If you cannot void at all, your urologist may have you self cath for a period of time. If you could provide more information, perhaps our suggestions would not have to be so general. Good luck.

10948614 tn?1414173719 I have no symptoms except for extreme fatigue and water retention and some slight swelling on my outer ankle bone. I found out I am gluten intolerant so that means damage and inflammation for the last 45 years but I am gluten-free and almost grain free now. I drink a lot and pee a lot so it is almost like my body is somehow intolerant to water or leaking it through my intestines? Diuretics have never worked and I have no signs of kidney disease.
Avatar n tn My only suggestion is to drink more water. Too much soda or not enough water can lead to darker urine. Check to see if you're dehydrated.
1711570 tn?1309811718 i was diagnosed with urine infection a few days after surgery to remove a large ovarian cyst. the only sympton i had was severe stomach cramps which i thought was associated to the the surgery but after a urine test at the a&e, they found that it was a urnine infection. i was given antibiotics, which didn't take into effect until the 3rd/4rth day. i've now finished the prescribed course, however, i've found that my urine is still very yellow despite me drinking more than 1.
Avatar f tn Why do those that are hypo gain water weight? whats behind the water retention? and even when one is optimal, will we still have water retention?
Avatar m tn Oral contraceptives and hormone replacement drugs with estrogen cause water retention and swelling. Steroids also cause water retention, leading to the puffiness associated with their use. Other drugs that cause water retention include antidepressants and drugs used to treat high blood pressure. Excessive Sodium Intake Salt holds water and increases the volume of the blood, leading to water retention in the hands and feet. MayoClinic.
541196 tn?1293552936 Hi there, I am hoping someone can help me with tying some symptoms and tests together so I can talk to my dr. who is already overwhelmed by me. I have been having reoccuring kidney/flank pain that last a week or more. Dr. is never sure if it's a kidney infection or kidney stone or something else. Urine test shows presence of blood AND protien. Urine is cloudy off and on when pain is present and often when pain is not present as well. I am 31 years old. Female.
Avatar n tn Hi, wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I have had a bladder/kidney infection for about 4 weeks now. I am on third lot of antibiotics. First was suprax, which gave some relief for a few days, then levoxacin, now on ciproxin. I had a cytoscopy that revealed the bladder infection. I have very bad pain in sides, back, and abdomen and am on pain medication for this. I'm worried that this third course of will not work.
Avatar f tn After several hours and lots of water (she normally drinks coffee all day long along with water). As far as I know she is taking no meds for High BP, or water retention, etc... she is taking Sulfa due to an upper respiratory infection x 10 days, today being the last day. She also states that this has happened once before, but cleared up on its own.

Avatar n tn Edema may result from salt and water retention or blockage of the flow of lymphatic fluid (see Lymphatic Disorders: Lymphedema). In both cases, men have no pain. Salt and water retention most commonly occurs because of heart failure, kidney failure, or chronic liver disease. Lymphedema results from blockage of lymph fluid most often because of compression of the abdominal or pelvic lymph vessels (for example, by a tumor or infection by certain kinds of parasites).
Avatar n tn Hello, The causes of urinary blockage are urinary obstruction like in prostate enlargement, scar tissue, injury (as in a car wreck or bad fall), blood clots, infection, tumors in the pelvic region, and stones; nerve problem, infection and surgery. A weak bladder muscle, chronic obstruction, and nerve diseases or injury all can contribute to chronic urinary retention. Please discuss these possibilities with your urologist and check which ones have been ruled out in your case.
529224 tn?1400648219 The answer is that the problem is potentially serious, and should be evaluated by a physician. Fluid retention, kidney failure and heart faiilure are potential etiologies, although uncommon at age 30. From your observations, it is difficult to determine if the problem is edema (caused by fluid retention) or simple swelling of the feet, secondary to exercise.
Avatar n tn Apart from UTI and interstitial cystitis, burning micturition can be caused by acute urinary retention, bladder stones, cystocele, prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, kidney causes like infections, glomerulonephritis, calculi and STD’s and urethritis. I suggest you to get evaluated or all these causes. Till then drink plenty of water and cranberry juice. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn Severe anemia too causes water retention and weight gain. In women polycystic disease of the ovary too should be ruled out as it causes insulin resistance and fatigue. If you pass urine a lot and feeling very tired, diabetes and subclinical urinary tract infection should be ruled out. Other possibilities are hypothyroidism, anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, poor sleep patterns, inadequate sleep, low Vit b12, low iron, low calcium, sodium and potassium.

Avatar f tn Is it normal to retain water while on Synthroid? I never experienced water retention before I began my Synthroid. Now that I am on Synthroid, I am retaining water pretty badly. I often wake up with swollen fingers and I tend to weigh 5 or 6 pounds more in the morning than I do in the evening. This is very out of character for me. Anything I can do to help alleviate this issue?
