Common Questions and Answers about Keppra side effects seizure

keppra

Avatar f tn So may I know Oxetol 300 is a good and recommended medicine to treat partial-seizure and these side affects are common. She is getting fear like symptoms sometimes. So all these are normal side affects and it will get right after some days taking or the body become ready to accept Oxetol ? And final question, is this partial seizure can be cured completely ? what else we need to do improve the treatment. Took MRI scan and nothing found other than Sinus. Blood levels are fine.
502693 tn?1249151446 I was wondering if anyone is using keppra and the side effects, or any knowledge of keppra would be usefull, as my doctor is adding keppra to my epilm medication. Thanks for all your help....
Avatar m tn its been 8 months since my mothers TBI- she had a seizure yesterday-she has been off keppra for 1 1/2 months-the side effects of keppra are aweful-they ask her questions and wonder why she is out of it and doesn't know her last name-(after they gave her keppra in the hospital) what can she take that is less evasive to her health and recovery??
Avatar f tn Hi there, the various side effects with keppra or levetiracetam are dizziness, irritability, tiredness, fatigue, severe allergic reactions, extreme dizziness, drowsiness, weakness or tiredness, memory loss, behavior changes like aggression, panic attacks, restlessness, new or worsening seizures etc. in the period immediately after a seizure attack, it could be the post ictal phase or confusion. Consult your neurologist for your evaluation and change of anti epileptic medication. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn side effects of Keppra seem to contradict what our goals for mom are....memory loss, mood changes, mental changes and vision changes among others. Is Keppra safe to use for this (it is not being used with any other seizure medication....just by itself)? We want to wean her off, but the doctor is wanting to keep her on it.
Avatar f tn I find it odd that you’re worried about side-effects from the anti-seizure med, but not worried about the side-effects of a Tramadol overdose, which is basically what you’re doing. You said not to suggest telling anyone, but, without support, I don’t know how you will possibly be able to end your addiction. Having someone to support you makes you accountable, and that would be a good thing in this case.
1596950 tn?1297352500 My 10 year old daughter has been on Keppra since she was 6. We honestly have been very lucky. She has been seizure free and have not noticed some of the symptoms that are being described with being on the Keppra. She does well in school. We are having a hard time deciding if when she makes a mistake on a test whether it is a honest 10 year old mistake or if it is caused by the keppra. She had a prolonged partial seizure when she was 6 but has been seizure free since being on the keppra.
Avatar n tn I had a seizure in my sleep Thursday night. I was perscribed 500mg Keppra twice daily. I took my first pill at 1:30 and felt high all night. I finally went to bed at 8pm without taking another and slept until 9:30am!!! I have a 2 year old. I have no idea how long she was awake and waiting for me. I am afraid to take another dose. I can't sleep like that. Is this a side effect of the medicine? Or still fatigue from actually having a seizure?
5700140 tn?1372651764 Hello, Lamictal causes serious withdrawal reactions. These withdrawal effects are more severe compared to side effects. The common symptoms seen with withdrawal are moodiness, lethargy, headaches, tingling, suicidal tendencies etc.Lamictral should not be stopped abruptly it should be done slowly. It is suggested to report these symptoms to your doctor. If the symptoms are severe or persistent you may need emergency medical help. Keep me posted. Take care and regards!
2030686 tn?1351688548 This is not exactly related to your question but there are a few anticonvulsants contraindicated with Incivek. Mostly the 1st generation ones (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin). I have been noticing Levetiracetam (Keppra) seems to be prescribed as a viable alternative given there is no CYP450 activity. ____________________ Keppra/Riba: You might want to ask your Neuro about the side effects of the Keppra.
Avatar n tn I am so scared of him taking a seizure, does anyone know if the side effects will get better with a smaller dose? that is what my plan is rite now for him to lower the dose and see if his mental health gets better, ANY SUGGESTIONS would greatly help me as i can relate with the doctor. this is all so new to me and my son and i am so very lost, not to mention my son...…...I do not want to add medicine to a medicine that is making his mind mush.
Avatar n tn He has been on Keppra for about 2 years now. He's tolerating it well with no problems. I'm not sure for how long since he has other medical issues and this is just for maintenance to prevent seizures.
398501 tn?1334702273 Since Keppra he has been seizure free(16 Months now) In relation to his side effects tiredness seems to be the main one, he also gets mild anxiety which only started since he started taking Keppra. Compared to other medications the side effects are not bad. The most common side effects generally are: Sleepiness. Dizziness and unsteadiness. Weakness. Mild agitation, anxiety, or depression. But none of these are severe..
