Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.
Tbd Eat low carb / ketogenic diet. Avoid or strictly sugars, grains, starchy vegetables, and sweet fruits. Use a blood glucose meter to determine the effect of your diet on your blood sugar. This will help you fine tune what foods do and don't affect your blood sugars, and to what degree.

Tbd For me, considering that diabetes is an inability of the body to properly process glucose I choose low carb / ketogenic diet. This diet is fairly easy to follow. No grains, no sugars, no starchy vegetables. There are some people for whom the low fat / high carb works. You would need to find out which suits you best and which one you can manage sustainably.

I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?

Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Avatar n tn I personally eat a Ketogenic diet of 20g or less net carbs a day. Most of my diet comes from meat, cheese and non-starchy vegetables. The high levels of fat in my diet help keep me satiated and promotes weight loss. I also tend to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible. I eat gluten free and grain free.

LGIT is different than the low glycemic diet you hear about for wt loss. In general Low Glycemic foods help to keep blood sugar even and helps to prevent those highs and lows. Avatar f tn What I found as the most effective way to do this is via a ketogenic diet. There is a great book called the Art and Science of Nutritional Ketosis, by Dr Phinney and Dr Volek. There are a lot of free youtube videos by both doctors Phinney and Volek who describe how to lose fat, while protecting and building physical and athletic strength. Really good stuff. So, through proper nutrition, you can lose the fat and maintain/build muscle. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Avatar n tn To see it with your own eyes, get a BG meter, follow the veggie and cereals diet for 3 days and check your BG levels often. Then switch to strict low carb diet and see the new numbers. Little excercise just to spend some glucose wouldn't hurt.
Avatar n tn Hi Lizzy, you are still diabetic... completely normal blood glucose is a hba1c of 5.0 or less. Prediabetic is usually considered as 5.7 - 6.5, and diabetic as 6.5. But being diabetic is sometimes likened to being pregnant... whether 6 weeks or 9 months you are still pregnant. So slightly high or very high, is still diabetic. To give you some perspective. Normal blood sugars will typically be < 100 all the time. Hba1c of 6.9 gives you average BG of about 160. Hab1c of 6.
