Kidney stones causes and prevention

Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones causes and prevention

kidney-stones

not a professional but to me it sounds a lot like you have cystine kidney stones, which are hereditary. that's what I have and I've had 42 lipotripsy surgeries and five where they actually cut through your back. that's within the last 7 years. I too have lost jobs due to it. from experience no diet changes seem to help. you could see a nephrologist instead of an urologist.
He appears to be about 2 years old, and we were told that dals have a tendency to develop bladder stones. I understand they need a chicken or lamb-based diet (no beef) and wonder what other dietary measures we need to take. Are there any supplements we should give him to help prevent stone formation? Maggie, our other pup, is a dal x lab mix, so is it correct to assume she likely has the same tendency and should be treated the same as Doc?
Prevention strategies for kidney stones include - Increasing your daily fluid intake and taking the recommended daily allowance of calcium. Increase your fluid intake to the point where your urine volume reaches 2.5 litres a day. This may mean drinking up to 3 litres a day, if you live in a hot, dry climate or if you are involved in strenuous physical activity. Increasing urine volume decreases the concentration of minerals in the urine. This makes it less likely that a stone will form.
I found out this year that they have always been kidney stones. I was sent to a urologist and told that I have multiple stones in BOTH kidneys. They want to do a 24-hour urine test, but since I keep getting stones, the test keeps getting put off. In the past two weeks, I've had 3 stones. Upon stone analysis, they found it is 100% calcium oxalate, which I've read is the most common stone type.

After a full residency in urology at Massachusetts General, a fellowship in urinary stone disease at University of California San Francisco, and an American Foundation for Urologic Disease research fellowship in stone metabolism, I am now in private practice in Marin and Sonoma counties in northern California, where I practice general urology and sub-specialize in management of routine and complex stone problems and stone prevention.
First off, I'm not doctor, but I do have extensive personal experience in the kidney-stone arena. As far as I'm aware, kidney-stones and creatinine levels are, for the most part, mutually exclusive. Again, I'm not a doctor, so it's best to ask your Nephrologist when you see him/her. As for your 4mm stone, tell your Urologist that you're nervous about its implications, and that you'd like it removed.
I am awaiting results of blood tests for Prolactin, Liver Function Test, Serum Calcium, Kidney Funtion and Thyroid and maybe others can't remember, PTH blood test has to be done in hospital.....waiting for result of free urinery cortisol test too.... My daughter is a cosmetologist and she told me the topo causes the hair follicles to close. What has fallen out, wont grow back, but the hair loss should stop when you discontinue the drug. The Topo really messed up my cycle too. I think my adrenals took a hard hit from just two weeks on the drug. For me it was not worth it. I was stupid, depressed and started having panic attacks on it. I would loose blocks of time. Huge blocks.

