Avatar f tn I am new to kidney stones. I passed my first kidney stone about 2 months ago and I know I have two more. A 2mm on one side and a 4 on the other side. The first one I had happened at night, so I woke up in pain. I am just wondering is there symptoms you can feel when you are awake. Just 4 days ago, I had 4 very sharp pains in the right side my back over a 2 hour period. Today I am hit with a wave of nausea.
Avatar f tn Hyperparathyroidism is the number one cause of kidney stones. Every person with a kidney stone should be tested for a problem with their parathyroid glands. Nearly half of all people with kidney stones have a parathyroid tumor in their neck that must be removed or the kidney stones will return.
Avatar f tn I have a male friend who's been dealin w/ kidney stones for about a year quite now. He's on medi-cal in CA & he's not gettin anywhere w/ doctor's. He's been waitin for 1 mo. now for a referral to see a specialist & in the mean time his symptoms seems to be gettin more serious.
Avatar f tn The treatment for kidney stones depends on their size and what they are made of and also if they are causing pain or obstructing the urinary tract. Small stones usually pass through the urinary tract without treatment. It is good advice to stay well hydrated as that should prevent the stones from getting any bigger or new ones from forming. For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .
Avatar f tn I have a 15 yr. history with kidney stones. I had my most recent attack 3 weeks ago and it was one of the longest enduring of any I've had, with the most severe flank and ureter pain lasting almost 12 hrs. The last couple hours of the horrible pain, I experienced what I would almost call spasms very low down, and I've never had that before in any of the other attacks. I had waves of pain and the urge to urinate every few minutes.
Avatar m tn I have been dealing with chronic kidney stones for 8 years. I have passed over 200 stones and have over a dozen currently between both kidneys. I have been to about a dozen different urologists with each telling my husband and I they don't know what to do to help me stop forming stones and then labeling me a "pain drug seeker" so they don't have to admit they can't figure it out. I am now being seen by a urologist at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD.
Avatar f tn I went in to have my stones removed on 2/15/13.when I woke up I was told I had a stent and removal of the stones wasn't possible at that time because my ureter was too small. The stent will make my ureter larger so the doctor can remove the stones in 10-14 days. In the meantime I'm having horrible pain in what feels like my bladder. Is what's being done with me standard protocol? Is it normally this painful?
Avatar m tn Hello, Since the kindey stone is 7 mm, so the symptoms seem unrelated to the kidney stones. Since you are having pedal or leg edema, hence your cardiac, liver and kidney functions need to be assessed for which I suggest you to consult a physician immediately. Abdominal causes like irritable bowel syndrome can also cause such symptoms. Common symptoms include abdominal cramping or pain, bloating and gassiness, and altered bowel habits(alternate constipation and loose stools).
Avatar f tn Is it true that people with POTS are more prone to kidney stones??? I read that, but wondering if anyone else has had issues. I have had two major attacks in two weeks and hoping this isn't a new "byproduct" I have to deal with! Thank you for your input!
Avatar f tn If there were kidney stones, then together with other symptoms, you'd experience burning during urination. Kidney stone can cause really strong and sharp colic pain on one side of abdomen (going elswhere from the kidney area in the back or by (usually) one side of abdomen down to the groin. This pain usually causes constipation. Gas, bloating, diarrhea...this goes more with diverticulitis. Temperature means infection, you should get antibiotics (probably according to stool culture).
Avatar m tn With your history of kidney stones, the risk of recurrent kidney stones is present. Dietary and medical management are often advised to help prevent recurrence. It is best that you check with your attending physician for proper management. Drinking plenty of fluids is highly recommended. Take care and do keep us posted.
540521 tn?1221699706 s a urinary tract infection, or it could be kidney stones as well. The kidney stones could be hiding, i have heard of that. Has your doctor given you anything for the pain? I hope everything goes well on Wednesday and hopefully they will have more answers for you. I know it's frustrating, and i am frustrated as well but i just take it one day at a time and i would tell your doctor just how much pain you are in, maybe he can help or give you a stronger medication.
Avatar n tn Hi, Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage—on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters—they can cause obstruction of the ureter.
Avatar f tn As you have had/still have calcium oxalate stones, your risk of getting more kidney stones is much increased. Avoid the foods mentioned and browse the web for more information on oxalate rich foods that you should avoid or eat less of. It is also very important to always stay well hydrated. Your urologist may have advised you to drink 2 litres of fluids (4 pints) during the day, more if you are doing exercises that make you sweat or perspiring in hot weather.
Avatar f tn I suggest you see a different doctor, one who knows more about kidney stones. In fact the doctor should refer you to a urologist. Best wishes.
997798 tn?1250089433 Hi. I have had stones for over 30 years and only over the past 5 years had the symptoms you describe. A burning sharp horrible pain so bad I went to the hospital..I mean I'm normally very good with pain I've given birth naturally! But this pain made me cry like a baby .. they tested my urine and there was some slight blood in there as well as some white blood cells ? Avatar m tn She has had them enough she is on several medicines for the symptoms of the stones and the symptoms of the medicines she takes.
Avatar f tn s are only about 75% , they mainly show obstruction, a small stones as my URO has explained to me that small stones can turn and then suddenly obstruction again. Also Uric acid stones don't show up on IVP's either. If you continue to have symptoms they may have to do a ureterscopic surgery to check it out. Also if you have a chronic infection or the bacteria you are fighting are resistant then the antibiotics your taking will do nothing.
Avatar m tn i have been to see my gp a month ago with kidney stones, painfull cramps ,the pain has gone but im passing alot of blood when i urinate and it also stings when i urinate which is about 20 times a day im male and 29 years old any help please
Avatar f tn UTI can also be due to the polycystic kidney disease as well. Kidney stones and kidney failure are late-stage symptoms of the disease. I suggest you an immediate urologist’s evaluation. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option. Also her renal functions need to be studied.
Avatar n tn E with severe pain in my back right hand side just underneath my ribs. After many scans, tests and ultrasounds I was told I had kidney stones. After months more of scans and wasted time I saw a kidney stone specialist who has said the stones are still in my kidney and that the pain I am still experiencing is not caused by them. I'm now at a loss as to what it can be as I was sure the two were related, especially with so many people confirming kidney stones do cause a lot of pain.
