Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones and back pain

kidney-stones

recently i have been getting pains in my left lower back and it travels to my groin this time on the right side and feels now like a dull ache in my right testicle. no fever or nausea with these conditions but a "warm" sensation when urinating, stream is weak and color is mildy yellow. Could this be a kidney stone stuck in my bladder or is there another cause.
I went to the ER for the first time back in January because I had serious back lower left back pain and was throwing up and had was sweating like I was running a fever. I had no idea what was wrong with me I thought I was dying the pain was so bad. When I was taken to the ER I found out it was a 3 millimeter kidney stone in my left kidney, and to make it even better the the CT scan also showed I had 3 more in my right kidney that had not broken off yet.
So I had really really bad back pain last night in my left kidney. Rhe pain was worse then labor I swear. Have any of you ladies had kidney stones during this pregnancy? Im due nov 28th and im already dealing with all the pain that comes along with pregnancy and I cant go through that again.
Had horrible lower back pain and threw up a couple times. This was in the middle of the night. I just buckled over, went to bed and went back to sleep. Then work. My back still hurt a little, but now my left side hurt a lot. I went to the Doctor. Said I had blood in urine and that I had a kidney stone & should drink tons of water. It has been a week. Off & on back pain with same left side pain. Now I'm having burning in abdoman and feels like I keep having to urinate.
A few days ago, I started experiencing over-all mild, lower back pain. I have back problems, so I just got out the heating pad and didn't pay much attention. But the pain didn't go away and it's been getting worse. It had become concentrated in my lower back to the right side of my spinal cord, right over my hip. Sometimes it does hurt in the right side of my abdomen and in the middle of my back, too. I'm 99% sure it's my kidney.
urine flow can be comprimised if stone blocks ureter and kidney will swell causing back pain towards side. if left untreated can cause infection. go see a urologist or nephrologist as soon as you can or strain urine at home everytime you pee till pain is completely gone. some stones take forever to pass and others are quick. its good to know what kind of stone you have to try to prevent another. good luck.
All day morning sickness on top on being in constant pain and needing pain meds just wasn't working. I had a 6mm stone removed and was so relieved just to get another in the opposite kidney 3 weeks later. Thank God that one passed on it's own after 2 weeks of constant pain. The only thing that got me through was a high pain tolerence,a heating pad, warm baths, and pain meds.
It is recommended that regular follow-up with your doctor to ensure that kidney stones are controlled and do not return. Additional tests such as x-rays, blood tests, or urine analysis may be done. Take care and best regards.
Yesterday I went into the ER, l was having horrible pain on my right side right under my rib. They did a cat scan and xray and told me that I have tw kidney stones one in each kidney. I still have no pain on my right side and am wondering if I ever will or if it will just disappear? Secondly the pain on my left side got worse over night, it has moved down a little and wrapped around to my back. The pain is bearable and then out of nowhere unbearable and worse in my back.

Hi, I posted a few days ago here and no one has responded, see my post below, starts out GROSS HEMATURA AND RIGHT FLANK AND BACK PAIN. I have right flank and back pain and blood in urine, every few weeks I will have a burning in my urine and bloos be there. Like you I tend to hurt when I am active. Had ultrasound and no mass or tumors were found but they say i have to have other testing for stones; i hurt so badly; just wondered h\where your stones are located and how they found them? how many?
Now recently it hurts all over in my abdomin and into my back. If the stones have moved is this something that is part of the process? The doctors arent in until Tues. and I am just praying that this holds off until then. I was suppose to have them broke up but she thought I could wait. What does it sound like?
Other differentials for your flank and abdominal pain may be the kidney stones and an underlying musculoskeletal pain. Keep a positive attitude.Openly discuss your concerns with your physician and do keep us posted.
Its been 24 hours now and the pain is still there and along with that pain I now have pain on my right side towards the middle of my side.....

