Yes bilateral nephrolithiasis i.e. stone formation in both the kidneys can be present at the same time. Kidney stones are of four types: calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones.
I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone.
Anyone ever get kidney pain or kidney stones while pregnant? This is my 4th pregnancy and with every pregnancy I have had, I get really bad pain in my right kidney which later result in kidney stones it occures more then one time per pregnancy, my doctor says it's normal... Anyone else's doctor said anything different please let me know thanks.
Causes for the formation of renal colic can be inadequate hydration, diet comprising of animal fats and too much calcium, infections, errors in metabolism which lead to accumulation of some salts preparing a ground for the formation of stones in the kidney, malfunctioning of the kidney etc.
It is advised to get a ultrasound of abdomen done along with DMSA scan of both kidneys which would reveal the functioning capacity of the kidneys.

Hematuria or blood in the urine may be a symptom of recurrent kidney stones. Are there other signs or symptoms present? There is an increased chance of stone recurrence with patients with history of stone formation. A urinalysis and ultrasound of the KUB may be able to help with the diagnosis. It would be best to see your doctor for furtehr evaluation and management.

In hospital for a month but came out of it. I was told and I have seen 10 kidney stones in right kidney and 12 in left kidney. Docs say they are calcified or as they put it (christy your kidneys are calcifying and lithotripsy won't work at this stage). I am 46 and have had these stones for 6 years. I get infections,smells, can't have xex cause of the odor, and cramps that make me feel I am still on my mensural.
The other day i went to use the bathroom and when i urinated it burned pretty bad. I have always had UTI's and Kidney infections plus Kidneys stones on top of many bladder infections but all the doctors do is give me antibiotics and it clears up and when i go back to the doc. i always seem to have them again. in my teens i would have them so much and when the doctors said i had blood in my urine they would ask the famous ?
The common symptoms are pain in the back, haematuria, excessive amount of calcium in the urine. The complications are kidney stones, infection and kidney failure. Treatment is usually symptomatic. It is best to consult an urologist and get your doubts clarified. Do keep me posted with more queries.

Here is a little of my history. I'm a 29 year old male. I was diagnosed with PKD (polycystic kidney disease) at the age of 18. Well this last week my kidney pain changed and I knew something was wrong. Couldn't get comfortable no matter what. Lots of pain. Comes in waves from my kidney to my lower abdomen even towards my bladder. Want to er where they did a CT and discovered several small stones in both kidneys and of course a ton of cysts.
I have had a KUB that has detected approximately 8 stones in my left kidney and 14 stones in my right. I even had lithotripsy on a 7 mm stone on the left. I continue to have the pain on the right. My doctor says that I should not be having this pain because none of the stones are big enough (all 3-5 mm) to block anything. However, still the pain. He has prescribed Vicodin, which helps a little, but I am beginning to feel a little like a druggie.
t help. Thought I was passing stones but still in kidney. CT taken shows have more stones in both kidneys. Mass is just birth defect. Am going back to urologist on Wednesday- he was gone for the week. Pain has been pretty bad - there most of the time - varies in intensity. Bones are screaming again and stomach is hurting like did when had the hyperparathyroidism. Worse when the stones move around.
Before I tx'd, I had to get lithotripsies on both kidneys to get rid of kidney stones. I think the HCV made me more prone to making kidney stones, but my doctor is not so sure.
Since finishing tx in early Oct, I passed 2 peppercorn-sized kidney stones on my own. I'd like to think it means the state of my kidneys is getting better...
I had my first doctor appt today since my mc in august AND since finding out I'm pregnant again...I have been having unbearable back pain and so I mentioned it to my doctor and he said it doesn't sound muscular because heat, massage and stretching isn't helping, he said it could be something wrong with my kidneys, he got a urine test & blood work ordered which I will find out next week the results...has anyone experienced anything like this?
s been 2 days since I was discharged from the hospital after a week of suffering from kidney stones and ended up having to under go a procedure where they placed a tube in my kidneys and now I have a bag attached to my side until after I deliver. I've never felt so much discomfort and pain. It's hard for me to do anything I can't even shower properly.

Microscopic hematuria can be due to urinary tract (bladder) infection, swelling in the filtering system of the kidneys ,stone in bladder or in a kidney, blood disease, like sickle cell anemia, certain medicines and tumors in the urinary tract.
You have already undergone cystoscopy which has ruled out most of the cases. I suggest you to get done an ultrasound abdomen to look for any kidney stone and blood tests for sickle cell anemia.

How unusual is it for the stones to be in this meaty part of my kidney and since they are still in my kidney aren’t they just going to continue to grow larger? Are these stones causing damage to my kidneys? They don’t seem to be causing any blockages based on the ultrasounds that have been done, but I still have had frequent flank pain and blood visible in my urine prior to the surgery. Is there any hope that I will be able to be stone free and prevent more stones?
