Avatar m tn You might just be the newest member to the Kidney Stone Club. If it is not unbearable now it will be. If the pain radiates down to your groin that is a pretty good indication of a stone. The pain is from when the stone leaves the kidney and attempts to travel down the VERY small ureter that connects the kidney to the Bladder.
Avatar m tn I to have a history of stones & even dealt with one stuck in my urethra for 5 months ( i was still getting my fix of hydro so why bother) until i got a Major infection, as u should know being in the medical field as well, so i had zero choice to have 2 surgeries in 1 week. Congrats to 16 months clean, thats awesome & what i'am striving for ( i'am only at 29 days ) but being in the medical field u know sometimes u might just need them.
Avatar m tn 39 yr old male. History of kidney stones. Began experiencing pain in bladder when attempting to urinate. Felt constant urge to go but strained to pass urine. Pain and urgency persisted for about eight hours even after aggressively drinking water (thought it might have just been due to dehydration). After about eight hours, I felt the familiar stabbing pain in my left kidney region. I went to the ER and was given toradol.
1310633 tn?1430224091 *This is long, sorry* I'm not sure how to put into words exactly what my situation is, so I'm going to ramble for a bit and see what comes out (looking for advice): I produce kidney-stones and pass them on a regular basis (I have an incurable condition called Cystinuria which causes me to make & pass large kidney-stones).
535822 tn?1443976780 First of all I have kidney stones ever present inside my kidney. They don't usually cause problems. About 3-4 weeks ago, I started having symptoms resembling a stomach bug (diarrhea) and fatigue for a couple of days, then started having flank pain. Went to urgen care and they gave me 3 days worth of cipro. She said I had a "few" white blood cells in my urine, but that was all. She also ordered a CT scan.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry that you are going through this. Kidney stones are no joke! That is some very intense pain. I have had them several times. The most recent time that I had them, I was given Toradol IV. (It also comes in pill form.) It's non narcotic and it is an amazing anti inflammatory drug. My doctor says that it's as strong as morphine, but without the 'high'. I hope that you are able to get some relief soon. Be sure that you are forcing fluids.
Avatar f tn Also, do not take calcium carbonate mineral pills since it could contribute to kidney stones because kidney stones are actually pellets of calcium carbonate !! Only drink water which already has dissolved calcium carbonate in it.
Avatar f tn Dear Bambamm, I have gone through your case history. Medullary sponge kidney (MSK) predispose to recurrent kidney stones and urinary tract infections. First I would like to find out what is cause of pain? In your case, probable cause of pain is either the stones or a hematoma. If a hematoma is causing the pain, It needs to be surgically drained. Decompression will relieve the pain. As for your stones, I think surgical procedure is the best treatment to relieve pain.
Avatar n tn You should ask your husband’s doctors if the CT imaging technique used is capable of visualizing stones of all composition, including uric acid stones. If not, the initial diagnosis of “kidney stones” could still be the correct diagnosis. The detection of one of his lungs being “flat” on the bottom probably means that the hemidiaphragm is flattened.
Avatar n tn t do a CT scan so he ordered one and I find out I had two kidney stones a 3x2mm in my left kidney and a 5x3mm in my right kidneys. Non obstructive and still in the kidneys in the lower pole. I was told I was at risk for them getting bigger. I got prescribed hydro's and sent home. 8 days later I was in even worse pain to the point I was in tears and so nauseous I couldn't eat. The pain was now in both flanks.
Avatar f tn 3 weeks ago my 26 year old son (diabetic) was having pain at his side and back (at kidney area). He went to the Dr. and they said he had kidney stones. After two weeks he did not pass the stones. He went to the emergency room this past Sunday with horrible pain and difficulty urinating. They finally have calmed him down with around the clock morphine. They have run 2 CT scans and a renal nuclear scan. Both shown no evidence of a blockage.
Avatar f tn I'm a bit confused as well...but I'll say from experience, as someone who has had multiple kidney stones over the past 10 years - ibuprofen and toradol really DO work better than narcotics. I've been pumped full of dilaudid...been on a morphine pump....and for kidney stones, I still found more relief from a good strong NSAID and a heat pack.
Avatar n tn lithrotripsy is a walk in the park ive had 2 of them and have kidney stones since 1995!!
Avatar n tn calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. Treatment modes include oral medicines, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Please discuss these treatment options with your urologist. Also take less calcium and oxalate rich foods and supplements like dairy products, colas, chocolate, peanuts, leafy vegetables, and tea. I hope it helps.
Avatar n tn what is the common treatment for someone that has a history of kidney stones if entering the ER. shouldn't this pt get a stent?
Avatar m tn Im out of work, have no insurance and cannot afford another $100 visit this month. Obviously is its very frustrating; kidney stones are very painful in case anyone has had them. Now I've looked at the federal regulations and florida statutes for controlled substances. Hydrocodone is a schedule CIII drug, which allows up to 5 refills that can be called or faxed in. Anyway, my question is, Do they have the freedom to do that?
Avatar n tn These agents aren't known to cause kidney stones. Most kidney stones in the US are caused by our diet which is rich in meat protein. Calcium supplementation does increase the risk of kidney stones. As far as the blood pressure goes, he should probably have his dose of the lisinopril reduced. Alternatively, there are other agents such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers or Angiotensine receptor blockers that can also be tried. I would probably avoid diuretics at this point.
Avatar m tn 20 mm stone in my right kidney which was removed by lithotripsy and now as per ultrasound report the kidney is clear and now it is two month since the treatment. But after two months still i have now a different pressure like pain at the right side (back side) due to this pressure i always feel anxiety and tiredness. When i walk or move around there is no pressure (pain) but when i sit or lay down the pressure feeling starts.
Avatar n tn This could turn out the be a kidney stones. I have MSK many of us with MSK, have lots and lots of stones. I have heard over and over of test being done, and show nothing only to pass a stone a few days later. There are also some kinds of stones that do not show up on test, often referred to as ghost stones or Uric acid stones I believe. No matter what is going on you need to pursue looking for an answer! I hope this passes quickly, literally!
Avatar n tn Small stones do not need to be treated and will be passed in the urine if you ensure good fluid intake so that it is passed out. Bigger stones will need other forms of treatment like surgery, lithotripsy, shock wave therapy etc.
