Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones diet restrictions

Avatar f tn Went to Urologist for daughter's history with kidney stones. Original xray in February showed 2 stones. We did confirm she passed 1 of those stones in February. Not sure if other ever passed. Advised by doctors that it must of passed by now..... Urologist said that probably with this last episode, just over a week ago, must of passed other stone. Although we've been straining it, and haven't seen it. Said to wait and watch her for now.
Avatar f tn She was very sick just over a week before she was diagnosed, and they don't know if she was sick from the kidney stones,or if she had the stomach flu,and getting dehydrated caused the kidney stones. However she never really got too "dehydrated" when she was so sick. She did vomit alot, but was still having plenty of urine. So who knows. Any experience on how long these things take to pass? Thanks again.
Avatar m tn It was found that my stone was calcium based and I was told to avoid all dairy products as well as some fruit and veg. There are 4 different types of kidney stones. Unfortunately, once you have had kidney stones the chances of getting another one are much higher.
Avatar f tn (My father suffers from kidney stones). I have been drinking lots of water and herbal teas. One doctor I spoke with over the phone suggested Bactrim antibiotic for 8 days. When I drink lots of water, it feels somewhat better. So I've been on bactrim for 2 days now, but I see no difference. According to you can this irritation be due to those crystals in urine, provoking this problem? Can antibiotics make it all worse if not bacteria was the cause of the irritation?
Avatar n tn He experienced kidney stones as an infant, took adult dose diurectics for several years and restrictions were placed on Vitamion D, calcium and salt intake. Since approx age 6 he has been symptom free and 'cleared' by the nephrology clinic at Childres Hospital withou commnet. He has grown into a 6'5", 270 football playing behemoth, and wants to begin supplmenting his diet (during offseason weight lifting workouts) with Creatine for increased muscle mass.
Avatar n tn Tomatoes and spinach have higher amounts of oxalates and can increase the risk of developing kidney stones. kidney stones can become serious if not treated adequately at the right time, as they can cause obstruction to urine outflow resulting in kidney damage, injury to the ureters resulting in blood in urine and frequent infections. Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
Avatar m tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! kidney stones at times dislodge by themselves and the pain disappears. There are numerous speculations in alternative medicines which say that the stones disappear on medication, but Allopathy does not have any such treatment. Drink plenty of fluids, try apple cider and cranberry juice. These tips may help to flush out the stone if it breaks (but less likely).
Avatar m tn People I know what I am talking about I have had kidney stones/kidney disease since 1965. Your doctor is wrong most kidney stones can be treated: the goal is to stop or slow down the formation of them. This is accomplished through metabolic testing... which many be done by a nephrologist in some parts of the US. Once it is determined what is causing the stones to form and the composition of them..
Avatar f tn I had been diagnosed with gallstones along with my kidney stones about 5 years ago. Thinking back I must have had some mild attacks here and there. I know what you are talking about when you are just waiting around for the doctor's visit. I stayed away from fatty foods, ate more fruits and veggies. It helps a lot to eat more "healthy". I think I googled the gallbladder diet to find out more since it was such a long wait.
Avatar n tn I don't have gout, what they are more concerned about is my developing kidney stones. Only thing I could find was cherries. Are there any other foods that help? Raised uric acid, above normal levels, is known as hyperuricemia. While uric acid is actually a waste product left over from metabolism of chemical compounds called purines, it can also be found in some foods and alcohol.
696701 tn?1463669932 Here is California our state funded health care it is called MediCal. Understand kidney stones have nothing to do with cirrhosis. What ever symptoms you had pain, etc. had nothing to do with your liver. “My mucus that I try and cough up is so thick it chokes me and I am unable to cough it up, one time I did and the mucus was green, it is as thick as peanut butter, it's just horrible”. Colored mucus is a sign of an infection not a symptoms of liver disease.
Avatar n tn Hi, All I can say to you is to follow the diet restrictions I have spoken of. See about getting yourself to a University. They actually believe you and care there. in the mean time, ask your dr. for a standing blood test. Specifically to check your amalyse and lipase levels. During an attack that would send you to the ER, these would be elevated. This might also occur during an intense bout with the pain that DOES NOT send you packing to the ER.
Avatar f tn Finally let it out all the way, now the port has pulled and is causing great pain next to my navel. Plus I've developed kidney stones, because I could never drink enough water and keep it down. in fact I would wake up during the night chocking on water so I had to sleep sitting up. I'm trying to get the $3800. together to have it taken out. It has ruined my heath in every way. I was never sick before I had it done.
Avatar m tn Hi, Most commonly, kidney pain is caused due to kidney stones or a kidney infection. kidney pain can be dull, persistent lower back pain radiating to the lower limbs or colicky in nature if caused by a kidney stone moving down the urethra. This can be associated with nausea and passing blood in the urine also. Irritable bladder syndrome can present with increased frequency, pain, and or an overactive bladder.
Avatar n tn My last ultrasound shows cysts on one of my kidneys. And the IVP (as does the regular xrays) shows 2 stones in a pocket in the same kidney. Second question: It is my understanding that one can have MSK and PCK at the same time? When I lived in Dallas, I had gone to an allergist. Two of the things he said I had reactions and was allergic to are: Vitamin C and Potassium.