This time about a woman on Topamax for 7 days who seemed to have lost almost all her vision 12 hours after increasing her dose per her doctor's instructions. Some quick thinking sparked me to ask if she could see up close and lo and behold while she was blind as a bat in the distance, she could see the tiniest print about 6 inches in front of her nose. She had developed an acute myopic shift from a choroidal effusion which pushed the lens/iris diaphram forward.
I just started Topamax last week for migranes...I never knew about the hair loss and was not told about it...will def be watching out for that but my doctor did tell me to take vitamins regularly...b/c of the weightloss...so I bet that is what is doing it ... anyone on here lost hair but not weight?....im going to take my vitamins now...
However, in the northern hemisphere it causes most of its illness between September and April. Scientists think that part of the reason that it remains so quiet during the late spring and summer months is the increased exposure to sunlight. There is some good evidence that this is due to increased production of Vitamin D during times of greater exposure. Vitamin D does support healthy immune activity (geez, I sound like a TV commercial).
Those using Topomax need to be especially mindful about drinking plenty of fluids due to increased chances of kidney stones. Stoney will likely develop if fluid intake is not maintained. Looking forward to weight loss benefit as I gained 30# over the past 4 years on anti-depressents. Has anyone used this for bipolar?
The study, conducted by Katherine Flegal of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, looked at specific causes of deaths in relation to body mass index, a ratio of height and weight. A BMI of 25 to less than 30 is considered overweight, while a BMI of 30 or greater is considered obese.
risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture is further increased in those over age 60, in kidney, heart, and lung transplant recipients, and with use of concomitant steroid therapy. Physicians should advise patients, at the first sign of tendon pain, swelling, or inflammation, to stop taking the fluoroquinolone, to avoid exercise and use of the affected area, and to promptly contact their doctor about changing to a non-fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drug.
This tearing is not related to intercourse since my husband and I are unable to do that due to the pain it causes me. There is no real pain otherwise. I am getting some minor bleeding when I poop due to the tears in the anal area. The entire vaginal area is very itchy and if I scratch or rub the skin at all I often give myself one of these tears. It seems as if the skin is very thin. There are no other symptoms that I am aware of. I have had blood work and a biopsy done.
I am an 18 year old female and have had several urinary tract infections and three kidney infections. I also regularly suffer from cystitis. Today i found passing urine painful, and immediately thought it was just another episode of cystisis. However i found that when i wiped a small amount of blood stained my tissue paper pink. The blood is coming from my urethra and is very minimal, but the burning sensation from my urethra is like that of fairly severe cystitis.
Neutering involves removing the source of the hormones that control reproduction and that determine the typical physical and behavioral characteristics that distinguish males and females. In dogs and cats, this is usually done by surgically removing the testicles in males (castration) and the ovaries in females (spaying). In the United States, the uterus is typically removed along with the ovaries in females, and virtually all dogs and cats are spayed or castrated.
Every article I've read says that they really don't know what causes this painful disorder and that there is no known cure. Typical treatment recommendation is (get this) "REASSURANCE"! You better believe they'd be offering more than "reassurance" if lots of men experienced this. = ) Can you tell that I've gotten really PO'd after realizing that what I have is a real disorder and how just how many women are going through the same thing as me?
Join me to learn about the flu vaccine, antivirals, antibiotics, and alternative preventative measures such as humidifiers, saline drops and sprays, herbal supplements, and honey and find out whether these treatments are suitable for children, the elderly and other high-risk groups. This has been an unusual year in that the flu has been picking up in the last few weeks, and will last into early summer. The symptoms of influenza include cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and fever.
I produce kidney-stones and pass them on a regular basis (I have an incurable condition called Cystinuria which causes me to make & pass large kidney-stones). Over the years, I became addicted to the very pain med's that were making my condition somewhat tolerable (Dilaudid & Norco), as passing stones with pain-killers is preferable to without.
I get yellow stools and burning bile that backs up into my system and causes complete HAVOC.... All I can say is good luck to you....in 20 years, I have seen about 15 MD's and ALL of them have different opinions....
Kidney stones Causes Gout is caused by having higher-than-normal levels of uric acid in your body. Your body may make too much uric acid, or have a hard time getting rid of uric acid. If too much uric acid builds up in the fluid around the joints (synovial fluid), uric acid crystals form. These crystals cause the joint to swell up and become inflamed. Not everyone with high uric acid levels in the blood has gout. The exact cause is unknown. Gout may run in families.
I am tempted to try one by the author of this article: .http://****.*** Any was intrigued by his hypothosis that cola does not cause stones, dehydration from drinking soda instead of water causes the stones.
I have to run offline, but for starters I have gallstones, thyroid, and skin cancer issues, recurring UTI's and kidney stones ..........along with this MSK. but all well maintained and 100% healthy! I had micro blood and atypical cells in my urine but thankfully no cancer .. the cells were inflammatory from all the movement inside the medullary of the kidney changing their structure. Key to MSK is finding a good doc and shopping around ..............I went thru 2 to find the one I like a lot!
I think at least if we can find out what the problem is and the causes then we can deal with the pain and whatever possible treatment is prescribed. This is a great site and I will be checking back to see how everybody is doing. I will suggest that they test my daughter for carpal tunnel syndrome or some other nerve disorder. At this point I am not sure if we should see an orthopedic specialist or a neurologist. Good luck to eveyone with your treatments.

I was also diagnosed with high uric acid level 426/428 and I had high cholesterol and they found 6 small stones in my kidney. During the treatment for the stomach bacteria I developed a sore throat that stayed with me for a while because I couldn’t use medication with the antibiotics but when I started the taking just simple home medicines it went away. I never had fever during that time and never had any swollen lymph nodes until 16 weeks after the exposure the one I asked earlier about.
