I have been suffering from chronic kidney stones for 19 years, multiple stones, multiple sizes in both kidneys. I hae not been stone free anytime since the first one passed in 1991. I hve had over 200 + stone related surgeries, everyone of them. I made 50 new stones from Nov. to Jan, this year. I am on my 3rd surgery since september now and awaiting another one due to an 8 mm stone.
Blood in urine is a sign of a really bad bladder infection or kidney stones..I had kidney stones with my first and never peed blood..got kidney stones again this pregnancy was peeing blood they said bladder infection but I ended up in hospital 3 days later with kidney stone attack so I either had both or was trying to pass stones..I would call my doctor so they can get a urine sample while you are peeing the blood out..

m not going to be 100% positive on it, but if your son drank cranberry juice (lots of it) check into the effects of the oxalates(in cranberries) and the calcium(in your urine) building up to possibly form kidney stones, the last question on the linked page will be helpful if that's the case.

If not, the doctors could be just concerning about kidney infection due to the bladder infection which can get very serious.
If with symptom, a person feels a sharp, cramping pain in the back and side in the area of the kidney or in the lower abdomen. If the stone is too large to pass easily, pain as well as blood may appear in the urine. Your symptoms highly suggest kidney stones but I recommend that you have this evaluated further by your doctor. Diagnosis is through an x ray or ultrasound. It's been several days since you posted how are you doing today? Again if it a kidney stone the pain can wax and wain as the stone moves and then can stop. If it's a very tiny stone, gravel..
My mother is 50 years old and has a history of kidney stones for more than 10 years. 2 years back, the ultra sound showed no signs of kidney stones. But 1 month back, she again got the pain in the kidney area and the utrasound now showed small right renal calculus and Moderate right hydronephrosis with dilated upper and mid ureter.
The doctor asked to get a CT scan for KUB correlation. The CT scan report states that right kidney is bulky and oedematous and Calculus measuring 7.0 X 3.

Hematuria or blood in the urine may be a symptom of recurrent kidney stones. Are there other signs or symptoms present? There is an increased chance of stone recurrence with patients with history of stone formation. A urinalysis and ultrasound of the KUB may be able to help with the diagnosis. It would be best to see your doctor for furtehr evaluation and management.

My cat Mini is a 6-year old male cat and has recently diagnosed CRF. Also kidney stones are found in the L kidney and one in the L ureter. The vet in Hong Kong said there's nothing we can do to get rid of the stone in the ureter, only surgery of removing the L kidney, but since his R kidney is not healthy as well (calcium deposits found in the R kidney), complication rate is very high, death rate is like 60%.
I have had a KUB that has detected approximately 8 stones in my left kidney and 14 stones in my right. I even had lithotripsy on a 7 mm stone on the left. I continue to have the pain on the right. My doctor says that I should not be having this pain because none of the stones are big enough (all 3-5 mm) to block anything. However, still the pain. He has prescribed Vicodin, which helps a little, but I am beginning to feel a little like a druggie.
Is it normal for stones stuck in the kidney to cause so much pain?? Could the fact that I have pkd be making the pain from these stones worse...I guess I'll be headed back to er if pain doesn't let up before I run out of the few pills I have until I see my urologist. Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately, you can get kidney stones that you have pain in the abdomen (or no pain at all). I am one of the very unlucky people who gets kidney stones ALOT. I've had five surgeries with stents put in to remove the stones. My inital problem would be blood in the urine without infection. I've had plenty of stones in the kidney (no pain) but when they travel away from the kidney is when they can cause all kinds of issue.

based on your description, you might be having kidney stones. the best way to check that is to have your urine tested. once you have your test results, there might be additional imaging tests like xrays and ultrasounds to measure the size of these stones (if ever there are)

I am new to this but I wanted to get on and figure out if anyone has had any symptoms like me....
I have had a pain in my right lower back since January. It started out only coming about once a month over my period...then it became more frequent. I went to the doctor and he sent me to a urologist. He said that I had kidney stones. But they were still in my kidney and they don't hurt while in the kidney. He did many cat scans, xrays, and a 24 hour urine test.
