I knew the first time I did it I was crossing a serious line.

To me the klonopin did work longer then xanax...I took klonopin as persribed from the doctor for 3 yrs...I stopped taking them c/t, without asking him, or reading anything about benzo's...I have to say the w/d's were worst then opiates...But in a whole different way...I remember i did not sleep for 13 days, except for a few hours here and there...Then i got on lexapro, and it got better real quick....I really wish i had found this forum before i did something so stupid...

ambien nor lunesta are benzos...caution must be used especially on a medicaation used for sleep...sleep is priceless to many and psychological...and/or physical addiction is very easy to any sleep med that u depend on every night....i think the worst thing possible is for someone to depend on a true benzo for sleep tho...

Thanks Lynn57, that helps to know. I am still having anxiety even on the 10mlg of Lexapro. I can still feel them come on and off, it just takes that hard edge off of them when they come on. I'm taking a bit more than a half of Ambien at night and that seems to be working for these past 2 days. Let's see if that will do, if not I'll definitely ask my Dr. for Klonopin. Thanks again. I know exactly how you felt too. I wonder why at night is when it hits our minds.

My shrink put me on Paxil (antidepressant) and Ambien (sleep pill) and Klonopin (anxiety). I was weaned off Ambien after 6 mos. but kept on Paxil and Klonopin (as needed). These really helped me through. But be careful on Paxil , because it is very hard to wean off. Talk to your psychiatrist and see what's best for you. Any antidepressant will have side effects.

On the other hand, I had an unpleasant reaction to trazodone, so in my case concomitant use of antidepressants, Klonopin, and Ambien CR works best for me. In other words, you may have to use more than just a sleeping pill to treat your insomnia, as you are probably finding out with your use of Klonopin. Just be cautious as that drug has highly addictive properties. Make sure you wean down off of it if you have been taking it for any amount of time.

klonopin is faster acting than zanax or some of the others i believe.. as far as it being different from ambien, the ambien, lunesta's etc. are in a class called sleep hypnotics, and the benzo's are.. benzo's! personally, i'd rather take an ambien than and OTC sleeping pill so i don't have the "sleeping pill hangover." but, if you think you'll get addicted to it, then you might be better off with the OTC (altho..

I don't know much about klonopin, but I was prescribed Xanax and ambien for sleep, after suffering from anxiety/emotional turmoil. I was specifically told by my GP that you can take Xanax and ambien at the same time. One is a benzo and the other is a hypnotic.

I have just started Klonopin for lack of sleep! not depression or anxiety... however, now after a week I am finding that I am emotional, tearing up a lot........ Lack of sleep is the pain from arthritis in my neck, spine, ankle. Also SLE which often gives us lack of sleep. I also have heart problems, and diabetic. i was going to ask the EXACT same question last night l0l. i searched for previous topics and found none related this closely. last night i took 1 ambien and i'm also taking 5 mg klonopin for the last 3 days.

I use Klonopin at night for muscle spasms, to relax in general and to help with sleep. It has a long half-life unlike xanax which has a short half-life somewhere in the range of 11 hours according to a quick reference to wikipedia(take that info with a grain of salt) hours. Klonopin's half -life is supposedley 19-60 hours if used on a continual basis. I was prescribed Klonopin due to muscle spasms not reduced by baclofen. Xanax and Klonipin are both benzodiazipenes.

i used ambien with no difficulty//but some abuse ambien..i have taken it for sleep for over 10 yrs when needed without an increase in dose....and i am an addict...downers///things that make me sleepy//just r not my thing nor my doc....but i know i gotta be careful with everything i take...sleep is important to recovery....

I have generalized anxiety and Insomnia that are usually well controlled, but lately are not. I have not slept hardly at all for 3 days. I've gotten 1-2 total hours on average a night with no REM sleep. My anxiety is terrible, and the longer I don't get adequate sleep the worse its getting. I take ambien and klonopin 1mg twice daily. Has anyone got any suggestions? I would appreciate anyone's comments or further questions.

I previously posted a question concerning ambien as a replacement for klonipin. My ob/gyn had me drop the klonopin cold turkey and wanted me to take ambien at night. I went to see my internist, and she is now weening me from klonopin and lexapro, and putting me on prozac. I'm on Day three of a quick taper off Tramadol with the help of my Phsyc. She gave me Pristq for depression, etc...., chlonodin, and klonopin and Ambien CR for sleep. I'm getting through the days fairly well, just SUPER groggy which I'm thinking will subside as I continue and only plan on using the chlonodin, klonopin and ambien through like 10-20 days of withdrawal symptoms.

t tough out the sleep until it returns, please try Melatonin over Ambien. Ambien will give you some awesome sleep, but you pay for it with the dependance. You can to this....one day at a time!

i would talk to my doctor and find another alternative for sleep....taking these every night could get u into trouble..have u tried the natural sleep aids like melatonin, valerian, etc?

I can usually fall asleep, however i wake and stay up for a few hours every night. i have tried benedryl,klonopin,trazadone,serequil, and elavil for relief however every one of these meds has a paradoxical effect on me. Any suggestions?

I tapered down to 6 and then saw a doc and got on Prestiq (anti-depressant), Clonidine for the withdrawal and Klonopin for Anxiety and she gave me Ambien CR for at night and in 3 days, I went CT yesterday. At first it really took away the WD feeling, but last night it was torture. I have Parkinsons and sleep from about 11pm to 2 am and am unable to get back to sleep. I did try xanax about for four days in a row. I woke at 2 a.m., took a .25mg each time and it put me back to sleep from 3 to 7. Worked perfect but I hear they're addictive. Klonopin is also in the benzo class and I worry it may be too strong. Trazodone is an anti-depressent and I've read scary stuff regarding that.

i have been taking lortab 10/500 & ambien for about 7 years. i am currently taking hydrocodone compound 15mg(5day), klonopin& alazopram, phentermine(3day), and when i fill a script for ambien i will take up to 7 late afternoon. i will also take the ambien and klonopin throughout the day if i am out of pain meds. i dont know were to start, i have hit rock bottom. i try to stop taking one then start abusing another.
