Avatar n tn When I was 7 months pregnant I was rushed to emergency with severe left flank pain. It was determined that I had kidney stones. Approximately 2 years later, it happened again, only on the right side. There was blood in my urine, my white blood cell count was elevated, and severe pain again. An ultrasound found imflamation, thus my doctor determined I had an infection and was prescribed antibiotics. However, I still have mild (throbbing/aching) flank pain on my right side.
Avatar m tn m figuring that kidney stones take a while to form and that, if I have kidney stones and possibly an infection, it's likely that I had the kidney stones first and they contributed to the infection, rather that having an infection first that contributed to the kidney stones (sorry if this sounds confusing).
Avatar m tn but he also brought up the (remote possibility) of kidney cancer, due to the presence of hematuria and my right-side flank pain. He referred me to a urologist and I will likely see him next week. So, of course, with all this time to poke around the internet, I've convinced myself that the latter is the more likely diagnosis. I keep waiting for the intense pain and other symptoms of a passing kidney stone..
Avatar n tn Hi, Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage—on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters—they can cause obstruction of the ureter.
Avatar n tn I have pain in my left flank on my back. Dull constant pain that aches. When ever I lay down its hard to get comfortable. Moving from sitting to standing hurts. Do have a history of kidney stones. Feels like kidney area, but I have no urination problems. Nor a fever.
583644 tn?1221445546 My body tells me it is my kidneys. I have kidney stones, but my GP insists that the pain is not from my kidney stones because they are not obstructing the duct. I asked him if it was possible that my stones were moving around and he told me that kidney stones do not move around and they do not cause pain.
Avatar m tn I did not really notice any other symptoms other than some pain in my flank days before and pain in my side. I have since passed (I think) two other very small stones in a year's time. My question is two-fold; has anyone else been plagued with incredible pain urinating even after the stone has passed (extended for weeks sometimes), and is there always severe flank pain before passing a stone (I have minor if any at all) ?
Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? Are there other signs or symptoms present? Are you still experiencing the pain? Kidney pain usually is felt in the flank area, and not on the upper abdomen. Can you elaborate on your blood pressure readings? If it persists, i would recommend that you have this evaluated further by your doctor. With your history of elevated blood pressure and tachycardia, other tests such as ECG and blood tests may be done to rule out cardiac and gastrointestinal causes.
Avatar f tn he has had previous issues with kidney stones since he was a freshman in highschool. he says this pain is different from the pain he has had experienced from his kidney stones. if you have any ideas as to what this could be i would greatly appreciate it.
Avatar n tn Renal colic can be asymptomatic and symptomatic. Symptoms range from flank pain, urinary tract obstruaction, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting to severe azotemia and urosepsis. Causes for the formation of renal colic can be inadequate hydration, diet comprising of animal fats and too much calcium, infections, errors in metabolism which lead to accumulation of some salts preparing a ground for the formation of stones in the kidney, malfunctioning of the kidney etc.
Avatar n tn Kidney stones are painful and I have been hospitalized too many times to count just to get antibiotics and iv dilodid for a week each time and still got sent home on strong pain killers. The only thing worse than kidney stones is kidney stones while pregnant. It is a different kind of pain then delivery. Labor is a pain that has a reward for going through it. Passing kidney stones is a pain with no reward other than the end of the pain.
Avatar n tn I am a 37 years old female with chronic bilateral flank pain that is not constant but intermittent - I had several test done including but not excluding IVP/CAT SCAN (12 times) / checked for parathyroid / kidney function etc...although I have had 8 kidney surgeries within the past 19 months, most of the time (90%) of the time, stones do not show on CAT SCAN / KUB/XRAYS / IVP but are certainly present.
Avatar n tn Hi, Are there other symptoms present? A kidney stone is a solid mass made up of tiny crystals which may present as abdominal pain, blood in the urine, chills, excess urination at night, fever, flank pain or back pain, painful urination or urinary frequency/urgency. Abdominal CT scan, xrays or ultrasound of the kidneys will confirm the diagnosis of kidney stones. Menstruation problems are hormone and stress related.
Avatar f tn Went to my reg MD - he did a Renal sonogram and blood test (thought maybe kidney stones). Everything came back normal. Still having pain. Sometimes its slight and sometimes its strong - either a soreness or poking (weird). Have to go back to MD on monday - he said i may need an abdominal CT scan. Worried worried worried. Any thoughts? Could it be kidney stones that were not detected?
Avatar f tn I have a 15 yr. history with kidney stones. I had my most recent attack 3 weeks ago and it was one of the longest enduring of any I've had, with the most severe flank and ureter pain lasting almost 12 hrs. The last couple hours of the horrible pain, I experienced what I would almost call spasms very low down, and I've never had that before in any of the other attacks. I had waves of pain and the urge to urinate every few minutes.
997798 tn?1250089433 Hi. I have had stones for over 30 years and only over the past 5 years had the symptoms you describe. Is the stone exiting the right kidney? <<<<"along with the pain I now have on my right side" = FLANK PAIN. Please google it and see if it matches up to the pain on the side. Is this your first stone? You need to do 24 hour urines and have the stone analyized, VERY important. DRINK DRINK DRINK ALL THE WATER YOU POSSIBLY CAN FORCE IT.
1012861 tn?1250949418 I posted a question before about kidney stones that I have. I have 2 stones in my left kidney one 5mm and the other 2mm. I haven't had any problems with them in about a month and then last night out of no where I start having left sided flank pain and passing a lot of blood in my urine. I ended up going to the hospital for the pain. They did another CT scan and told me that the stones had not moved at all from the last CT. They gave me a shot of Torodol and sent me home.
Avatar f tn Off and on for a year, but now daily, I have left flank pain that feels like you implanted a tennis ball in my back! I have no blood in my urine, no trouble urinating or bowel movement problems, but when this comes on, I can't even stand up. I take 2 Alieve, 4 200mg Ibuprofen, 3 antiacid pills, 2 Vit C every morning to cope with it. When that doesn't work, I take a hot shower and add a lidoderm patch and my heating pad. A few hours later, some relief.
Avatar f tn I had some pain in September 2016 and a diagnosed kidney stone at that time. But the pain didn't really start until January this year. I had severe flank pain on both sides and abdominal pain especially after eating. Was admitted and treated for kidney infection. A few weeks later they found out my Gallbladder was overactive and removed it. Now I just have the flank pain on both sides. It is killing me.