Avatar n tn My kidneys give me terrible pain on a regular basis and I have had 3 kidney stones since last summer. What I am really concerned about though is my Liver. I have been having my blood done once a month and my GGT levels keep going up. The last, Feb.27th 2000 GGT level was 200. It is my understanding that the normal number's are 11-63?? My Family Doctor has not been much help and has been giving me the ' wait and see' attitude.
Avatar n tn symptoms of anxiety, depression, neuro problems such as tics, tremors, muscular twitches, memory loss, IBS, instability of blood sugars, cramps, asthma, blood clots, bowel disease, diabetes, fatigue, heart disease, hypertension, hypoglycemia, insomnia, migraines, fibromyalgia, kidney stones, migraine, grinding teeth, osteoporosis, Reynaud's syndrome, tooth decay, etc.. are all signs of Magnesium deficiency. If I could direct you my co hypothyroid sufferers to look at Magnesium supplementation.
233616 tn?1312790796 However I stopped all adjuncts when the kidney stones showed up. kidney stones were undoubtedly due to the parathyroid tumor, but many adjuncts are all bound with dolomite or some such calcium product, bone meal, whatever, and ergo contraindicated until I got my calcium levels to equalize and gave those stones time to resolve.
5285867 tn?1365996892 They never give a diet restrictions after gall bladder surgery. Please cut down on the rich food. Eat very lean! Food log is excellent, the bile has no where to go. I am on a super strict diet but this is how everyone should be eating in the first place. If any one needs to skype me please do so.
Avatar m tn Important difference since C is highly acidic and were excess not removes it would cause great damage, including kidney stones. B is a complex of importance to the extent that B is manufactured in a healthy (I stress healthy gut) we need the B complex to make our food absorb-able but we have a colony of friendly bacterium living in our intestines that actually produce some for us, this in turn makes our complex amino acid proteins into absorbabe compounds.
Avatar n tn It's an urban myth...gallstones, unlike kidney stones can not be dissolved - and even if they could, you would NOT want the remnants of them "passing through" as this "flush" suggests would happen....the fragments or small stones would become trapped, possibly in the bile duct. This old wives' tale is at best useless and at worst dangerous...please don't even try it....
Avatar n tn I haven't been doing much in the way of exercise as I fractured my leg just after starting the diet. When you come off the diet, you have flush your body of the HCG. You do this by eating the same drinking & 500 cal diet for 3 more days while not getting the HCG. Then you can eat anything you want as long as it doesn't have fats or carbs in it for 3 weeks AND you don't gain or lose more than 2 pounds going above your last lowest weight while on the drops.
579258 tn?1250652943 My other really big hurdle to overcome is to somehow get to drinking more water .. I have propensity and history of kidney stones and should drink more than I do on a daily basis; I have found I enjoy fruit juices instead and those have added useless calories in them but taste good ... the add-in flavor packets I don't care for ... many are too acid and give me small pimples on my tongue which hurt alot for days ....
Avatar f tn Since then, I contracted a Super Virus, and now have stage 4 heart failure and have suffered a HA, stage 5 kidney failure(end stage). I am a card carrying pacemaker/defib recipient, with a Merlin(24 hour heart monitor, in house), I am a home hemodialysis patient, with my husband trained as my technician and we do dialysis 6 days a week. With all of that, and the fact that I've been told more times that I can remember, that I am terminal, I still have a life.
Avatar n tn I have not been exercising because I am recuperating from a double total knee replacement, but hope to start on a treadmill soon. I am faithful about drinking the water each day to avoid the kidney stones that are a very real side effect. I don't think I am going to be able to take a much larger dose than what I am presently taking. Anyone else have a comment on their dosage. I presently weight 218 lbs and I am 5'3". I would like to get down to about 160 to be healthy.
Avatar n tn still in pain and now they are looking back and seeing that all of the pain could actually be going back to the fact that I have chronic kidney stones! Stupid freakin doctors! They are human just like us. I have no clue why we put so much faith in them! Plus....I have gained 27lbs and ..... If you are doing this because of anything endometriosis related issues do your research. No matter what the doctor tells can still come back after a full hysterectomy.
Avatar n tn It's as if I need to start (I know b/c I'm on the pill) but since I can't, I just get the gas? Or would it have to do with diet? I've changed my diet, adding more fiber and I wonder if it has something to do with that? Please advise.
Avatar m tn Some smells can come from liver or kidney diseases, or from acid reflux in the stomach. 8. Some smells can come from having a bad mix of bacteria in the intestines, and somehow the smell comes out through the sinuses or lungs. The best solution that I have seen is The Schwarzbein Principle by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein, MD. 9. There is a disease called atrophic rhinitis, which involves the decay of the mucus membranes in the sinuses.
Avatar n tn Those using Topomax need to be especially mindful about drinking plenty of fluids due to increased chances of kidney stones. stoney will likely develop if fluid intake is not maintained. Looking forward to weight loss benefit as I gained 30# over the past 4 years on anti-depressents. Has anyone used this for bipolar?
Avatar f tn I know from your previous posts that they have already decided your adrenal tumor is BENIGN. in my opinion, benign is benign. Does it matter how big it is, unless they have explained what problem it is causing. I strongly believe that what needs to be investigated, to determine IF, the tumor should come out, is whether or not it is secreting. I believe from your previous posts, that everything EXCEPT cortisol has been tested. Why have they not tested cortisol levels for you? I have a 4.
