Avatar m tn My mother suffered a stroke about a year ago and was put on Keppra in the hospital to help reduce her possibility of seizures. We were told that this is commonly done. She is still on Keppra per Neurologists orders to help 'protect' the brain while it is healing. Problem: side effects of Keppra seem to contradict what our goals for mom are....memory loss, mood changes, mental changes and vision changes among others.
564491 tn?1320360393 My 13 year old daughter takes 750 mg of Keppra twice a day for Seizures. She has some irritability but other than that she does fine on the meds. It has been a lifesaver for our family.
1596950 tn?1297352500 aggresion is a side effect of keppra, doctors sometime call it the "keppra rage". i didn't have the aggression, but i had the learning problems. bad memory and lack of concentration was the worst of it. it was so bad because i'm at varsity and you're basically just a number so they don't really care.
Avatar f tn Could the heart rate issue be part of epilepsy, or a symptom of the angioma, or a side effect of the keppra? I have always had low blood pressure, and was glad because I thought it would lower the risk of an angioma bleed. (Not as low as it was getting after I started taking the keppra.) Not only that, but supposedly blood thinners like aspirin supposedly increase the risk of a bleed. The high salt diet has helped a bit.
Avatar n tn t figure out why and either can any doctors. They prescribes me Keppra 500mg 4 times a day but does not help. Someone has mentioned that it could be caused by stress or severe anxiety. I want to know if that could be the cause. I have them in my sleep sometime so I am not sure. Please help me. I am so scared to be alone. I don't want this to kill me.
Avatar n tn Then took her Keppra down to 1/day for 2 weeks. Then she went one day with no Keppra and the next day she had a seizure. This seizure was longer, but her disorientation was shorter. Vet then said to go back to giving her Keppra for 30 days and we will re-evaluate. So for the next 30 days she was taking Keppra 1/day and Di Tan Tang 2/day. After the 30 days, I stopped the Keppra and just continued the Di Tan Tang 2/day. This lasted for 114 days.
Avatar f tn needless to say, he was fired and I went elsewhere. I went to a comprehensive epilepsy center and they found a medication that works really well for me and I have minimal side-effects. I've been on Topamax for 7 years and it's more effective than any other medication or combination or medications I've been on. I know it's really a drag and it truly *****. I take a lot of medication...I have epilepsy, schizophrenia/depression and allergies/asthma.
Avatar f tn We have been eliminating one thing at a time. Right Now I am on Keppra 1000mgs a day for the mild seizures seems to help with essintial tremors and some of the myoclonic jerks. Lunesta and Ambian to sleep, margesic for headaches, and Paxil for anxiety. I am tired and need help If You have any suggestions on anything it would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn The use of medications to treat siezures is controversial - all have side effects. The evidence-based answers you seek can be found on the U.S. government website "Pubmed". Information on treatment protocols with these medications are available on that site.
Avatar m tn after an organ transplant) whose bodies might take up to 3 or 6 months to make a detectable amount of antibodies. The CDC will recommend a 3 month window period for a number of reasons, one being that it will ensure that the test is accurate for everyone, including that small group of people who need to wait longer than 6 weeks. The only STDs that are transmitted through blood-to-blood contact are HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.
Avatar f tn He needs to go see a Neurologist and have a MRI and an EEG to determine what the fits are and if he is having seizures they can determine what area of his brain the seizures are coming from and make a treatment plan for him. There are a lot if medications that can control epilepsy or atleast reduce the amount of seizures. I have a vascular malformation in my right temporal that casues my epilepsy and I have been undergoing treatment for a long time.
Avatar f tn Hi. Have you heard of Alcohol withdrawal seizures ? When you don't get alcohol for even a day, the body starts showing withdrawal symptoms like tremors. Some people are more prone to seizures than others, for unknown reasons. I think your husband has Alcohol withdrawal seizures. The ultimate aim of the treatment will be to take him off alcohol, slowly and steadily. The doctors probably want to note seizure activity in his brain when he is not drinking.
Avatar n tn Hi I also have complex partial seizures which are being controlled w/anti seizure meds. Along w/1000 ml of Keppra I am taking 400 ml of Lamictal. I have a meningioma in the left petrous apex, meckle's cave and clivas... I had gamma knife radiation in 2002 and the tumor went from 2.6 x 2.2 x1.0 cm to 2.0 x 2.0 x .9 presently. The only symptoms I had at the time of diagnosis was left sided facial tingling. I now have epilepsy, trigeminal pain and severe headaches...
Avatar f tn No matter how small or large the amount. At first I thought this a side effect of the anticonvulsant I take (Keppra) -- the instructions say to avoid alcohol because very serious interactions can occur, although they never specify what those interactions are. A couple medical professionals I talked to about it said that it's because Keppra increases the level of enzymes present in my liver, thereby speeding up my liver's metabolic rate.
Avatar n tn I also take Keppra but have never had any problems at all. I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!
Avatar m tn I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary. I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary. So I'm excited about the links here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/index.php http://www.needymeds.
Avatar n tn Hi all. I am really scared. I have been on Keppra for a little over a year. Initially I didn't notice any issues, because I already have some anxiety (undiagnosed), so what noticed I just brushed off as anxiety. But over the last nine months or so I have seen a change. I get angry more easily, and over really really stupid stuff. Once I flew into a temper tantrum because my roommate threw out something I had in the fridge. A year ago I would have moved on without a thought.
Avatar m tn I do have very sensitive skin. I get a bit of acne occassionally, but didn't have a big problem on Dilantin or Keppra. I recently switched over from Keppra to Lamictal. Lamictal is supposed to have rashes as a side effect. Ironically, my skin has never been smoother. Even the melasma I had on my forehead has disappeared. I didn't think I had a problem before taking it, but definitely notice my skin looks nicer now. Good luck. There has to be something else you can try.
12281015 tn?1424438278 I am also taking 2000mgs. of Keppra a day because I have an inoperable cavernous angioma bordering my right temporal and parietal lobes and it keeps seizures at bay, but I feel like I'm going to have one all the time now...that askew vision and trembling and olfactory auras. I always smell something burning and it's all too much. I'm afraid I'm going to die from this but I don't want to go to a hospital where they'll just tell me the same thing my pain doc told me...
