Avatar n tn what is the common treatment for someone that has a history of kidney stones if entering the ER. shouldn't this pt get a stent?
Avatar m tn For mild to severe pain not relieved by medication and persist after 2months, have this evaluated further by your urologist for proper management. In some cases, kidney stones may recur. It is recommended that regular follow-up with your doctor to ensure that kidney stones are controlled and do not return. Additional tests such as x-rays, blood tests, or urine analysis may be done. Take care and best regards.
Avatar n tn lithrotripsy is a walk in the park ive had 2 of them and have kidney stones since 1995!!
Avatar f tn My question is do any of you see a pain management dr for pain related to kidney stones? Ive gotten stones for the last 18 years but they used to come about anywhere from once or twice a year with one 3 year gap of no stones which was heavenly. Now since novemeber they seem to forming rapidly. Is this any indication that this may continue to be a frequent problem or could this just be a flukish year? My urologist doesn't seem to have any real idea so i was looking for personal experiences.
Avatar m tn I am a 37 year old man. I had Kidney stones in 2002 which was treated by the laser treatment. Again this year in 2010, I had the same problem and was again treated by the same method. The analysis of the stone was found to be due to calcium. My job demands that I remain fit all the time due to lack of medical help. I do drink about 2 liters of water per day some times accompanied with lemon.
Avatar f tn My urologist has referred me to a pain management dr and my appt is still 2 weeks away. My question is has anyone here seen a pain management dr for pain related to kidney stones? If so can you shed any light on what to expect? Ive never been to this type of dr before so i don't really know what he can or will do for me and can't find much info online about this particular kind of situation.
Avatar n tn The size, configuration, and location affect the spontaneous passage of these stones. However, these may recur. There are different of types of kidney stones and calcium oxalate is the most common stone that forms. To prevent them from forming regularly, drink plenty of water and have a proper diet. Take care and best regards.
Avatar m tn Small kidney stones may naturally be expelled through the urine while bigger stones may cause obstruction and infection. Take the medicine as prescribed and do keep us posted with your follow-up. Best regards.
Avatar m tn i have been to see my gp a month ago with kidney stones, painfull cramps ,the pain has gone but im passing alot of blood when i urinate and it also stings when i urinate which is about 20 times a day im male and 29 years old any help please
Avatar n tn Calcium oxalate crystals in the urine are the most common constituent of human kidney stones. Also, blood in the urine can be caused by a lot of things. Some are serious, including cancers, trauma, stones, infections, and obstructions of the urinary tract. Others are less important and may require no treatment. These may include viral infections, nonspecific inflammations of the kidney, medications and benign prostate enlargement. As kidney stone develops, they can also cause hematuria.
Avatar m tn Rushed to ER, where a CT scan was done. 3 stones were detected - one in ureter, and 2 in kidney. Doctor could not reach the stone so he ended up putting the stent and asked me to drink water (he predicted stones to be uric acid stones). Then I went for ultrasound every 10 days. 1st ultrasound said I have only 2 stones remaining. 2nd ultrasound said I had 1 stone of 6mm remaining. 3rd ultrasound said I had 1 stone of 8mm.
Avatar f tn Before you assume your kidney stone production is based on a magnesium deficiency, you need to have your labs and stone analized. An IVP of your kidney will help determine if you don't have a "sponge kidney".Medullary Sponge kidney is an anatomical defect in the kidney which produces multiple kidney stones within pockets of the kidneys. No amount of Magnesium will resolve that. So I wouldn't go messing with your chemistry until you know why.
Avatar m tn I have an appointment with a urologist but it is stil a couple weeks away, just a little anxious to see what it could be. The cat scan showed no kidney stones but I have read that if the stones are 3mm or smaller they may not show up. I had both with and without contrast in the cat scan. My doctor thought for sure stones would have shown up.
Avatar n tn also calcium oxylate was in my urine, what i believe are kidney stones, could they have caused the infection and the blockage of urine?
Avatar f tn Hi, A detailed history and work up is important for correct diagnosis and management of your condition. Struvite stones are called infection stones and are commonly observed in people who have factors that predispose them to UTIs like those with spinal cord injury, reflux disorders and obstructive uropathies etc. These can grow rapidly, forming large calyceal staghorn calculi requiring invasive surgery such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy for definitive treatment.
Avatar f tn I have a 15 yr. history with kidney stones. I had my most recent attack 3 weeks ago and it was one of the longest enduring of any I've had, with the most severe flank and ureter pain lasting almost 12 hrs. The last couple hours of the horrible pain, I experienced what I would almost call spasms very low down, and I've never had that before in any of the other attacks. I had waves of pain and the urge to urinate every few minutes.
Avatar f tn I have lived with msk since all my life but i started getting kidney stones at 16 i am now 34. I dont think puting a pajn pump or numbinh thr nerves a good idea. We need to feel the pain so we know what is happening. Most of my stones are small around point 3 or 4 cm which are still painful but we still have to get checked for infections which could cause kidney failure and if we have a blocked stone which can also cause kidney failure...
Avatar m tn If you are referring to Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) , a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure, this is used to treat enlarged prostate BPH that is causing obstruction. Kidney and bladder stones are usually removed through lithotrpsy or litholaplaxy, It is best that you discuss this with your attending physician also for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
514293 tn?1281462119 Hi Kidney stones may present with a vague discomfort in the flank but would start presenting with pain once the stone gets dislodged and traverses the ureters. The ureteral spasms (contraction of the ureters ) will induce pain which may need immediate management. For stones less than 4 mm, these may pass spontaneously and may only require supportive therapy such as increase in fluid intake.
Avatar m tn With your history of kidney stones, the risk of recurrent kidney stones is present. Dietary and medical management are often advised to help prevent recurrence. It is best that you check with your attending physician for proper management. Drinking plenty of fluids is highly recommended. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Hi, my name is Dylan, over the past 3 years I have been dealing with kidney stones periodically. In October of 2010 I had lithotripsy to break apart a kidney stone about the size of my pinky nail. After the procedure I was sent home and told to collect my stones for analysis. When the results came back I was told I had calcium/oxalate kidney stones. I was prescribed Potassium Citrate and Hydrochlorothyazide to help knock back the amount of stones I was having.
Avatar m tn Hi there. Most kidney stones less than 6mm in size can be treated conservatively. If pain, nausea and vomiting can be controlled, most of these stones will pass spontaneously. one must be well hydrated while trying to pass stone. Pain can be controlled with NSAIDs and narcotics on prescription if the pain is very distressing. the stone can be kept track of for weeks to months if there is no significant obstruction and if nausea and vomiting are tolerable and there is no active infection.
Avatar f tn There are other types as well ( cystine, struvite , uric) Kidney stones may hold a genetic predisposition. In your case, the presence of kidney formers in the family may explain the onset of kidney stones at an earlier age. It is best to open lines of communication with your physicians. At this point, you may discuss on whether a referral to a pain management specialist may help.Continue following physician's advice regarding diet, fluid intake and exercise.
Avatar f tn Hi Tee, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am very sorry to hear about your untreated pain. If you have kidney stones and they are not moving you should not have significant pain. However if you do not have kidney stones that are moving or partially blocking the passage of urine you need to have your pain diagnosed. I have a long history of stones and know how very extreme the pain can be. My heart goes out to you and anyone who passes kidney stones.
Avatar n tn m not sure which is best, it probably depends on your specific case. I had two surgeries for kidney stones in Feb and my urologist pulled them out but a few of them need to be broken up because of their size and I have an unusually small ureter. I ended up having 11 kidney stones removed. I hope you get your taken care of soon!
