18533109 tn?1465640552 OK, first off stones start off in the kidneys, most are formed from oxalate, not from a urinary infection. Now, kidney stones can make you feel like you have in infection, or may indeed cause an infection in the area (ureter) they are, if they are in the ureter, that is one of two tubes that come from the kidneys, one tube for each kidney about 6m or so in diameter, in females they are about 50-70mm long each one empties urine in the bladder and then pass through the larger diameter urethra.
244602 tn?1215975628 com/user/villandra Current stone in the left kidney, and former stone in right kidney, are in separate photos, and photos of the passed kidney stone from the right kidney are in yet another folder. Is it possible to discern what sort of a kidney stone is in my left kidney, from its appearance in the CT scan and the ultrasound? Radiologist's opinion on the ultrasound is it "might" be a kidney stone, though it is in the same location as the actual kidney stone on the CT scan.
Avatar f tn Had to get a ultrasound todau and I have trying to look up healthy ultrasounds of kidneys vs unhealthy or kidney stones and cancer vs healthy with no luck I might add. if you have any info please let me know thanks for your time reading this.
Avatar n tn Gross hematuria (blood in urine) visible to naked eye is seen in kidney and bladder stones, cancer of kidney, UTI or urinary tract infection, sickle cell anemia, bladder endometriosis (in females), low platelet count, bladder injury and bladder infections. Apart from urine examination, you would need some other blood tests, imaging tests and maybe cystoscopy. Since you also have a sore throat, a streptococcal infection involving both the throat and the kidney should also be looked into.
192055 tn?1263555537 I went to the hospital in May with sever kidney pains in both kidneys that had been hurting for two weeks. I heard that stones run in all the females in the family so I went to the doctor. Doctor said there was a little blood in my urine so ordered a CT scan. Nothing showed up in the CT scan. A few days later... felt something moving from my kidney to my bladder... I got really hot and sweaty and really nauseous. I have not caught any stones in a strainer.
Avatar f tn To diagnose a UTI please get a complete urine examination and urine culture done. The other causes are prostatitis in males, vaginitis in females and STD’s. Complete profile of investigations are needed to confirm a diagnosis for which I suggest you to consult a urologist, It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn took a bunch to another urologist- they said it looked weird, but thought it was blood clots taking on the shape of the ureter- possibly skin cells being scraped off by the large stone forming in the ureter- I asked them to please send it out for analysis as it would seem to me a blood clot would easily fall apart if handled, ie squeezing it pressing on it to see if it would break etc-, these do not- it's almost like they are made of a tough tissue- and do not fall apart easily- I dunno wher
Avatar n tn Since you can actually see the blood in urine, you should rule out clotting disorders including low platelet count. Gross hematuria visible to naked eye is also seen in kidney and bladder stones, cancer of kidney, sickle cell anemia, bladder endometriosis, low platelet count, bladder injury and bladder infections. Apart from urine examination, you would need some other blood tests and imaging tests and maybe cystoscopy. Do discuss this with your doctor (urologist) and get yourself examined.
1715474 tn?1318189449 Hello, Recurrent UTI’s could be due to various reasons. Most common cause is stones in kidney which is blocking urine pathway. Other causes are changing sexual partners frequently, pregnancy, diabetes and of course childhood infections. The urine can also be due to retention of urine anywhere in its flow due t obstruction. The obstruction can be due to abnormality of structures since birth, stones or diseases like tumors. Females are more prone to urine infections.
Avatar f tn Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, kidney stones, constipation, ovary involvement in women, ectopic pregnancy in women (ruled out due to long history) , and mesentry (a thin tissue that carries the blood, nerves and lymphatics for the intestine) involvement.

