Avatar f tn if you take sodas like coke zero ( zero carbs and calories!) it wouldn't hurt your weight loss that much. But people say drinking soda contributes to cancer, kidney stones, obesity...yikes.
Avatar m tn The dietitians recommendation, based on a study published in the Journal of American Nutrition and Diet, recommends a high calcium and oxalate diet on the theory that such a diet will have the calcium and oxalate combine in the digestive track before they get to the kidney. An additional concern is that the urologist recommended diet cuts out many food groups that I have come to believe are good for you: whole wheat bread and pasta, beans, leafy green vegetables, nuts, green tea, chocolate.
Avatar n tn I had my first kidney stone send me to the ER in April (5mm). I don't know if it actually passed because there was no evidence, but the pain did stop after 2 weeks. Through testing in June, I know that I have 5 small stones in my left kidney and the kidney has hydroneph... can't remember the word at the moment, but it means enlarged/swollen. My uric acid (1480) and oxaclic acid levels were high. I am now on allopurinol (sp? the bottle is not with me).
Avatar n tn I have had kidney stones since 2001. Currently (as of May 1) I have had a 15 mm and a 10 mm (as well as several of their babies) in my kidney. I have been scheduled for a systoscopy but when I went for my pre-op, I had extremely (dangerous) high blood pressure. I have never had this high blood pressure in my life (even when I went to the emergency room for kidney stone attacks).
Avatar m tn I heard that both juices were supposed to be good, but that orange juice was actually the better of the two. But lemonaid was what the dr. recommended. After a year on the kidney stone anti-diet, I had more kidney stones. Told the dr. I had not had any tea, chocolate, collard greens, salad, almonds, beets, etc, etc, drank a gallon of water a day along with the lemonaid. What else could I do, doc.? He said, "We really don't know what causes kidney stones to form.
Avatar n tn I've had kidney stones for years and was always told it was caused by too much Uric Acid in the body. Who knows?
Avatar n tn This one involves pus in the kidney and surrounding sack. His right kidney, where all of the stones have been, is down to less than 25% output and may have to be removed. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this and what the outcome might be?
Avatar n tn These agents aren't known to cause kidney stones. Most kidney stones in the US are caused by our diet which is rich in meat protein. Calcium supplementation does increase the risk of kidney stones. As far as the blood pressure goes, he should probably have his dose of the lisinopril reduced. Alternatively, there are other agents such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers or Angiotensine receptor blockers that can also be tried. I would probably avoid diuretics at this point.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones almost 3 years ago but I did not get them removed as my Dr told me they could not kill me or cause any life threatening diseases, but recentley I have noticed a little bit of stomach discomfort, I would like to say pain but it doesnt hurt , it kind of feels like something is there like gas, and my stomach gurgles a little bit and once in a while I will feel a little bit of a slight pinching pain in different spots over my belly , it feels like its through the b

82861 tn?1333453911 He appears to be about 2 years old, and we were told that dals have a tendency to develop bladder stones. I understand they need a chicken or lamb-based diet (no beef) and wonder what other dietary measures we need to take. Are there any supplements we should give him to help prevent stone formation? Maggie, our other pup, is a dal x lab mix, so is it correct to assume she likely has the same tendency and should be treated the same as Doc?
Avatar n tn Do check your diet. One high in calcium (cheese, milk, yoghurt) and fats can lead to kidney stones. Also you must drink water to keep the kidneys hydrated and efficient. My male friend gets them often and I have watched him go through them and the advice above is what the doctor's tell him every time.
Avatar f tn Hi there, In medullary sponge kidney disease there is fluid retention in the ducts of your kidneys. Diet and exercise can lessen the severity of kidney stones which may form. Organic diet may be helpful. A diet low in high protein foods like meat, low in high oxalate foods like spinach, rhubarb, peanuts, and low in sodium may help. A diet high in fiber like fruits, vegetables can be very helpful. Vitamin A is helpful in preventing the formation of stones.
