Avatar f tn The treatment for kidney stones depends on their size and what they are made of and also if they are causing pain or obstructing the urinary tract. Small stones usually pass through the urinary tract without treatment. It is good advice to stay well hydrated as that should prevent the stones from getting any bigger or new ones from forming. For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .
Avatar n tn what is the common treatment for someone that has a history of kidney stones if entering the ER. shouldn't this pt get a stent?
Avatar m tn I think this is a rational concern. Yes, kidney stones can cause damage to the kidneys. Not all the time though. It can cause the kidney to atrophy, thin and not function as well. Or an infection can happen related to the stones. But, when the damage happens, it is usually when the stones are not detectible in terms of symptoms. The person doesn't have pain so they go a very long time with the stone. You had pain and are scheduled for surgery.
Avatar m tn Hello, Since the kindey stone is 7 mm, so the symptoms seem unrelated to the kidney stones. Since you are having pedal or leg edema, hence your cardiac, liver and kidney functions need to be assessed for which I suggest you to consult a physician immediately. Abdominal causes like irritable bowel syndrome can also cause such symptoms. Common symptoms include abdominal cramping or pain, bloating and gassiness, and altered bowel habits(alternate constipation and loose stools).
Avatar f tn That's too bad. Can you be more specific for what you have tried so far? Are you working with a doctor? This article has ways to combat kidney stones. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/kidney-stones/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20355759 A 9mm kidney stone is big and those often don't pass on their own. Avatar n tn These agents aren't known to cause kidney stones. Most kidney stones in the US are caused by our diet which is rich in meat protein. Calcium supplementation does increase the risk of kidney stones. As far as the blood pressure goes, he should probably have his dose of the lisinopril reduced. Alternatively, there are other agents such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers or Angiotensine receptor blockers that can also be tried. I would probably avoid diuretics at this point.
Avatar f tn I am new to this but I wanted to get on and figure out if anyone has had any symptoms like me.... I have had a pain in my right lower back since January. It started out only coming about once a month over my period...then it became more frequent. I went to the doctor and he sent me to a urologist. He said that I had kidney stones. But they were still in my kidney and they don't hurt while in the kidney. He did many cat scans, xrays, and a 24 hour urine test.

Avatar n tn The size, configuration, and location affect the spontaneous passage of these stones. However, these may recur. There are different of types of kidney stones and calcium oxalate is the most common stone that forms. To prevent them from forming regularly, drink plenty of water and have a proper diet. Take care and best regards.
5739386 tn?1378836460 Omg I swear kidney stones are no joke. They hurt like hell. I had it on both kidneys but they said it passed and the one on my left side was just swollen from it. And I had blood in my urine. I was in so much pain and crying. I hope it don't come back I only got 11 weeks left. Because I can't deal with that again. That had to give me Medication for pain, my sickness cuz I threw up. And one for infection they said my urine came back clean so mayb that's for the kidney part.
Avatar m tn m figuring that kidney stones take a while to form and that, if I have kidney stones and possibly an infection, it's likely that I had the kidney stones first and they contributed to the infection, rather that having an infection first that contributed to the kidney stones (sorry if this sounds confusing).

Avatar f tn Medullary sponge kidney disease may be asymptomatic in most people .Few people may have a UTI or kidney stone. UTIs and kidney stones share many of the same symptoms.MSK is suspected in patients with repeated UTIs or kidney stones. An x ray called an intravenous pyelogram can help confirm the diagnosis. No treatment can get rid of cysts in the affected kidneys.
Avatar f tn Hi and WELCOME to our Kidney Stone Community. I'm not a doctor, but do have too much experience with kidney stones. For me, I'd get pings and pangs in my kidney as well as microhematuria (blood you cannot see by eye) in my urine when I have stones. I've also had the flank pain you describe .. for me it's been in the lower back. I hope with lots of water your stones move out for you uneveventfully. Please keep in touch. From what I've read stones <5.
Avatar f tn He was taken out by severe pain about 6 months ago when in his home country of Zimbabwe, he was found to have kidney stones and treated for them. The pain subsided for a while but then reoccurred when back in England. He has been to the doctors who sent him to a urinary tract specialist. They found he had swollen kidneys and liver, his tubes either side of his abdomen were swollen but they could find no obvious cause.
Avatar m tn After spending the week in hospital waiting for the operation and several more CT scans and blood tests, I was told I no longer needed to be operated on and could return home. The doctor said that the pain was probably caused by stones and i have passed them. But im sure I would know if I did pas any stones! After this I had a mild pain in my side and around my back that i wthought would just go away but it didnt.