440941 tn?1243648084 It can be due to medical conditions of the kidneys like tubular necrosis, cystitis, glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis ,kidney stones or tumors. It can also indicate chronic kidney disease. I would suggest a nephrologist’s consultation and further investigations to confirm the cause. I hope that helps.Take care and regards.
192055 tn?1263555537 I have every symptom of kidney stones and its runs in every female in my family. -For 2 weeks had extreme sharp pack pains -Then turned into a dull, constant pain in my lower right back (kidney) -Went to the doc, found blood, no bacteria, in my urine -Slowly both kidneys started to hurt... -All of a sudden, one night, i was sitting down, I got really hot, started to sweat, and felt nauseated. I felt something moving in my left abdomin... not a pro but felt like it could be a stone moving down.
Avatar n tn I have had kidney stones repeatedly in the past, and a few times I really thought I was experiencing them again. I went to the hospital and they said there were no kidney stones, but the pain gets worse every night. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but I have had to call in late to work because I couldn't dress myself. The pain eventually subsides, but I really don't want to live with this much longer.
Avatar n tn Low hematocrit is due to anemia, malnutrition, destruction of red cells by spleen, bone marrow failure, and blood loss as in stomach ulcers and irritable bowel disease or in kidney stones. Leukemia, multiple myeloma and rheumatoid arthritis are the other problems with low hematocrit. The normal range for men is generally 40.7 to 50.7 with 45-46 being optimum. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn Never heard of that. Small stones in the bladder of passing a kidney stone, a bad infection I think, interstitial cystitis and I think cancer as well can cause blood in your urine. Drinking more water may help, not cure, with an infection and might dilute the urine more, making it more obscure to your eyes, but please, please, don't just try to treat such a serious thing at home without seeing a doctor about it!
Avatar f tn I have only been on Topamax for my migraines since November 2010 and by January I had four kidney stones. One in my left kidney and three in my right. Now I have been taken off Topamax and it was so far the best medication for my migraines I was on 100mg of Topamax and went from having a migraine everyday to once a month. I miss Topamax but the pain of my kidney stones was much worse.
Avatar n tn I just had that happen to me about a week ago. I went in for possibly kidney stones (runs in all the females in the family) found blood in my urine, and the ct scan came back normal. The doc just said that maybe the stone was too small to be picked up in the scan. I even felt a very small stone pass through my abdomin...

Avatar f tn Blood in urine is a sign of a really bad bladder infection or kidney stones..I had kidney stones with my first and never peed blood..got kidney stones again this pregnancy was peeing blood they said bladder infection but I ended up in hospital 3 days later with kidney stone attack so I either had both or was trying to pass stones..I would call my doctor so they can get a urine sample while you are peeing the blood out..
Avatar f tn Lower back pain and frequent urination can be due to spinal causes causing pinched nerve, diabetes, interstitial cystitis, overactive bladder syndrome, neurological diseases, urinary incontinence and bladder dysfunction. In females, urethritis has to be ruled out. It is a primarily female syndrome in which women suffer from irritative bladder symptoms (urinary frequency, urgency, burning and a hesitant or slowed urinary stream) in the absence of any objective urologic findings.

Avatar n tn m not going to be 100% positive on it, but if your son drank cranberry juice (lots of it) check into the effects of the oxalates(in cranberries) and the calcium(in your urine) building up to possibly form kidney stones, the last question on the linked page will be helpful if that's the case. http://www.uti-cleanse.com/faqs.php If not, the doctors could be just concerning about kidney infection due to the bladder infection which can get very serious.
Avatar f tn Hello, The openings of urethra and vagina are different and if you are having blood in urine then it can be due to UTI. In females it can be due to UTI. Presence of visible blood clots in urine is called gross hematuria or macroscopic hematuria. This signifies any underlying medical conditions which needs investigations to confirm.
Avatar n tn If with symptom, a person feels a sharp, cramping pain in the back and side in the area of the kidney or in the lower abdomen. If the stone is too large to pass easily, pain as well as blood may appear in the urine. Your symptoms highly suggest kidney stones but I recommend that you have this evaluated further by your doctor. Diagnosis is through an x ray or ultrasound. The results of these tests help determine the proper treatment. Furthermore, the chance of recurring stones is high.
Avatar n tn Other possibilities are irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis(inflammation of the liver), kidney stones, pneumonia, musculoskeletal pain, lower rib fracture and malignancy. Irritation of the nerves supplying this area can also cause pain. Irritation can be due to nerve compression or pinching due to any spine related pathology. In females, ovarian pathology can cause such symptoms. You should get an ultrasound right upper abdominal area done to confirm the diagnosis.