Avatar m tn Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it. Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide and felbamate, along with phenobarbital, are all tried and true when it comes to treating idiopathic epilepsy.
Avatar f tn Having a single episode of seizure starves your brain with oxygen and much needed nutrients and can have a transient as well as a lasting impact and I understand your doctors giving you these battery of drugs. However, these side effects that you are experiencing may indeed be from Keppra and I suggest that you discuss with your doctors regarding adjusting the dose or tapering the drug. I hope you and your doctors can find the right balance for your medications.
Avatar f tn I was back on several different meds, but the side effects were worse than having a seizure, and after being seizure free for 2 years, was back off the meds. A few months ago I had another seizure...scheduled an appt with my Dr, and the day before I had another. Though at least this time I stayed conscious. I had another mri done and another eeg. eeg was normal, but this time they told me that I also have a cavernous angioma.
Avatar f tn all the things that you mention seem to be side effects of keppra. mood issues can definately attributed to it. alot of antiepileptics can also cause concentration issues which could be a cause of the inabilty to remember things.
Avatar f tn So after staying overnight and at the vet the next day he came home and has been on Keppra and phenobarbital. 500mg 2x a day Keppra and 60mg 2x a day pheno. He has the side effects which are lessening but hasn't been as bad as I read could be. He is very responsive and is pretty much himself besides the side effects(weak legs, tired). It's been 6 days and no seizures so far. Will be going to vet in a week for check up and blood test again. I am so on edge..
479255 tn?1208116148 t think a shrink is in order, either! The most common side effects of Keppra are behavioral (irritability, aggressiveness, etc.) My son is on Keppra (he's only 30 lbs, and he takes 1200mg/day), and it's definitely caused some awful behaviors, so we're titrating Lamictal in hopes of weaning the Keppra eventually. His neurologist labeled his "psychotic behaviors" Keppra-related (he has pica and ate a lightbulb), and I completely believe him.
Avatar f tn we discontinued tegretol because of these unbearable side effects, we tried many more meds until we found keppra, which has been a blessing! Seizure control and no adverse side effects! My point is birdy, there are many other meds out there, if you aren't happy with the way you are feeling on your current meds talk to your dr about trying something different, and if your dr doesn't want to help you-find one that will.
233622 tn?1279334905 ve been on trileptal, topomax, lamotrigene, keppra, gabapentin(neurontin) and lyrica. Side effects made me stop the first three, a suspected side effect stopped me from taking the keppra, though we know now that it wasn't the med (my facial sensory stuff), I have only been given the last two for nerve pain. My neuro put me on gabapentin (neurontin), to work on my seizures, and the rib pain (which was the first neuropathic pain my gp recognized).
Avatar f tn The Keppra will do nothing to speed up clot recovery and resolution, and this is just to prevent any seizure that may arise from the injury. The clot resolution may only take 4-6 weeks to resolve, however, the full recovery of functions and rehabilitation may take more time (may be 3 months or more). It is best that he also undergo formal rehabilitation to speed up the recovery process. Regards and God bless.
Avatar f tn 1000mlg's of Keppra a day is actually not very much, but in your case the side effects are putting you down. Adderall can help with you being tired all the time, but it also has side effects that can be troubling. It can be habit forming and lead to dependence, also in some cases cause seizures. I personally would ask your doctor if you could be put on different type of seizure med that will not make you as tired, but that is just my two cents.
Avatar n tn If you do some research you will find that one of the side effects of Keppra is irritability. Things will even out as he gets used to the med but if this is a problem I know it will continue to be a problem. My son still gets cranky from this med. I also know that a seizure can cause them to be a little cranky too. Hope this helps a little. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!!
Avatar m tn issue with dilantin is the long term side effects....causes teeth problems GI issues and a list of others.......best of luck and If I can please let me know I will ghive the advice from my own personal experiences if they seem to meet what you are saying....
Avatar m tn I had heard about the dog flu shot and read the blogs on it. I asked about it and they said no side effects so I said go ahead. That night severe diarrhea ....thought ok a reaction. Next day and for two weeks total loss of appetite then A major seizure while she and I were walking. I never saw anything like it and thought she was dying. Took to vet they gave her shot of Valium and brought her home. 7 hours later second seizure.
559697 tn?1243286385 Hello there, A complete history about his seizures and medical examination are very important in determining the accurate cause of your son’s problems. The common side effects of Keppra XR are sleepiness, dizziness, weakness etc.Very rarely few people may experience aggression, agitation, anxiety on this drug. There may be problems with muscle coordination while on this drug. Your son seems to be in a very difficult situation. I will advise you to consult his neurologist.