After that no symptoms or issues at all. About 6 months back, i developed similar symptoms and had acute back pain. Was advised some pain killers and after about 1 week of excessive fluid intake, i passed out another stone. Does this indicate formation of more such stones? What is the probablity of developing kidney related chronic issues? Any preventive steps that can be taken?

I have had high blood pressurefor a few years now and recently I had lithroscopy(kidney stones) surgery and since then my blood pressure has been normal and they taken me off my hydrochlorizide(water pill), do you have an explanation of why this happened or how.
i was told i have calcium in my urine and have a possibility of them and my sides and back have been hurting.
chronic pain isn't easy to live with and kidney problems are rough - back in 2004 I woke up with the worst pain I've ever felt in my left flank; had testing but nothing showed up so I sympathize with the pain try pain mgt if you haven't I was pleasantly surprised at the treatments their clinic could do that my primary didn't and he mentioned some things about the amount of tylenol my pcp gave me that could cause damage and she didn't even broach the subject 2nd opinion would be great also and
as long as you have a normal kidney on the other side. Certainly the pain your having could be from ureteral stones, and ureteroscopy is preferred in lower ureteral stones in child-bearing age women because lithotripsy may bruise the ovaries if used for lower ureteral stones. Infection is unlikely as infection and an obstructing stone usually leads to a high fever and is an emergency.
I'm not a doctor, but do have too much experience with kidney stones. For me, I'd get pings and pangs in my kidney as well as microhematuria (blood you cannot see by eye) in my urine when I have stones. I've also had the flank pain you describe .. for me it's been in the lower back. I hope with lots of water your stones move out for you uneveventfully. Please keep in touch. From what I've read stones <5.0mm usually move out on their own with a high % of non-complications, etc.
She said i have kidbey stones that i have to let pass and ive never been in such pain.. i was throwing up pisssing my pants and experiencing the kidney stones all at once. she gave me painkillers and im waiting for them to pass.. has anyone else had an experience with being preg with kidney stones??
I passed four and since around 24 weeks have one blocking urine flow from my kidneys to my bladder causing swelling and extreme pain. I have been on and off of pain killer s since the pain cause s pre mature labor and that is more risky. The only advice I have is a heating pad, drink tons of water and orange juice and lemonade also lemon in your water. I know how you feel! And if it gets bad enough they can give you stronger than tylonel. Vicaden and percacet are perfectly fine.
Hey I was wondering Im 10 wks Pregnant and I have lower back pain REALLY BAD it feels as if i was in labor being i know how it feels i have 3 kids already What happends is all of a sudden i will have sharp stabbing pain and it will last about a min and if i have to pee it is very little or i can't. The doctor said that is what it sounds like to her but i dont have the money to have all these other test done on top of going to my obgyn.
Finally after she was in excruciating pain a x-ray was done and they found 2 kidney stones in right kidney. They had me give her pain meds for 2 days and the dr's figured they passed. Since then had a couple days that she was in a little pain. Then today started having really bad pain again, and more bleeding in urine. We're hoping they pass this time, and we'll be done with this. We don't have a family history of these, and follow up with the dr. next week.
Since having kidney stones currently and knowing what they feel like not being pregnant, I can safely say that I have had stones at least 3 other times between the ages of 17 and 27 (pain at that time was diagnosed as most likely a cyst -- when pain was severe - shortly thereafter went away - they said cyst burst - i am confident that the pain was kidney stones). With that being said, I'm tired of getting the kidney stones (as well as the tiredness, soreness and moodiness).
So sorry to hear this, gosh lately i have heard of more and more hear having kidney stones?? I wonder if this has anything to do with us taking too many pain pills? I don't know anything about methadone, but i wish u luck!!!
I'm anxious to hear about your ESWL (ess-wall), so be sure and post back and let us know how it went. You think you may have a Struvite kidney-stone, why? Just curious how you arrived at that conclusion. Was it something your doctor said, that led you to that hypothesis? When you begin passing the fragments of the stone they're 'blasting', be sure and save some of them (so your doctor can turn them over to the Pathology lab and they can identify what the stone make-up is).
