Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
Avatar f tn ve heard a couple of doctors (not diabetes specialists) say that diabetics should never take ibuprofen because of potential damage to the kidneys, which, coupled with the potential damage from the diabetes itself, could significantly increase the possibility of kidney failure. I would be very interested to hear what diabetes specialists have to say on this because prior to this many doctors (fully aware of the type 1 diabetes) recommended daily ibuprofen for various problems such as back pain.
1654058 tn?1407159066 With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).
Avatar n tn Your creatinine is still high because you likely have chronic kidney disease from the hypertension. The Telmisartan-HCTZ that was given will not make your creatinine low, it is to treat your hypertension and prevent further damage to your kidneys. It is also possible you have some protein in your urine which the Telmisartan helps to reduce. Also, Telmisartan can cause a slight increase in your creatinine but it is usually not a very significant increase.
Avatar m tn I would not recommend taking all those medications, unless prescribed to you by your doctor. As well as possibly getting kidney and liver problems from too much medications, Ibuprofen can also cause internal bleeding and should be taken with or after food. Make an urgent appointment to see your doctor.
Business man2 I try to have my patients take very little daily ibuprofen/naproxen as they can lead to kidney disease (based on total lifetime dose), high blood pressure (meloxicam) and stomach ulcers. Also, the anti-platelet effect of aspirin (which is how it prevents heart attacks) is reduced when taken with daily ibuprofen/naproxen. I hope this helps!
5792451 tn?1390934690 I started seeing a nephrologist last year because of a cyst and scarring on my right kidney. All of my labs were perfect during my appointment last august, which is good considering I'm only 26 years old. My eGFR was 123 so my doctor told me that I had great function and he only needed to see me once a year to keep an eye on things.
689265 tn?1251130087 just had my 2 year old at the drs for a check following a fever and told him I'd used calprofen ( children's ibuprofen ) initially when trying to bring his temperature down. He hit the roof!!! He said ibuprofen is proven to cause kidney damage and should NOT be made for children at all, he's on quite a mission to ban it. Just thought i'd let you guys know. fortunately, i'd only given my lad 2.

535822 tn?1443976780 We do have an expert in the Family Medicine Forum. Dr. Keyes has been answering questions in there and it looks she's current on her questions. She answered questions 3 questions on 3/12, 2 questions on 3/13, 2 on 3/15, 2 on 3/18 and one 45 minutes ago. Not sure what the issue is, but the forum's questions are being answered. Avatar m tn According to research institutes, Ibuprofen overdose damages your internal organs like liver. While in some cases it has been reported that it has result in a permanent liver damage, in other cases where the victim was taking the dose for a long and continued period it has resulted in organ failure one by one.
Avatar n tn t get better, getting a prescription will be a lot cheaper than a hospital stay for kidney damage. Be careful. Untreated kidney infections can make you really ill (like ICU ill).
963889 tn?1359677334 My girlfriend had an open biopsy on her kidneys and it showed ibuprofen caused the damage. Her doctor in Florida did some research on Ibuprofen and then did a report for the AMA. Ibruprofen (advil and etc) is the number one cause of kidney failure of over the counter products in the Nation.
Avatar f tn Ibuprofen, in high amounts for years, will cause ulcers and kidney failure. Three years of that much ibuprofen is enough to cause fatal kidney failure in some sensitive people. I recommend learning about the treatment of opiate dependence in general; there are several options these days. But for all of them, success depends upon the motivation of the addict-- not the addict's family members, who are usually motivated long before the addict is.
Avatar f tn t take advil or any other NSAID like ibuprofen or Aleve as they cause kidney damage over the long term. Tylenol is safest. Your stool sounds normal. If it is black or red then there is an issue. Any variation of brown is normal. I would go to the GP and express your concerns. Undiagnosed pain is always a bit nerve wracking but not at all unusual. If you haven't I would try massage. I go for Chinese Massage. It is a bit intense but really helps.
Avatar f tn is it safe to take ibuprofen when pregnant? Just once? Ran out of tylenol.
Avatar n tn I was not aware of kidney pain being related to alcohol, is this common? Is it possible for 2 or 3 heavy drinking events to cause long term damage to kidneys or would it have to be an accumulation of heavy drinking over time? What are the gold standard tests/exams to check for kidney function? How are kidney donors tested to confirm they have healthy kidneys for transplants? What are some tips to promote healthy kidney function?
1386405 tn?1291587800 The biggest effect of Ibuprofen is in the last trimester. It affects the kidney/urine output of the fetus, which results in lower amniotic fluid levels. It can also thin your blood, which can increase the risk of heavy bleeding during delivery and after. Your OB will tell you the same thing. Everything will be ok, and now you know, and you won't take it again. Good luck with the pregnancy!
Avatar m tn They cause salt and water retention. They can cause kidney damage. NSAIDs will make your symptoms of liver disease worse.
Avatar f tn My question is, could this episode of self harm have affected my liver or kidneys? I ask because I seem to get some mild paid from my Right kidney shortly after I have a drink. I have recently had some blood tests too, and my GP said my liver blood tests were high. I'm currently awaiting the results from a liver scan, and I'm having further blood tests next week too. My GP is not aware of the self harm.
Avatar f tn Since NSAIDs may cause salt and water retention people with fluid retention problems such as ascites or leg swelling may suffer worsening of these conditions. People with decompensated cirrhosis are at increased risk kidney damage stemming from the use of NSAIDs. Since this may lead to hepatorenal syndrome, people with advanced liver disease are advised to totally avoid all NSAIDs.
Avatar f tn Ever since i came back home my body has been acting funny and i am having extreme pain (it feels like my right kidney but it seems a little low to be my kidney) and i was wondering if there could have been some internal damage that would not have shown up right after the overdose but a little bit after? Should I be concerned or is this just my body trying to fix it's self?
Avatar f tn I have an extra few hundred from my tax return, and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what works for pain relief from Lyme arthritis. I've only done ibuprofen and have pain and stiffness in my ankles, knees, elbows, wrists and fingers. Chiropractic? Natural supplements? Massage? Acupuncture? If any of you have found relief, I'd be grateful for your suggestions.
