Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones and surgery

Avatar f tn How unusual is it for the stones to be in this meaty part of my kidney and since they are still in my kidney aren’t they just going to continue to grow larger? Are these stones causing damage to my kidneys? They don’t seem to be causing any blockages based on the ultrasounds that have been done, but I still have had frequent flank pain and blood visible in my urine prior to the surgery. Is there any hope that I will be able to be stone free and prevent more stones?
Avatar n tn Is there any connection in Varicocele surgery and kidney stone? My son at the age of 15 had the varicocele surgery. He is now 18 and has kidney stone. He is very active, lactose intolerant drinks lots of water. Is it normal for one so young to have kidney stones?
Avatar f tn I feel for you dear! I before pregnancy is prone to kidney stones...which puts me s high risk! I know kidney stones are painful enough but to add pregnancy on top of it...its so much worse! I do hope the best for you and a fast recovery!
Avatar f tn How many here have dealt with kidney stones during pregnancy? I am 18 wks 5 days and have a stone that needs to pass. Hurts excessively. I had a stone with my last pregnancy at 34 wks. That time required surgery to remove. If this is not gone by Monday I may be headed that way again.
Avatar f tn I was never told that this could be the outcome of my surgery and that I would need subsequent surgery to get rid of these stones. Thank you for any advise you can lend.
Avatar n tn Bethunev is completely right...drinking a lot of water is your best friend right now. And honestly percocet and dilaudid both carry the same risks (although really the biggest risk is the baby being born dependent and since you're only 14wks that's really not an issue unless you continue to have kidney stones throughout the pregnancy like I did with my firstborn). But truly pain medicine under the care of a doctor can be done quite safely.
Avatar n tn I eat eggs nearly every morning, but I only eat meat every few days, and stone breaker seems to have helped. I had surgery once for my left kidney, and it worked, but the sonar treatment I did for the right kidney did not. However, I'm down to one .6 mm on my right, after losing two there. I say all of this because your husband may want to go on a vegetarian - no chicken or red meat - diet for a few months.Good luck, my friend.
Avatar f tn I was also told i have msk. I had surgery last year on my right side and they pulled out 13 stones and told me they got them all. mind you also at the time i had some in my left kidney but they said they weren't worrying about them cause they were just small. But about 6 months after surgery i found out i had more in my right kidney and the ones in my left are bigger so they did lipo .
Avatar f tn Well I had really bad pain on my left side to the point I was crying so I went to the hospital and there keeping me over night to pass my kidney stones. Anyone else gone through this?
Avatar m tn Has anyone here with kidney stones tried vitamin B6 and magnesium to prevent new stones from forming? I read a study that concluded that taking 50 mg of B6 daily with 300 mg of magnesium oxide (one of the least absorbable forms of magnesium) will prevent future kidney stones. I also read that potassium and B6 does the same. Perhaps the magnesium works because potassium is better absorbed if there is sufficient magnesium.
Avatar f tn Dave, I have suffered for many years with kidney stones myself (35 plus years and at least 35 plus stones). I had surgery for stone removal about 35 years ago and then didn't need surgery again until just the Spring of 2015. Those are the only two times that I have had to have stones removed and have stents. The other many times during all those years, the stones have passed on their own, sometimes multiple stones at once.
Avatar m tn Well the gall bladder hmmm I am not sure. The right kidney 7mm... where is it located? The 5mm in the distal ureter can be removed via cystscope easy procedure.. no biggie. Ok to go with meds you need to analyize the stone to find the composition and possibly meds. You are not in need of open surgery called a "PERC" you are not a canadite for open. Please at all costs try to avoid the laser as this will leave much dust and fragments that will than make even more stones.
Avatar f tn She said i have kidbey stones that i have to let pass and ive never been in such pain.. i was throwing up pisssing my pants and experiencing the kidney stones all at once. she gave me painkillers and im waiting for them to pass.. has anyone else had an experience with being preg with kidney stones??
Avatar m tn Is this due to kidney stones? and will having sex irrate the kidney stones and cause the blood and small blood clots in my urine and pain in my groin.
Avatar m tn m figuring that kidney stones take a while to form and that, if I have kidney stones and possibly an infection, it's likely that I had the kidney stones first and they contributed to the infection, rather that having an infection first that contributed to the kidney stones (sorry if this sounds confusing).
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with kidney stones since i was 14 weeks and am now 33 weeks but and have been in and out of the hospital..my doctor hasnt mentioned going early but i kinda wish i would so i dont have to be in pain anymore.
Avatar f tn Thx for your response I have passed one of the stones in the hospital a few days ago still have another in my right ureter and a 7mm in my right kidney and several small stones 35 wks pg now and they are going to induce me in two weeks due to the kidney stones causing contractions and wanting me to have lithotripsy after her birth. I was told I wouldn't be able to pass the 7mm stone without intervention what are my chances with that they said its in the middle of the kidney.
Avatar n tn I had a stone that blocked my kidney and even after blasting would not come out without being scooped out. This was in my left kidney. Kidneys were both checked out thoroughly for damage and other stones - neither of which was found. Questions are...Since it has been two months and I haven't passed any stones are they likely to just stay put? If the larger one gets stuck after I have my surgery will they be able to go in and get it out without cutting me or screwing up the TVT?
Avatar m tn My kidney doctor said the cyst is common in everyone and normally do not cause discomfort. I had surgery several times and had them aspirated and this released my pain. I wish you all the luck in finding the true result and treatment that will help you.
Avatar f tn I never had gall stones but with my first pregnancy i had kidney stones and had to have kidney surgery when i was 25weeks pregnant. That was horribly painful.
Avatar f tn Went to the er on Tuesday for severe lower stomach pain. Found out I have kidney stones and from the baby growing he's cruising the tube that runs from my kidney to my bladder so urine is going back up in my kidney. They told me I will most likely have to have surgery to place a thing in the tube to keep it open. Has anyone else been through this? Is it invasive? I won't know anything until I see the urologist.
Avatar f tn I was hospitalized at 20 weeks with kidney stones and until I passed them and afterward heating pads were the only thing that helped. Drink a lot of water and stay hydrated, that'll help you feel better faster. The internal swelling should go down within a week or so of getting rid of the stones. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Kidney stone pain is often associated with low back pain and abdominal pain. Kidney stones, especially those in the left kidney, can also cause significant amounts of nausea and even vomiting. As the stone moves further down the ureter toward the bladder, the pain often radiates in the groin and genital areas. In men, the pain may radiate to the scrotum. In women, the pain may radiate to the labia or even the vagina.
Avatar f tn In the Spring of 2014 however I had an experience with misread cat scans and misdiagnosed kidney stones that caused me months of pain and a urine stream that at times was what looked like pure blood. All of that took place at a VA Hospital and I finally had enough! I did what I recommend you do and I CHANGED DOCTORS and got the proper treatment. In my case, I went to a civilian Urologist and had the necessary surgery to remove the THREE stones that were causing me those problems.
7808984 tn?1406680965 I completely understand the need to take them for surgery after something as painful as kidney stones. I also had to take them for a short time after surgery. I experienced some minor withdrawals as well. You know what to do to ease the symptoms. Make sure you are not listening to your head telling you that you need to take anymore. Keep yourself active and your mind occupied. Perhaps it's time to get a meeting in? I wish you continued healing. Stay strong and focused. All the best.