Avatar f tn I am at my wits end and have no idea what else to do. I had my first kidney stones when i was 19. They first put a stent inside to help with the passing but later found out that they weren't going anywheres caue they were sitting in a pocket in my kidneys. they did Lipo and they i was sent on my way. Well for the past 12 years i had more stones returned and nothing really done expect given meds to help the pain.(which most times didn't help).
Avatar f tn It depends on what type of kidney stones you have... if you have stones that are a calcium based mixture (calcuim-oxalate for instance) then you should never take a calcium supplement. You would want to increase calcium in your diet through dairy products, etc. but calcium supplements are a definite no-no as they don't break down in your system the way the calcium in food does. If you have any other type of stone such as uric or struvite, etc.
Avatar f tn How unusual is it for the stones to be in this meaty part of my kidney and since they are still in my kidney aren’t they just going to continue to grow larger? Are these stones causing damage to my kidneys? They don’t seem to be causing any blockages based on the ultrasounds that have been done, but I still have had frequent flank pain and blood visible in my urine prior to the surgery. Is there any hope that I will be able to be stone free and prevent more stones?
Avatar n tn I have had a few kidney stones over the last few years and have been placed on a low oxalate diet. There's a lot of foods to try to remember to avoid and I wondered if people had some good tricks.
Avatar f tn That's too bad. Can you be more specific for what you have tried so far? Are you working with a doctor? This article has ways to combat kidney stones. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/kidney-stones/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20355759 A 9mm kidney stone is big and those often don't pass on their own. This article gives some ways to remove it from having it surgically removed to using sound waves to break it up to using a scope to remove it, etc.
Avatar f tn I'm 38 and have been diagnosed with oxilate stones/sponge kidney. I was told years ago that some birth control options could actually make it worse. I have managed to adjust my diet but I desperately need to figure out a birth control that will not make it worse. I've been told the same about antibiotics. Can you recommend a birth control and antibiotic that is ok to take? I don't smoke, don't plan on anymore children and have no allergies to medications.
Avatar n tn You need to watch if the dog is in pain, having problems urinating, etc. I take it these are bladder stones? They are more common then kidney stones. It is considered a major surgery to remove them and they may become chronic. You definitely have to watch the diet. Ask your Vet for a recommendation on the food. There are dog food companies that do make special diets for animals with stones!
Avatar f tn I never had gall stones but with my first pregnancy i had kidney stones and had to have kidney surgery when i was 25weeks pregnant. That was horribly painful.
895634 tn?1283989210 Update: Week 27 of 48. UND, sides well-comtroled. Previously seen questionable indeterminate liver lesion on MRI now determined to be NOT HCC due to stability over time and imaging features. Had surprise wake-up callyesterday 5 am...Left renal colic. Anybody aware of an association between treatment and kidney stones? I've had renal colic before, but this is by far the most painful bout. Hepatologist gave green light for Vicodin or Percocet, which are helping.
Avatar m tn I have been told by the first doc I saw weeks ago it wont be kidney stones as I would feel them all the time but this pain is as niggling and awful as gall stones which I had in my twenties. I agree though that it eases after being up an hour or so but each day goes by and I can feel it more and more in the day. I did some harsh movements twisting whilst swimming a couple of months ago and wonder if this could have torn anything.
Avatar m tn Why not try some grape juice, herbal tea, or something you enjoy and gradually cut down to one diet coke a day? Purified water is also good for you and is easier on the system if you drink it at room temperature.
Avatar m tn kidney stones can be very recurring and can start very young, although ive never heard of someone getting them in their early teens.. usually early 20s, but that doesnt mean it doesnt happen earlier. it sounds like you will have to sit in some pain until you get insurance again. you can try to seek out clinics, but theyre not very good at helping. get your insurance back and go to a dr, because if you have them so often, you might have something else going on.
