Avatar m tn Has anyone here with kidney stones tried vitamin B6 and magnesium to prevent new stones from forming? I read a study that concluded that taking 50 mg of B6 daily with 300 mg of magnesium oxide (one of the least absorbable forms of magnesium) will prevent future kidney stones. I also read that potassium and B6 does the same. Perhaps the magnesium works because potassium is better absorbed if there is sufficient magnesium.
Avatar n tn These agents aren't known to cause kidney stones. Most kidney stones in the US are caused by our diet which is rich in meat protein. Calcium supplementation does increase the risk of kidney stones. As far as the blood pressure goes, he should probably have his dose of the lisinopril reduced. Alternatively, there are other agents such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers or Angiotensine receptor blockers that can also be tried. I would probably avoid diuretics at this point.
11610581 tn?1419814808 If they did a urinealysis and found that your urine was clear (your words) then they probably meant that you had no blood in your urine and therefore you did not have a kidney stone. Usually with a kidney stone, although many times you can't see it with your naked eye, there will be blood in your urine. That is probably why they didn't do a Cat Scan, as they felt there wasn't a kidney stone causing your pain and problem.
Avatar m tn Antioxidants reduce the amount of inflammation in your body, which helps the kidneys function properly. The potassium in cauliflower is known to prevent kidney stones. Kidney stones can lead to kidney infections and eventually chronic kidney disease. Eat cauliflower raw with a hummus dip or steam it with a squeeze of lemon. Cauliflower is also delicious smashed with low fat sour cream and fresh parsley.
Avatar f tn How unusual is it for the stones to be in this meaty part of my kidney and since they are still in my kidney aren’t they just going to continue to grow larger? Are these stones causing damage to my kidneys? They don’t seem to be causing any blockages based on the ultrasounds that have been done, but I still have had frequent flank pain and blood visible in my urine prior to the surgery. Is there any hope that I will be able to be stone free and prevent more stones?
Avatar f tn So she suggested a CAT scan of my kidneys which revealed kidney stones (her interpretation). She suggested I see a urologist for the kidney stones, and a nephrologist for my presistant low potassium. I saw the urologist he said I did not have kidney stones except I apparently had "Medullary Sponge Kidney." Which is a congenital condition which your tubules in your kidney's are formed like cysts which is a benign dx that I shouldn't worry about.
Avatar n tn calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone. Treatment modes include Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneoud nephrolithotomy. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Treatment modes include oral medicines, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Please discuss these treatment options with your urologist. Also take less calcium and oxalate rich foods and supplements like dairy products, colas, chocolate, peanuts, leafy vegetables, and tea. I hope it helps.
Avatar f tn I am 39, have Primary Immune Disease, dont make igg, and have had kidney stones 2 times a year since 2001. At moment i have a stone stuck in right ureter and awful right kidney pain. Drs cant figure out why i am getting the stones. I am on potassium citrate 3xd and it does not help. went to ER last nite and they wouldnt do a CT scan because i have had too many over my lifetime(radiation). urine showed high concentration of calcium oxalate so stone is verified.
Avatar f tn In hospital for a month but came out of it. I was told and I have seen 10 kidney stones in right kidney and 12 in left kidney. Docs say they are calcified or as they put it (christy your kidneys are calcifying and lithotripsy won't work at this stage). I am 46 and have had these stones for 6 years. I get infections, smells, can't have xex cause of the odor, and cramps that make me feel I am still on my mensural.
168348 tn?1379357075 magnesium for the prevention of calcium oxalate kidney stones. I cannot take Urocit K because of terrible GI side effects, so my Urologist suggested this to help disuade them from forming. My calcium levels are normal. I have a condition called MSK (Medullary Sponge Kidney) that predisposes me to producing calcium oxalate or calcium oxalate/phosphorous stones. I avoid all oxalate containing foods and don't take any extra calcium supplements or antacids containing calcium Thanks.
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. My kidney stone problem is a problem with oxalate. I think I will stop the turmeric for now. I am disappointed, as I thought this would help the arthritis. I certainly don't want kidney stone problems again. The calcium supplement I take is calcium citrate (not carbonate). Since I already take a prescription potassium citrate (Urocit-K), I guess the turmeric would be keeping that from doing its job of breaking down the oxalate.
Avatar n tn tiny stones) in my kidneys and have been drinking lots of water and using kidney cleanse supplements. They are helping. I drank lots of caffeine and little water for many years... How are you doing? --J.
2110593 tn?1334180717 That's where I get pain in my kidney (right side below my ribs) I've had kidney stones a couple times. If you get a stone once your more likely to have repeat problems with stones. Maybe that is what you had and the last one past and the pain stopped. I was just posting in the addiction forum asking if it was possible to get that side pain from too much cough medicine. I seem to verbenas pain now about an hour after I take cough medicine.
Avatar m tn Small kidney stones may naturally be expelled through the urine while bigger stones may cause obstruction and infection. Take the medicine as prescribed and do keep us posted with your follow-up. Best regards.
Avatar n tn Within the last two years she has been diagnosed with kidney stones, anemia, pancreatitis, hypokalemia, mixed connective tissue disease, asthma, raynauds disease, mono, bronchitis, pleurisy, pericarditis, chostochondritis, uti's, kidney infections...She has had a fever for weeks...The drs say her potassium is dangerously low and they've given her multiple IV's with potassium, but it hasn't helped make any improvements.
168348 tn?1379357075 l calcium on an ongoing basis because I have history of producing documented calcium oxalate kidney stones! So if the levels are off it will be a fine-line balance of kidney stones and right # for muscles.

I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone. Treatment modes include Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneoud nephrolithotomy but it depends on the size of the stone.
Avatar f tn In reading many articles, I have also found that various and numerous physicians state that neither will do any good with regard to kidney stones. I guess if it works for you then it is good and if it doesn't work, it's definitely not that good. As I said, for me neither one has any positive affects but neither one can hurt you either so I can't see where it would hurt anyone to try one or both of those, in moderation of course.
Avatar m tn I got severe stomach pain on jan 24 and next day the scanning result is that i got 2 small calculi in right kidney and hydronephrosis of left kidney with uretric caliculas. i was prescribed kmac syrup(potassium citrate & magnesium citrate oral solution), brakke (ofloxacin and ornidazole) tablets , hifenac spas(aceclofenac and drotaverine hydrochloride tablets) taking which i suffered constipation severely then i guessed may be the side effects of above drugs. i took them day after day.
Avatar f tn I am a 34yr old woman, and upto a couple of years ago, have been in pretty good health. I've had a few problems, such as pelvic inflammatory disease and irritable bowel etc., but nothing compared to what is happening to me now! In February 2011 I started getting pain and generally feeling rough. I managed to cope with it until May, and then I was hospitalised with severe pain in my left kidney and down into my groin.
Avatar m tn I recently came across something that said turmeric can cause calcium oxalate (sp?) kidney stones. I am prone to forming stones and have had numerous surgical procedures about 8-10 years ago to get rid of them. Since then I have been taking a potassium citrate prescription med. to keep them from forming and I have been fine. Both of these docs who said it would be OK did not treat me when I was going through these procedures but it is noted on my charts.
757137 tn?1347196453 Does any know of supplements that could prevent or cure kidney stones? Many thanks for any information you can give.

Avatar m tn A few points in response to above to myself----kidney stones take a few months to form. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have not had the elevated calcium that long--so now I think maybe it's not the calcium that caused my issue. I also mentioned above that I dropped 90 pounds in just a few months. I have read that rapid weight loss leads to acidic urine, which can lead to stone formation. That was news to me.
