Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones diet in women

kidney-stones

Avatar m tn A recent article in our local paper has a dietician recommending a diet for minimizing the formation of kidney stones that is the exact opposite of what the diet my urologist has me on. His diet is based on what seemed logical: low calcium and low oxalates to prevent the combination of the two to form a stone in the kidney.
Avatar f tn I was always told how uncommon it was for a girl my age (first stones were at age 19,I am now 27) to have kidney stones and also plus because I am a woman and women don't tend to get them. I was never ever offered any help even after asking for advice from many doctors on what should I do?? I have had kidney stones at least 3-4 Times a year. But this past month I have passed 10 stones so far and counting. Each time at the ER I am prescribed pain meds and anti nausea pills and sent home.
Avatar n tn I had my first kidney stone send me to the ER in April (5mm). I don't know if it actually passed because there was no evidence, but the pain did stop after 2 weeks. Through testing in June, I know that I have 5 small stones in my left kidney and the kidney has hydroneph... can't remember the word at the moment, but it means enlarged/swollen. My uric acid (1480) and oxaclic acid levels were high. I am now on allopurinol (sp? the bottle is not with me).
Avatar n tn I have had kidney stones since 2001. Currently (as of May 1) I have had a 15 mm and a 10 mm (as well as several of their babies) in my kidney. I have been scheduled for a systoscopy but when I went for my pre-op, I had extremely (dangerous) high blood pressure. I have never had this high blood pressure in my life (even when I went to the emergency room for kidney stone attacks).
1025106 tn?1251861070 bubble in urine can b from too much protein in your diet. Kidney stones can be from too much protein in your diet. and Yess, kidney damage can occur. Change your diet, and cut out alot of the protein. NO red meat, milk, cheeses, etc, etc.. eat lots of fruits and veggies, and DRINK water and cranberry juice alot..
Avatar n tn Causes for the formation of renal colic can be inadequate hydration, diet comprising of animal fats and too much calcium, infections, errors in metabolism which lead to accumulation of some salts preparing a ground for the formation of stones in the kidney, malfunctioning of the kidney etc. It is advised to get a ultrasound of abdomen done along with DMSA scan of both kidneys which would reveal the functioning capacity of the kidneys.
Avatar n tn m not going to be 100% positive on it, but if your son drank cranberry juice (lots of it) check into the effects of the oxalates(in cranberries) and the calcium(in your urine) building up to possibly form kidney stones, the last question on the linked page will be helpful if that's the case. http://www.uti-cleanse.com/faqs.php If not, the doctors could be just concerning about kidney infection due to the bladder infection which can get very serious.

Avatar f tn My cat Mini is a 6-year old male cat and has recently diagnosed CRF. Also kidney stones are found in the L kidney and one in the L ureter. The vet in Hong Kong said there's nothing we can do to get rid of the stone in the ureter, only surgery of removing the L kidney, but since his R kidney is not healthy as well (calcium deposits found in the R kidney), complication rate is very high, death rate is like 60%.
Avatar m tn I have had rounded grains of reddish-orange sand in my urine for over a year. It's painless and they are there in ones and threes, or dozens, hundreds at a time, about once every sixth or eighth time I urinate. The Urologist tells me they are not kidney stones, but at bladder stones, and common, but I can't find a single word about them on the internet (regarding humans). They seem to be mentioned in cats and perhaps goats, and remedied by changes in diet.
Avatar m tn Kindly let me know the diet I should be having, what food I should be avoiding and what I should eat, ( I love eating chicken, fish and goat meat) Also I had read somewhere that there is a possibility of occurance of kidney stones after every 8 years ( which came out true in my case). In that case should I expect to get this extremely painful problem by 2018? Please do reply as I would be getting my next assignment soon.
Avatar f tn Diet and exercise can lessen the severity of kidney stones which may form. Organic diet may be helpful. A diet low in high protein foods like meat, low in high oxalate foods like spinach, rhubarb, peanuts, and low in sodium may help. A diet high in fiber like fruits, vegetables can be very helpful. Vitamin A is helpful in preventing the formation of stones. The good sources of vitamin A are alfalfa, apricots, cantaloupes, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and squash.
Avatar m tn Research alternative health for kidney stones....why are you on a low calcium diet...the body will make stones if their is a defiency...also boron and magnesium will help the body utilize calcium....you might check out 'knowthecause.com and find out what foods to eat.
Avatar n tn Do check your diet. One high in calcium (cheese, milk, yoghurt) and fats can lead to kidney stones. Also you must drink water to keep the kidneys hydrated and efficient. My male friend gets them often and I have watched him go through them and the advice above is what the doctor's tell him every time.
Avatar f tn There are other types as well ( cystine, struvite , uric) Kidney stones may hold a genetic predisposition. In your case, the presence of kidney formers in the family may explain the onset of kidney stones at an earlier age. It is best to open lines of communication with your physicians. At this point, you may discuss on whether a referral to a pain management specialist may help.Continue following physician's advice regarding diet, fluid intake and exercise.
Avatar f tn I just learned through a cat- scan that I had nonobstructing stones in my right kidney. They are small stones 1-3 mm in size. I am pretty sure they are cause by dehydration. I know I don't drink enough through out the day, sometimes I won't urinated for hrs. The cat-scan also showed that I have mild mutilevel degenerative changes in my spine. This is why I am considering taking calcium supplements. Once again, Thank you for your reply.

Avatar n tn Do consult with your doctor about this issue for their guidance. Kidney stones are something we all want to avoid! If our diet can help, good to try, right? Avoiding foods high in oxalate, a compound found in many of them, is the key to this approach. Oxalate is a leading component of many kidney stones with calcium oxalate being the most common type of stone. Foods to avoid: Spinach Bran flakes Rhubarb Beets Potato chips French fries Nuts and nut butters These are high in oxalate.
Avatar n tn I have had a KUB that has detected approximately 8 stones in my left kidney and 14 stones in my right. I even had lithotripsy on a 7 mm stone on the left. I continue to have the pain on the right. My doctor says that I should not be having this pain because none of the stones are big enough (all 3-5 mm) to block anything. However, still the pain. He has prescribed Vicodin, which helps a little, but I am beginning to feel a little like a druggie.
Avatar n tn Other possibilities are irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis(inflammation of the liver), kidney stones, pneumonia, musculoskeletal pain, lower rib fracture and malignancy. Irritation of the nerves supplying this area can also cause pain. Irritation can be due to nerve compression or pinching due to any spine related pathology. In females, ovarian pathology can cause such symptoms. You should get an ultrasound right upper abdominal area done to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I guess I passed it because it settled off and the pain went away. Then when my baby was about 6 months old, I had one move in my other kidney. It was miserable again. After much running, walking, bouncing, and flooding my system with water, I finally passed it right before the urologist got his chance to fish it out! I was sooo relieved!
